Something I noticed when I was comparing the two versions in translation of Chapter 1 of Apocalypse.

I kept thinking this panel looked different, so here’s a comparison. The first one is in the chapter translated by Nakimov Scanslation, the second is Problematic Scans. Nakimov is the newest one.

Was this a redrawing result, or just a difference in quality? I like both. One is far more detailed on the face, giving him an air of shadowy arrogance while the other lets you see his eye more. The newer one has shading in completely different areas and slightly different lineart. This is just an observation by me, nothing wrong with either version.

I also noticed that these two panels of Cú are pretty different. Subtle, but noticeable. The collar of his outfit is white, resembling bandages, and his eyes have less detail, as does his hair and skin overall. In the English, the collar is gold, his eyes have more depth and highlighting, and there’s more shading to his skin, hair, and cloak. Was this the author having a revised version???

Also, MAJOR SPOILERS FOR AOTG CHAPTER FOUR.

I refuse to believe Wukong is losing his round. Cú won against Ra, which I’m not surprised happened. However, I don’t think Cú can hold a candle to my Wukong. I love you Cú sweetness but I don’t think you can win 🤣🤣

Sun has layers of immortality and is so fucking op it’s insanity. Cú just can’t win, at least in my own opinion. Something interesting though is how Sun appeared to be surprised when we first got a glimpse of just how fast Cú can be. Was this genuine surprise from him being taken aback, or Sun being worried that he underestimated him??? I doubt Sun is afraid of a demigod.

However, this makes me wonder just *how* they’ll be fighting. We haven’t seen a glimpse of Sun’s abilities yet, but his round is starting next month after Cú’s having just wrapped up this month. Obviously his staff will play a role, but there’s no way to know how accurate he is to Journey to the West or mythology in general. I’m really hoping he has a feral monkey form and doesn’t just stay in human form.

Cú against Ra showed a *sliver* of his berserk energy, with his skin, hair, and nails growing darker. He got more muscular and appeared a bit taller. This is barely the full extent of his powers, but like I said, even with his one shot Gáe Bolg, I don’t think it’s nearly enough for him to win. He’s obviously main character energy and authors fave, but it’s been hinted at by Zeus that if he proves himself against Ra, he will be given his “due reward”. I’m pretty sure this is foreshadowing that Cú somehow makes it far enough to get some kind of reward, but I find that hard to believe. Just a theory, a game theory.

ALRIIIIIIGHT ANOTHER RANT

This is the official cover for Apocalypse Volume One

Pros: the shading is of course peak. The artist is pretty good at drawing muscles and shading the skin. Cú’s outfit really shines here. Cú really just looks feral and I like seeing him in color detail. The detail in Ra’s gold is good. Dazzling ✨. The highlights in Morrigan’s claws are amazing. She’s really shining and sleek, very pretty. Indra is hot as ever.

Cons: Zeus looks like a baby bird excited to see a worm 🪱. Ew. He looks inbred (so just Greek). Ra looks so fucking goofy. Wukong just looks so out of place. He’s drawn in such a manner he almost looks like he’s from a completely different manga or universe. He just looks so… off. Like dude looks so weirdly drawn it’s like he was copied and pasted from an early 2000s yaoi. He looks more like a Shaman King character, and I hate how weird he looks on this cover.
