The Cracks In The Sidewalk
Basic Information:
The Cracks In The Sidewalk is a post-apocalyptic story about hope, grief, and triumph, even in the harshest of times. Three years after society collapsed, humanity has just begun to pick up the pieces. Still, belief is a hard thing to hold onto, even when the signs are there.

Important Groups:
Laissez –
A cobbled-together group of anyone in the nearby vicinity, no matter where you come from or what you’re capable of. For this reason, Laissez tends to have a bunch of Kidds running around, especially orphans. Laissez resides in the ruins of what was once a giant mall. Each store has morphed into various living corners or workplaces. Sometimes the Kidds go to the arcade to see if they can get one more machine to begin working again.
Rigorus –
A group of cannibals. They are vital to the new ecosystem that this apocalypse has created, making sure the bodies don’t pile up. Those most sensible join the cannibals. Rigorus is well known for its very talented Cookes and the fruits and vegetables grown in the atrium where they reside, providing a convenient trade for all.
The Ashlanders –
Less of a functional group, and more of a title. Ashlanders have become synonymous with the lonely survivor. Created from the ashes of those abandoned by a long-dead society, the ashlanders wander the wastelands, stealing from other groups.

Named Characters:
Aurora “Rory” Smith –
The protagonist. Laissez’s blacksmith. Rory is a pessimist through and through. She is fully aware of the genre in which she exists. Thus, she treats her life accordingly. All post-apocalypse stories end in tragedy, right? Her life is just a commentary on the world. She is incredibly non-confrontational to the point where she is cold and distant at first glance.
Kit Healer –
The deuteragonist. Kit is the medic of Laissez. She is Rory’s foil in every sense of the term. She is an unwavering optimist. She always believes things will improve, even if it takes time, even if it's hard. She will wait however long she needs. She’s loud and vibrant and wild. She cares deeply and unapologetically for all things. Despite this, she can be relatively quick to anger and annoy, especially when it comes to rowdy patients.
Yosef Kidd –
One of many Kidds. Yosef acts incredibly mature for his age as a coping mechanism. Yosef is a beginner artist, trying his best to use his art to express his feelings about the world around him. He draws in the dirt and with natural chalk most of the time. He despises the fact that his role in this remnant of society is the fact that he is a child and is desperate to prove himself to those around him.
Catherine Tech –
Laissez’s sole technician. Having run away from home at a young age, Catherine is a nomad at heart. She doesn’t tend to stick around the mall most of the time. Every time she returns, it's with a pile of supplies in his hands. Catherine adores learning in whatever way she can. Whenever she isn’t at Laissez, it can be safe to assume she is in the ruins of some library to see if there are books available for themselves and for the Kidds.
Arielle King –
The defacto Leader of Rigorus. She would absolutely eat a raw human if she could. Arielle obsesses over consent, constantly making sure that the corpses Rigorus receives had consented to be eaten posthumously.
Tanner Cooke –
Rigorus’ head chef. They are stern and no-nonsense. They are the type of person to jokingly tell their friends to kill themselves in the most serious tone in existence. They are a really picky eater. Despite being a cannibal, they will only eat certain parts of the meat. They hate most available foods with a burning passion.
Zephon Trainer –
One of the residents of Rigorus. He isn’t a cannibal. The only reason he is part of Rigorus is because he’s romantically dating Arielle and platonically dating Tanner. Zephon used to be a professor at a university. When the apocalypse came, he refused to abandon his pets as so many others had. Through trial and error, he managed to make it work. He trained his cat to never leave his side unless he commanded him to, and trained his dog to be able to sniff for food.
Andrew Adams –
An ashlander. They are Catherine’s identical twin sibling. Stuck growing up in an environment that despised them without their sibling, Andrew grew resentful. Rejected by the society of old, they wander the wastelands without someone to rely on. They steal and pillage from other survivors without a care in the world.
