the rituals are a mean, a gateway, but not the end (not only for religious purposes, in life in general). just like with role models. what one should seek is what the role model sought, and not merely, blindly, imitate him / her.

you're right! should have included that part.. religious rituals are often practical rituals to help us in our everyday lives, cultivate a habit for a lifestyle that is optimal for spiritual fulfillment. & yes.. you put it succinctly -- they should not be treated as ends in themselves. unfortunately we live in a capitalistic, utilitarian society. even religion becomes a transactional thing.

unfollow people ! it’s the best cure :)

The thing is it's not even coming from people I follow haha! i just see them get dragged in into arguments with basic people I don't follow but who still find a way on my dash because of those arguments which leads me to witness their basicness... so I can't escape haha. Seriously, in the last 3/4 days, I've seen several arguments with stupid people on my dash. I don't know if it's that time of the year that is open season for basic people you don't even follow to spring into your dashboards or something else. Sigh. Hopefully it'll pass. :)

Damn it, Tony. This is my attempt at redemption for never responding to tagged things. P.S. Sorry.

Questions:

1) What are you freaking out about? A thing that I can't talk about right now, but I promise it's worthy of freak out. It's a positive thing, but I'm nervous because it's the sort of thing one gets nervous about.

2) When are you visiting me? When the last snows melt in the foothills of Appalachia and/or there is a bluegrass festival between West Virginia and Ohio.

3) Last book you read/what are you reading? One Hundred Years of Solitude because I read it in too fragmented of a fashion last time around.

4) Favorite movie of this year? I don't remember what movies came out this year and I saw next to none. Actually, I saw Lincoln and that was it. It hasn't been a movie year for me.

5) What has changed most for/about you during the last year or two? In the past two years I have: graduated from college, worked like a mad woman in areas totally outside of my competencies, lived in a couple of states, have become much better and cooking and baking and have learned to speak a little less.

6) Three places you want to visit. In n Out Burger, Uzbekistan and Mecca.

7) What do you usually blog about? Illuminated manuscripts, anecdotes, baseless observations and news stories I find to be of interest.

8) Why do bad things happen to good people? I ask that question a lot. I wish I knew. I think it's just out of our hands and far beyond the scope of human knowledge.

9) Favorite author? Impossible question, sadist.

10)  HOW PRETTY DO YOU LOOK RIGHT NOW? Not very. I just took a bath so I'm really pruney, my hair is damp and I'm wearing a bathrobe covered in a strawberry motif. Not good. There's always tomorrow, however.

11) Favorite song right now? Once again, sadist.
