After a stressful day full of early awakenings, delayed flights, and nearly missed connections, Patrick is finally home.

It's just past one in the morning, approximately 5 hours later than he was scheduled to arrive, and he's exhausted. Today (or yesterday, now), has been a chain of one problem after another. And all day, the only thing Patrick could focus on is how badly he wanted to be back with his husband. They've been apart for a week, the longest time since they've been married, and Patrick needs to be in David's arms again, needs to hear his laugh and see his beautiful smile and smell his sandalwood bodywash and citrus shampoo.

He unlocks the door with a soft click, wincing at the noise. David is most definitely asleep by now, and he doesn't want to wake him. Carefully, Patrick steps inside, suitcase rolling behind him, then closes the door with a gentle thud. He toes his shoes off and puts his jacket on the coat rack. It's dark all around him aside from a floor lamp by the window. At first, Patrick assumes David left it on for him so he wouldn't have to stumble through the dark when he got home, but then Patrick notices a familiar outline on the sofa.

David is curled into the corner of the sofa, neck listing backward and to the side against the cushion. His black hair is wild and splayed out every which way. One hand twitches against the armrest, and his other hand rests on his lap. His body rises and falls with every deep breath which are accompanied by soft snores. A screensaver bounces across the TV screen, signaling an extended length of inactivity.

David waited up for him. Feelings of affection and fondness and love for this wonderful man, this man who he's so lucky to call his husband, flood him all at once.

Patrick can't just leave him here to sleep. Last time they fell asleep on the couch, David complained endlessly about a horrible crick in his neck and pain in his back for the next few days, and Patrick teasingly called him old, much to David's indignation. But he also doesn't want to wake David when he's sleeping so peacefully.

Slowly, Patrick crouches down and, ignoring the weariness of his body, places an arm behind David's shoulders and another under his knees, then lifts. It's a little harder to hold someone who is so boneless, but he manages.

David rouses a bit, snuffling against Patrick's shoulder and body shifting slightly. "...'trick?" he mumbles, eyes cracking open into slits.

"Shh, go back to sleep," Patrick murmurs. "I've got you."

Still half asleep, David hums and reaches a hand to clutch loosely at Patrick's shirt. "Missed you."

"I missed you too, David."

Patrick carries David up to their bedroom, careful not to jostle him too much. He places a barely awake David onto his side of the bed, then goes to get changed, but David holds onto his hand.

"Don't go," David whispers, eyes closed again.

The desire to be surrounded by David again wins out against a shower or changing clothes. David will always win out.

"I'm here. I'm not going anywhere," Patrick says. He sheds his button-down, leaving him in his white under shirt, and kicks off his pants and socks. Then, he climbs in right beside David, who snuggles up to him, throwing an arm around Patrick's middle before promptly falling asleep.

Patrick smiles, reaching to brush a strand of hair off David's face. He kisses David's head, then tucks him in closer. 

The last thought he has before succumbing to sleep is how good it feels to be home.

okay, i gotta ask... how did you do that sick ass glitchy thing in your hill house edit?

i've tried a lot of different glitching techniques but for that one i basically did the same thing as nik explains here! the only real difference is i did my glitch in the middle of my main gif (nell/arthur dancing) and my second gif (nell dancing alone) was super short like 5 frames bc i wanted it to be quick and spooky alsjndk
