Since it’s Miguel’s birthday I’m posting the next chapter of EGP (Emergency Girlfriend Program). Enjoy!
Chp 8 excerpt:
“I’m doing the wedding gig.”
Peter turned off the car. “MJ, he hasn’t asked.”
”I’m not leaving him to face that bullshit on his own.”
“He’s got his brother and that cousin of his.”
”But he needs someone outside of the family to do and say things that the others are too scared to do.”
”Red, you picked a fight with his ex when he was prepared to leave.”
”She’s awful, Peter. Ugh, you should have seen her. Acting all sweet and innocent and so fucking haughty. Such a typical white girl routine.”
”MJ, you are a white girl.”
“I’m not a rich bitch white girl.”
Peter wanted to sigh and laugh at the same time. He settled on a shake of his head. ”Ok, I’ll give you that.” He tapped his finger on the steering wheel. He should be driving. But he wanted to make sure he was making eye contact with her for this conversation. “You know, people tend to find their special someone at occasions like weddings. What if your presence ruins that for Miguel, hm?”

Ok chapter 6 of Emergency Girlfriend Program (fake dating au, rosefang but poly endgame) is now up!
Excerpt (MJ goes by Rose as Mig’s fake gf):
”I’m the charming brother!” Gabri had a big ol’ smile as he hugged and kissed Rose’s cheeks. “Welcome! Miggy hasn’t brought someone to one of these things in - a while, let’s just say that.”
There was a chuckle in his earbud from Peter. “Miggy?”
Por dios. He was going to have to remember to threaten Peter not to use that nickname. Then again, the man seemed to be into punishment. It might give Peter mixed signals. But that would have to wait.
”Thank you Gabriel.”
”Oh please, Gabri or Gabe. My full name makes me feel like I’m about to be spanked for something. Or jury duty.”
Rose laughed. Gabriel put his arm along her upper back, not bothered by the fact that he was pushing Miguel aside.
”Gabri,” Miguel warned.
”I’m just getting your date a drink. You can go find your seats. Food should be coming out soon.”

Come a Little Closer related: I found these comic pages of Mary Jane Watson and Miguel O’Hara of their childhood environments. I’m hoping to address MJ’s in CaLC more since I’ve covered Miguel’s (and this fic is RoseFang focused but poly). So I thought I’d go ahead and share here what I’m looking at when we get there.
So you got MJ who had an older sibling and then Miguel who is the older sibling trying to comfort the younger (Gabriel). I just think that’s interesting, in terms of how Miguel and MJ’s dynamics are in the story and could be in future works. I imagine what Miguel and MJ knows about the other’s childhoods came from Peter (and also Lyla in Miguel’s case but that would be limited).

Excerpt:
In the afternoon, Miguel went to the mall where they agreed to meet.
He looked around the seating area, looking for Mary Jane. He spotted Peter in a pale pink button up first. He couldn’t hide the grimace from his face apparently. Peter’s smile waned and went flat.
“Well don’t be too excited to see me.”
“Sorry, I thought I was meeting Mary Jane.”
“Rose, actually,” came her voice from behind. “Might as well stay in character.”
Miguel turned around with a smoothie in her hands, the dark cherry wig on but the wavy hair up in a ponytail except for two wavy locks along her temples. She gave him a quick look over, making him internally glad he went with a casual navy blue polo and slacks to inadvertently match her baby blue sundress.
Peter noticed the blue tinted sunglasses were still on his face. “Even these lights are too bright?”
Miguel turned his head back to Peter. “Not really.” He lightly touched the side of his glasses. “These are more to keep people from gawking.”
Peter snorted. “I hate to be the one to tell you this, but your eyes are not the reason people stare at you.”
“My height, I know.”
“Seriously?” Peter jovially laughed. “You’re fricking handsome, man. You’d make bank as a supermodel.”
Miguel made a sound in the back of his throat, quickly looking away. MJ laughed behind her hand, using her other hand to pat Miguel’s shoulder.
“Alright, stop teasing him Peter.”
Peter shrugged. “Hey, I’m just telling him the truth.”

Miguel’s cell phone buzzed. He gratefully looked at it.
Mary Jane: Happy Tuesday, Miguel. Here’s the dark auburn wig I have. Let me know what you think.
He lifted up his amber tinted computer glasses to get a better look at the photo. He frowned at it then texted back immediately.
Miguel: that’s dark brown
MJ: There’s dark orange-red shine to it. Cell camera might not be picking up on it.
Miguel: ….(typing)
Miguel: ….(typing)
MJ: Wow, that bad huh? The only other “red” I have is this dark cherry red.
Miguel paused in texting to look at the second image. He pursed his lips and erased what he was initially texting and retyped.
Miguel: that’s maroon looking, edging on purple
