so I was late to the realization that Wedding Song and the Persephone and Hades exchange in Chant are the same goddamn song but my god now that I'm here I'm having some feelings about it.

The call and response mirroring, Persephone and Eurydice speaking their needs (times being as they are, hard and getting harder all the time / it isn't right, it ain't natural), that symmetry is JUICY but then Hades and Orpheus! both answering in metaphor, both failing in different-but-same ways. The way Orpheus points to the world as it could be and Hades to the world as it is but NEITHER of them ultimately listen to what their loves need, neither of them can hear what's right in front of them. Orpheus answers Eurydice with hope (but you can't eat hope, she needs pragmatism and stability); Hades answers Persephone with pragmatism and stability when what she needs is hope.

and then the way Chant feels structurally like a degradation of Wedding Song, something that has broken down over the years and worn itself into the same tired bitter track uuugh Anaïs Mitchell when I catch you

WAIT HOLD ON!!! The way Megumi has had so little agency his whole life...even with his "decision" to accept Gojo's help wasn't much of a decision as he would have ended up a sorcerer regardless (unless he and tsumiki wanted to brave it on the streets or something)

And then here comes Yuji that tells him that he can't just ask him to live. Because after everything he's been through he can't just force Megumi to face all that awfulness in the world. That's Megumi's decision to make.

All that he can do is try to smile, but even then he can't help but cry, and admit that he would be sad/lonely without him.

And so Megumi makes his choice.

Imagine, it’s a blazing day, the sun’s out shining and you can hear your neighbours’ kids splashing about in a pool from over your garden fence.

You’re sat, comfortably nestled into a garden chair, a glass in your hand. The liquid’s long since gone warm yet you still slowly sip at it. After another half hour of the day goes by, you set your glass down beside you, close your eyes and turn your head up to the sun.

However, instead of being met with its warm embrace your face is engulfed in a faint shadow. As your eye flutter open you see the face of F/o, the expression on their face fond enough to give the sun’s gentle warmth a run for its money. You cock your head to the side, “What are you doing?” You laugh out.

F/o widens their smile, accompanying the gesture with closed eyes, “Can I not wish to appreciate the sunshine?”

You let out another small chuckle, “The sun right behind you?” They mirror your laugh and placing a kiss to your forehead they coo,

“No, the one right infront of me”
