#The Sun card from the #Rosetta tarot.
And … My draw for today; 9 of Swords and the Princess of Wands. In an effort to make use of this troublesome, disturbing pair, I made very spicy lamb kebabs, nine of them. It appears to have assuaged the noble Lady Fortuna, for now at least, perhaps.
Tabula Mundi (Nox et Lux Edition) and The Rosetta Tarot, both by M. M. Meleen. Arcana Cases by Lady T. Susan Chang aka Tarotista, on Etsy.
Today's card ... The Empress.
Time for a bit of opening up, getting in touch with my feminine side, good day for some creative work, blending the external with the internal (oh yeah!), a nice card for today. I was going to do some writing later and then some Tarot work tonight ...
Rosetta Tarot
Tonight it's all about the Rosetta Tarot. A self published deck by Artist M.M. Meleen based on the Thoth Deck. The accompanying text is called The Book of Seshet. Both Deck and Book, plus Mini-Deck-in-a-tin, are published by ATU House and available online at www.rosettatarot.com
The Rosetta Tarot is even more special because at present it is still in it's First Edition and is hand numbered and signed by the author. Plus in both decks a special handwritten hieroglyph of one's name is included, again the hand is the author's. There is an immediacy rendered by the personalisation of a deck in this way. I'm immediately disposed to it.
I'm so over the bizarre computer collages, manga-style and indulgent (& cynical) marketing styled Tarot cards. The Rosetta Tarot is clearly the work of a human hand and is all the more special because of it. Perhaps it is because I come at it from the Crowley & Harris Thoth Deck but the unadulterated artwork of M.M. Meleen is a welcome relief. It adds some fun and surprises along the way. The Minor Arcana are by far the biggest surprise and complement and build-upon the original Crowley & Harris Cards.
I hope I don't do the accompanying book (The Book of Seshet) a disservice by describing it as a complete re-telling of the Thoth basics but in a very different way. The entire package is also available as an App (for Android and Apple) and well worth a look if you are curious about Tarot Apps or indeed the Deck and Book.
So far they've been giving me very in-yer-face readings, even more so than Thoth, but then I like blunt. It has rapidly become one of my favourite decks. I note with some not inconsiderable interest that M.M. Meleen is working on a new deck called tentatively Tarot-M. I'm not patient but it is a way off yet. Still it is something to look forward too.
Birth Cards 1
It's been awhile since I last posted. The past two months have been wonderful for my professional life but my body and home have suffered a little for it. Now that most of the projects have been completed, I have a little more time to get back to me.
I've decided it would be great to do a birth cards post for the next few weeks. I get to share my favourite decks/cards with you as well as learn about myself through these cards.
I begin with a deck that seduced me the moment I laid my eyes on it. The Rosetta Tarot by M.M.Meleen. The deck, and accompanying book The Book of Seshet, was released November 2011. I have been fortunate to have been able to correspond with M. She is an amazing artist and her knowledge and passion more than shine through this deck.
So, you've noticed my birth cards are the Fool and the Emperor. Death is my hidden/teacher card. At first glance these cards describe every person's journey. As the fool, you leap into life and as the emperor you endeavour to be the best at what you've chosen to do. When all is said and done, death steps in.
Taking it a step further. I'm the fool that leaps at every opportunity. I always try to explore every aspect of life, more the life that has been offered me. My career hasn't changed but what I've done with it has. I've also been very fortunate at being very good with what I do (Emperor) but every few years or so, I get restless and do something different with my career. I guess this is the Death aspect. I keep moving, I dare say, evolving.
More on my birth cards in the next post. Until then, go to the Rosetta Tarot's website. Buy it if you can. It's a self-published deck of only 777 copies.
