Canon EOS 250D | 20mm | 1/640s | f/5 | ISO 100 Taken on 23/02/2020. * Repost * Lying between the plain of Sibari and the mountains of Sila is the medieval town of Rossano, not far from Corigliano Calabro that I posted a few days ago. Rossano is a great historical town rich in Greek-Byzantine art and culture. The best way to explore it, I found, is losing yourself in its labyrinth of alleys and seeing what you can find on the other side. Here's a photo I took from one of these winding streets, leading up towards a fabulous viewpoint. There are a good deal of treasures and artefacts scattered around this Calabrian town, and the most valuable of which is kept in the 'Museo Diocesano e del Codex'. Why? Because that's where the Codex Purpureus Rossanensis is kept, which is a Greek illuminated gospel dating to the 6th century and containing 188 purple-dyed parchment folios. This historical artefact is so valuable that in 2015 it was inscribed as world heritage by UNESCO in the register 'Memory of the World'. The illustrations are absolutely fascinating and you can catch a glimpse of one of its pages if you click on the 'Museum' highlight folder on my Instagram page. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲: Rossano has an urban bus service every day of the week, though not as frequent on Sundays. The company is called 'IAS Autolinee' and tickets can be purchased on the bus or at a nearby tabacconist. ______________________________________ #rossano #rossanocalabro #ig_cosenza #calabriadaamare #shotz_of_calabria #turiscalabria #adventuretravel #bestintravel #southitaly #suditalia #italia #italy #ilikeitaly #ig_italia #ig_calabria #traveldiaries #travelphotography #travelblog #yallersitalia #yallerscalabria #vivoitalia #vivocalabria #finditliveit #living_destinations #lonelyplanet #rsa_rural #italy_illife #raw_italy #italy_hidden_gems #gramslayers (at Rossano) https://www.instagram.com/p/CEeo2GTI4BG/?igshid=y0qumiae6058
