TS3 - Rossmere Update #4

It's been a long time since I shared anything about Rossmere, and I'm sure you're all hungry for updates, so I'll get straight to the point:

I've reduced the size of even more lots, although I also had to add a few smaller ones (the largest was 30x30) to fill out certain areas. Rossmere currently has a total of 144 lots.

There will be plenty of empty lots of different sizes scattered throughout the world so you'll be able to place your own builds wherever you like.

Even though the builds you're seeing right now are incredibly detailed, don't worry: these are the original versions that you'll find on my Patreon, not the final versions that will remain in Rossmere. To improve performance, I'll be removing A LOT of objects later on, keeping only what's necessary to maintain functionality and the overall look of the world.

The builds you're about to see will be available for download on my Patreon. I'll be uploading them over the coming weeks.

I've decided to change the way I share progress on the project. From now on, I'll be posting smaller, more frequent updates instead of one massive update every once in a while. I'm sure many of you will appreciate that!

This is my favorite area in the entire city. It's heavily inspired by Brooklyn, and I absolutely love how it's turning out.

Honestly, I can't wait to spend entire summers here with my Sims. It feels like the perfect place for a family vacation!

As I mentioned before, Rossmere will feature two high schools. At first I tried using some of the game's original rabbitholes, but they just didn't fit, so I decided to build custom buildings for them instead.

Como os había comentado anteriormente, Rossmere contará con dos institutos. Al principio intenté utilizar algunas de las rabbitholes originales del juego, pero no terminaban de encajar, así que decidí hacerles edificios personalizados.

The rabbitholes are hidden in the basement, but they're fully accessible to Sims.

The idea is that the children of wealthy families and celebrities will attend the private school, while everyone else will go to the public one.

A little classist? Maybe. But honestly, I don't expect Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's kids to attend the neighborhood school I went to, so... I think a little realism never hurts.

The Langford Plaza Hotel. I think you're all pretty familiar with this one by now, so there's not much left to say.

I decided to integrate this bistro/spa rabbithole into this lot instead of leaving it as a standalone building. I think it fits much better here, close to the hotel and the tourist district.

Decidí integrar esta rabbithole de bistro y balneario en este solar en lugar de dejarla como una construcción independiente. Creo que encaja mucho mejor aquí, cerca del hotel y de toda la zona turística.

Oh yes. This is one of the big ones.

When I first started designing Rossmere, I knew I wanted a beachside amusement park inspired by Santa Monica Pier. And well... Here it is.

Cuando empecé a diseñar Rossmere tenía clarísimo que quería un parque de atracciones junto a la playa, inspirado en el muelle de Santa Monica. Y bueno… aquí está.

I'll be making a land version so you can place it on a flat lot, but keep in mind that it requires a 64x64 lot, so it probably won't fit into many worlds. That roller coaster isn't exactly small!

Haré una versión terrestre para que podáis utilizarla en solares planos, pero tened en cuenta que ocupa un solar de 64x64, así que no encajará en demasiados mundos. ¡Esa montaña rusa no es precisamente pequeña!

You might remember that the luxury penthouse district was originally made up of three of these EA buildings:

However, I ended up creating my own because those didn't quite match the vision I had for the area. Still, I really liked this particular building and hated the idea of getting rid of it completely. I think it fits much better here, so I've decided to keep it. It'll be a starter apartment.

TS3 - Rossmere Update #1

I’ve increased the number of ports to 5 to have more options; 3 felt too few, especially since 2 of them will already be in use.

Right now, the world has around 150 lots, as I had to add a few new ones after finishing and shaping certain areas.

I also switched the weather from Sunlit Tides to Roaring Heights, but I’d love to know if there’s a way to combine the lighting from the former with the water from the latter, because I’m still not entirely satisfied. I absolutely love the sunsets in Sunlit Tides, and I don’t want to give them up. So, if anyone knows how to fix this, I’d really appreciate it if you could share it with me.

Now, let’s see what else is new…

He incrementado el número de puertos a 5 para tener más opciones; 3 me parecían pocos, sobre todo teniendo en cuenta que 2 van a estar ocupados.

Actualmente el número de solares ronda los 150, ya que tuve que añadir algunos nuevos al terminar de modelar ciertas zonas.

También he cambiado la ambientación de Sunlit Tides por la de Roaring Heights, pero me encantaría saber si existe alguna manera de combinar la iluminación del primero con el agua del segundo, porque todavía no estoy del todo conforme. Me fascinan los atardeceres de Sunlit Tides y no quiero renunciar a ellos. Así que, si alguien sabe cómo solucionarlo, le agradecería mucho que lo compartiera conmigo.

This is one of the areas that was still unfinished: I lowered the terrain a bit to place the ports and added five new lots, including the viewpoint at the end of the boardwalk that crosses the sea.

Esta es una de las zonas que quedaban sin terminar: he rebajado un poco el terreno para poder colocar los puertos y he añadido cinco nuevos solares, incluyendo el mirador al final de la pasarela que cruza el mar.

This is another area I still needed to finish: I added three new lots and, although as you can see I’ve already shaped the terrain, I still need to add vegetation in some parts.

Esta es otra zona que me faltaba por terminar: aquí he añadido tres nuevos solares y, aunque como podéis ver ya he modelado el terreno, todavía me falta agregar vegetación en algunas partes.

And even though I’ll be building 99% of the world myself, there are a couple of other creators whose work I just can’t ignore; one of them is this floating dance club:

This beauty is the work of Ray_Sims, so all credit goes to him. All I did was replace all the custom content with in-game items and tweak the layout a bit. You can find the original build on TSR as The Floating Fortress.

Some time ago, while looking for a mansion for one of my saves, I came across this one by Bert's Simmer on YouTube and adapted it to accommodate a band of 4 Sims. Now it will have its well-deserved place in the hills of Rossmere, because it’s AMAZING!

I love how it’s turning out, but I’m a bit worried about overloading it and that so much detail might affect performance later on. What do you guys think?

TS3 - Rossmere (WIP)

So yeah, this is what I’ve been working on over the past month.

Así que sí, esto es en lo que he estado trabajando el último mes.

The CAW tool is honestly a bit of a mess in some aspects, but at the same time, it’s incredibly fascinating how much you can create with it. I’ve edited other worlds before, but I had never built one completely from scratch. It’s a massive time sink and takes a lot of effort—but trust me, it’s 100% worth it.

La herramienta CAW es un desastre en algunos aspectos, pero también es absolutamente fascinante todo lo que se puede llegar a crear con ella. Ya había editado otros mundos antes, aunque nunca había hecho uno desde cero, y la verdad es que exige muchísimo esfuerzo y tiempo… pero vale completamente la pena.

Now, have I mentioned how much I hate terrain sculpting? No? Well, here it goes: I HATE IT. It’s by far the most tedious part of the entire process. But hey, that’s finally done—and now I get to dive into my favorite part: building.

I genuinely thought I’d never get here. 😭

Ahora bien, ¿os he dicho ya lo mucho que odio modelar el terreno? ¿No? Pues ahí va: LO DETESTO. Sin duda, es la parte más tediosa de todo el proceso. Por suerte, ya está hecho, y ahora empieza mi parte favorita: construir.

Rossmere is beautiful, isn’t it? I know it’s hard to imagine it bustling with life, skyscrapers towering over the streets, Sims everywhere... when right now it all looks so empty. But I promise you, in my head, it’s already amazing.

Come on, have a little faith—when have I ever let you down?

Rossmere es maravillosa, ¿a que sí? Sé que cuesta imaginarla llena de vida, con rascacielos y Sims por todas partes cuando ahora mismo está tan vacía, pero os prometo que en mi cabeza ya es alucinante.

And yes, just to confirm what you’ve probably already guessed: it’s a city. My main inspiration comes from parts of Los Angeles (mostly), with touches of Brooklyn and Miami here and there. But just to be clear: I’m not trying to recreate any of them. I’m simply taking the elements I love most and blending them into a world that feels uniquely mine.

Y aunque probablemente ya lo habíais adivinado, lo confirmo por si acaso: sí, es una ciudad. Me estoy inspirando sobre todo en zonas de Los Ángeles, con toques de Brooklyn y Miami. Pero ojo: no estoy intentando replicarlas, solo tomar lo que más me gusta de cada una y juntarlo en un mundo que encaje con mis gustos y preferencias.

Since I know you're curious for more details, here’s a little preview:

Currently, the world uses the Sunlit Tides lighting, but the water is too clear and I’m not completely happy with it, so I’ll probably change it. Roaring Heights might be an option—it has the kind of tone I’ve always wanted and suits the style of this city much better.

As always, I’m not using any CC—but I will be using some Store content and a couple of mods. If you’re familiar with my previous builds, you can probably guess which ones I mean. That said, I’m planning to add an amusement park this time around, so I’ll likely bring in a few new mods just for that.

I’ll be using every single expansion pack—no exceptions.

Rossmere will have three ports—none of them will include a houseboat with Sims living in it.

The water level is set above 30, so you’ll be able to place dive lots without any issues. I won’t be including any myself, though—it’s not something I’m personally interested in, and I like leaving that as something special for Isla Paradiso.

Right now, the world contains 140 lots—some of them will be left empty so you can add your own builds. I’ve also put a lot of work into routing to ensure performance stays smooth. I’ll try not to overload the builds for that same reason.

I plan to release both a populated and an unpopulated version, each available in both Spanish and English.

Actualmente, el mundo tiene implementada la iluminación de Sunlit Tides, pero el agua es demasiado clara y no termina de convencerme, así que probablemente la cambie. La de Roaring Heights podría ser una opción: su tono se acerca mucho más a lo que siempre he querido y encaja mejor con el estilo de esta ciudad.

Como siempre, nada de contenido personalizado, aunque sí usaré algunos objetos de la Store y un par de mods. Si me conocéis, ya os imagináis cuáles son, porque los he utilizado en muchas de mis construcciones anteriores. Aun así, como quiero hacer un parque de atracciones, probablemente añada algunos nuevos a la lista.

Voy a utilizar todas las expansiones del juego, sin excepción.

Habrá tres puertos, pero ninguna casa flotante habitada.

He establecido el nivel del agua sobre 30, así que podréis colocar solares para hacer submarinismo sin problema. Yo no incluiré ninguno porque, sinceramente, no es algo que me interese demasiado; me gusta que siga siendo algo exclusivo de Isla Paradiso.

Actualmente, el mundo tiene 140 solares (varios estarán vacíos para que podáis colocar vuestras propias construcciones). He trabajado mucho el tema del enrutamiento para que el rendimiento no se vea afectado, y también intentaré no sobrecargar demasiado los solares por el mismo motivo.

Habrá una versión poblada y otra sin poblar, y ambas estarán disponibles en español e inglés.

From now on, I’ll be sharing all my progress with you so you can keep me company on this journey. I skipped over the terrain sculpting and layout process because, well… it wasn’t anything worth showing off. And honestly? You would’ve gotten tired of watching me rework it again and again. The final version looks nothing like the first. The idea was always there, and so was the vision—but I’ve refined it a lot over the past few weeks.

TS3 - Rossmere Update #3

Espero que lo estéis pasando genial estas navidades y que estéis recibiendo un montón de regalos chulísimos.

I’m sorry for being so absent lately, but right now I have a lot going on in real life and my priorities are a bit far from here. Still, today I managed to find some time to stop by and share the current state of Rossmere with you.

Siento haber estado tan ausente últimamente, pero ahora mismo tengo demasiadas cosas sucediendo en la vida real y mis prioridades están bastante lejos de aquí. Aun así, hoy he podido sacar un ratito para pasarme por aquí y compartir con vosotros el estado actual de Rossmere.

So, without further ado, let’s take a look at what I’ve been working on.

One of the changes that, to me, makes a huge difference is this:

Uno de los cambios que, para mí, marca una gran diferencia es este:

I’ve finally managed to create a custom terrain paint using the same texture as the road sidewalks, so now everything blends together perfectly. You can’t imagine how satisfying it is to see everything in the same color.

Por fin he conseguido crear una pintura de terreno personalizada usando la misma textura que las aceras de las carreteras, así que ahora todo encaja a la perfección. No os imagináis la satisfacción que me produce ver que todo tiene el mismo color.

I’m sure many of you have already noticed it: I’ve slightly adjusted the layout of some areas of the city, and now everything looks much cleaner, more organized, and more harmonious.

Seguro que muchos ya os habréis dado cuenta: he ajustado un poco la distribución de algunas zonas de la ciudad y ahora todo se ve mucho más limpio, ordenado y armonioso.

I added some rocky details to the hills so the landscape wouldn’t look so flat, and I absolutely love how it turned out. I can finally say I’m happy with how it looks.

He añadido algo de roca a las colinas para que el paisaje no se viese tan plano, y me encanta el resultado. Por fin puedo decir que estoy conforme con su aspecto.

I’ve made another beach here because, guys, I’m sorry—but there’s never such a thing as too many beaches.

He hecho otra playa aquí porque, chicos, lo siento, pero nunca hay demasiadas playas.

I’ll never get tired of these views. EA didn’t do many things right—and this bridge is definitely one of them.

Nunca me cansaré de estas vistas. EA hizo pocas cosas bien, y este puente es una de ellas.

As for builds, considering that I barely turned on my computer in December and only managed to work on them on a few scattered days in November, I haven’t made much progress. Still, if I have to choose, I’d rather focus on quality over quantity.

En cuanto a construcciones, teniendo en cuenta que en diciembre prácticamente no he encendido el ordenador y que en noviembre solo pude dedicarle algunos días sueltos, no he avanzado demasiado. Aun así, puestos a escoger, prefiero calidad antes que cantidad.

This is Rossmere’s festival grounds.

Yes, there’s a clear inspiration from Central Park—and yes, I know, it’s amazing.

I haven’t named the park yet, but it’s made up of three lots: the festival grounds, a café rabbit hole, and a playground. The fountain area isn’t a lot itself; it’s just decorative.

Sí, hay una clara inspiración en Central Park, y sí, lo sé: es increíble.

Continuing with the tour, this area was in need of a grocery store, so I decided to place it on this lot to take advantage of its large size. Integrating it into the building wasn’t easy, but I really like how it turned out:

Looking back, adding a building on top of this spa and restaurant rabbit hole was a great idea. I think it was the perfect way to integrate it into the area.

Ahora, con perspectiva, añadir un edificio en la parte superior a esta madriguera de conejo de balneario y restaurante fue una gran idea. Creo que fue la forma perfecta de integrarla en la zona.

At this point, I assume most of you already know the Skyline residential complex, but just in case:

At first, I planned to build another rooftop club and restaurant, but The Eclipse is so impressive that I simply decided to place this one instead. Putting it right on the beachfront was absolutely the right call. Just look at those views!

En un principio tenía pensado hacer otro club con restaurante en la terraza, pero The Eclipse es tan impresionante que simplemente decidí colocar este. Ubicarlo en primera línea de playa ha sido todo un acierto. ¡Mirad esas vistas!

TS3 - Rossmere Update #2

When I first started this project, I told myself I should prioritize playability over looks. But then I got into it and completely lost myself in the process — you know me: I tend to get overly meticulous and decorate everything to excess. And that’s fine when it’s just a regular build, but not when it’s an entire world this big.

Cuando empecé este proyecto, me dije a mí misma que debía priorizar la jugabilidad por encima de la belleza. Pero después me puse a ello y me perdí por completo; ya me conocéis: tiendo a ser demasiado minuciosa y a decorarlo todo en exceso. Y eso está bien cuando se trata de una simple construcción, pero no cuando hablamos de un mundo tan grande como este.

Rossmere is beautiful, but I think we can all agree it’s better to have a world that may not look as stunning but runs smoothly instead.

Rossmere es preciosa, pero creo que todos estaremos de acuerdo en que es preferible que no sea tan bonita si eso significa que podremos jugar en ella con fluidez.

With that in mind, I’ve made some major changes:

I removed 10 lots, which forced me to readjust some areas and sacrifice others.

I also reduced the number of trees, streetlights, and other world objects to less than half.

También he reducido a menos de la mitad el número de árboles, farolas y demás objetos del mundo.

There’s not much I can do about the layout —after all, it’s a city— and leaving more space between lots would just look odd. But I can definitely try not to overload them as much from now on.

No puedo hacer mucho en cuanto a la distribución porque, al fin y al cabo, es una ciudad, y es imposible dejar más espacio entre los solares sin que quede extraño. Pero sí puedo evitar sobrecargarlos tanto a partir de ahora.

For those of you who have experience with CAW and have built worlds before, I’d really appreciate any tips or feedback — especially if you notice something that might hurt performance.

A quienes tengáis experiencia con la herramienta CAW y ya hayáis creado algún mundo, os agradecería muchísimo que compartieseis conmigo cualquier consejo o me señalarais si hay algo mal hecho o que pueda afectar gravemente al rendimiento.

Much to my dismay — because I truly hate doing it 😭— I also had to make a few terrain improvements. And although it was excruciating from start to finish, I think all the suffering was worth it once I saw the final result:

Personally, I love how both beaches and the lighthouse turned out; I can’t wait to visit them with my Sims in my saves.

As for actual builds, I haven’t been able to make much progress. The only new addition in this regard is Mochahaus, as some of you might have already seen.

En cuanto a construcciones como tal, no he podido avanzar mucho. La única novedad en este aspecto es Mochahaus, como algunos ya habréis visto.

Hi! The update is amazing, I can't wait until it's available! I know you said to give some ideas, so I wanted to know if you'd like to have some cul-de-sac neighborhoods in your world? I didn't know if that would effect performance or not, but thought it would be cute. Also, I've heard boat houses can cause lag. not 100% sure, but I just remember that being said years ago. Thanks, your work is amazing!

I love that kind of neighborhood, but unfortunately I can’t implement a true cul-de-sac at this point.

Even after removing many objects, reducing the size of several lots, and deleting around a dozen of them, I’m still concerned about performance, and adding more elements isn’t really an option.

That said, there are already a couple of areas that, while not exactly cul-de-sac neighborhoods, have a similar layout and feel.

This one near the cliffs will be a very high–class family neighborhood, possibly even home to a celebrity or two, with luxurious houses in a wide variety of styles. Take a close look — it screams money everywhere!

And this one, located along what looks like a dead-end road, will be home to lower-income families, with more suburban-style houses.

It’s not exactly what you had in mind, but I think you’ll like it once you see it finished.

Right now it’s hard to picture, because everything is still unfinished, but in my head it all makes sense.

As you can see, the areas are clearly designated and each one will have its own distinct style, so I’m confident everyone will be able to find a home in Rossmere for their Sims — no matter what they’re like.

In any case, thank you so much for taking the time to share your ideas with me. I really appreciate you wanting to contribute to the project.

And regarding houseboats, you’re absolutely right — they do cause a lot of lag. At first, my idea was to place one occupied houseboat and another one (a yacht-type one in the private cove) left empty, but after thinking about performance, I’ve decided not to place any for now.

Well… I haven’t completely ruled out the yacht yet. 🫣

Later on, when around 90% of the builds are done, I’ll reassess it and see whether adding it would be a good idea. If I don’t decorate it too much and keep it unoccupied, it shouldn’t cause any issues. Honestly, I’d love to be able to include it.

And the one that’s already placed is a dance club, so since it’s a community lot, Sims shouldn’t move it to another port autonomously. If they do, simply locking the door so they can’t access the helm is enough to solve the issue.

Still, thank you so much for the warning.

I think I may have rambled a bit too much — whenever I talk about Rossmere, I just can’t help myself. I’m way too excited about this project.

Yes! Rossmere is still a work in progress, and I won't be releasing it until it's 100% finished and thoroughly tested.

I still have a lot left to build, a few areas I'd like to polish, all the Sims to create (although I already have a few households done!), the NPCs, street addresses, and plenty of other technical things that aren't quite as exciting... 😆

Once all of that is finished, I'd also like to run a small closed playtest with a carefully selected group of people to check performance, compatibility, routing, bugs, and anything else that might need tweaking before the official release.

If everything goes according to plan, I think I could have it ready sometime this year. That said, I don't want to commit to a specific release date until it's much further along.
