Error: After compositing and rendering out the video through After Effects I realised that there was still white not fully rota-scoped. Unfortunately, in the programme it wouldn’t show this so I could find where to rota-scope it out so we had to leave it in there.
Rotascope of Baines!
Sara Tutorial 2: After Effects Rotascoping
In this tutorial with Sara we were shown how to do Rotascoping in After Effects. Rotascoping is where you cut out a part of a moving image and apply it to a different background.
We were told to bring a HD video of someone/something moving that we thought would look good cut out. I did a movie of my friend Eleanor walking.
We were also showed a variety of videos that had used Rotascoping. It would appear that Franz Ferdinand are really into this technique as two of the videos we have been shown are music videos of theirs.
In this tutorial we used the pen tool on every other keyframe of the animation to outline what we wanted to show up. We added holds between keyframes to make the process a bit quicker than animating every keyframe. By copying and pasting the keyframes I created a bit of a loop. We then added colours to it, so it was similar to early iPod adverts.

I thought this tutorial was quite difficult because the Pen Tool on After Effects is rubbish compared to Illustrator, which is what I am used to using. However, I am really making an effort to try and understand After Effects this year.

1st Animaton
final animation piece for year 1 rotascoped piece. even though i feel it's lacking depth and doesn't run nearly as smooth as i would have liked, i put a lot of effort into the piece and the grade i got was beyond what i believe it deserves, however, getting an A in your first year is pretty impressive, so i'm not going to complain.
the piece is based upon a korean drama called 'white christmas' and the soundtrack is a cut from the first episode, the words are taken from the last entry of a boys diary, but are read more as a suicide note, accusing each cast member of a different crime towards the boy that ended in his suicide.
