“A month ago I was not even a mutant and now I’m a fucking terrorist. This is going great.”
“I’ve been back in New York for a week and the city has already gone to shit. I did miss it, though.”
“ listen, i don’t make the rules. if you wanna know where our secret hideout is then you gotta pay up. i’ll take no less than forty bucks. ”
Sitting in the corner of the coffee shop for almost an hour now, Rei didn't care if her own drink was getting cold. She didn't even care if she was caught out of the hospital. Rei just wanted out and now her eyes were glued to the television mounted on the wall as the different footages about the same event continually played. All the newscast and everything were talking about what had happened. The same event that landed her in the hospital, which was the last place she wanted to be. With a few stitches and a broken leg, she was scared of what was happening. Despite being a mutant, she was one of those who hid who they really are - especially now when everyone was blaming the mutants for what happened. The register and now this. This was one of those days Reiko wished she was human.
Even without an explosion tearing her senses apart, Leah often found it difficult to function on a normal daily basis. Rubble was still falling around her and the collar of her letterman jacket was stained maroon from the head injury she had received in the initial blast. While she had been out with Sera, the young teenager still called out for her brother as she tried to make heads or tails out of the chaos she had become trapped in. She had left her phone in Sera's bag out of habit (she didn't like carrying things around with her outside of the tower) so had no access to those she would normally seek out in a crisis. "What --- What's going on?" she cried as she slowly managed to get to her feet. She then, from memory of what she had been taught at the academy, attempted to put out a nearby fire with her hydrokinetic powers -- somewhat failing to do so. "DAMMIT!"
Sera should have seen it coming. She knew there would always be people like her amidst the crowd of New York especially in a subway station, so why the hell did she not spot the one who caused the explosion? She had just gotten on the escalator to head down when it happened and while it didn’t kill her, it did knock her back. She sworn she could have felt the heat from the blast before her back hit the wall, collapsing onto the ground. “What just....” She trailed off as she saw the subway station in ablaze.
“So, hypothetically, if you were at a club by yourself and this really attractive guy started talking to you like you’ve been friends forever, and then he calls you a different name. And while you’re talking to him, you’re really drunk and even though it’s obvious that he’s mistaking you for someone else, he says he wants to go back to his place, clearly with the intention of hooking up. So, you can either the go back to his place and completely ignore the fact that someone else is in the club somewhere looking for this guy, or you could tell him he’s mistaken and miss the chance to hook up with a really attractive guy. What would you do?”
“Oh, shoot. That was an accident, I didn’t mean to spill my drink on you, I swear.” he looked around for a second before reaching for a napkin. “Here. That helps, right?”
