Fuck, I will take Korra level, hold hands without it getting joked about or slyly brushed off in a later scene, like. The wedding rings was promising, right up until Yuri adamantly denied it was anything romantic.
I feel like I’m losing my mind sometimes because I see everyone around me going WOW, GOOD HEALTHY GAY REPRESENTATION! AMAZING! and I’m just... okay, but??
Like I know, general rule, you shouldn’t require a character to out and scream I’M GAY in order to perceive them as such, but if you’re pitching the whole thing on the shoulders of gay rep, you gotta fucking follow through and while this sort of dancing around the subject with the understanding of how it will end is pretty standard for het romance, when it comes to LGBT stuff, it’s not as implicitly promised, the more common promise and delivery is ‘it won’t work out in the end’, so that’s the hot potato we’re all gripping here. The nature of the subject insists that it could go either way, so which way is it? We can’t really make that call until the last episode, but in the meantime, I’m so worried about the folks marching in expecting pure, good rep but getting only shipbait.
