a starter for @rotturn !
with the recent revelations, wendy decided to assume full responsibility for her brother's care. something she should've done the moment they had crashed in the wilderness. a decision for which the guilt had begun to gnaw at her insides. guilt, guilt, guilt. that feeling hung over the entire cabin following the first snow and jackie's demise whether any of them were willing to admit it or not.
with an unspoken hierarchy forming among the girls, tensions rising and morality ( and winter ) closing in, wendy felt more protective over her brother than ever. as of late, she'd spent most of her time perched beside ben like a leopard ready to pounce with her hands stuffed into her letterman jacket pockets in a futile attempt to stave off the cold. her pointed scowl from her usual spot was only reserved for misty but the tension between all the girls was palpable. how long before they all turned on someone else and left them out in the cold ?
“ hey ben. ” wendy murmured softly whilst lowering herself to sit beside him. it turned her stomach to see her brother this way, weakened and pale with a beard framing his face that aged him well beyond his years. “ hi. ” lips curve into a small smile as she fails to stop a chill from shaking her frame. “ are you okay ? are you cold ? i — i have an extra blanket if you want it. ”
