Another little piece of Americana gone. The Cherokee Trading Post in Budd Lake, New Jersey closed after 73 years in business. It is now a bedding and furniture store called Sweet Dreamzzz.

The SkyTop Motel in Dover, New Jersey. Opened in 1950. Demolished in 2016 to make room for a CVS. The SkyTop is actually the first motel I ever wrote about and a huge inspiration for this page. Here’s my original post about it.

The lost enclave of Cobb's Corner
Cobb's Corner was once the center of Parsippany's business, social, political, and religious life, and its location at the intersection of two busy roads made it the frequent destination for stage coach travelers and those moving goods through northern New Jersey. These photos, taken around 1850, depict two hotels that once existed on the site as well as the nearby Cobb Mansion.
Construction of the Boonton Reservoir and two interstate highways forever changed this quaint pastoral enclave, which is now a major thoroughfare traversed by 150,000 vehicles per day. Additional details about the history of Cobb's Corner, including its role as an iron manufacturer before the Revolutionary War can be found here.

Although I'd normally consider this a typical industrial NJ sunset, this was along a nicer stretch of route 46. Since PM2.5 particulates were high today, the sunlight was constrained by the mediocre air quality
