#FromTheSidelines On the last day of racing at the World Rowing Championships, the women's teams battled it out in a very tight, hard fought Women's 8 finals. The U.S. Women's 8 team was going into this race leading the international sports world with a level of team dominance and an 11 year winning streak not seen in any other team sport at the international level, with 11 consecutive world titles, including 3 consecutive Olympic gold medals. That unprecedented level of success was considered to be one of the greatest team dynasties in the history of sports. To keep the streak alive they'd have to beat a very tough field of teams: Romania and New Zealand (both favored in this race), Canada, Great Britain, and the Netherlands. The loud commands of each team's coxswains could barely be heard over the deafening roar of the crowds in the grandstands cheering for their country's athletes. It came down to the final stretch of water with Romania winning the gold (6:06.400), Canada the silver by a mere 0.18 of a second (6:07.090) and New Zealand the bronze (6:07.270). Team USA left it all out there on the water, giving it their all. They placed fourth in a time of (6:09.270). As one former U.S. Olympic rower told me afterwards, this is a young team with a lot of talent and determination, and with their competitive nature and desire to win, they will no doubt be back at the top of the medals stand soon. 📸 @cyndichamberssports ••• •• • #worldrowingchampionships #sculls #row #wrc2017 #rowinglife #rowingnews #rowingrelated #WeWelcomeTheWorld #rowing2k @worldrowingofficial @rp3rowingusa @row_360 @rowingrelated @rowingnews @just_rowing @wrch2017 @rowamerica (at 2017 World Rowing Championships)
