Happy 43 Birthday to Bridget Regan.
roxanne gilbert my beloved
Okay, so Danneel’s been robbing the wardrobe department for Roxy’s fits, no doubt...
ladies of Iron Man Comics: ROXANNE GILBERT
Roxanne Gilbert appears for the first time in issue #059 (v.1) where she finds out that her brother Gary is actually the aggressive political activist and supervillain Firebrand. Simon Gilbert, their father, was a business man and a violent and abusive man who tried to steal Stark Industries from Tony before getting killed in an incident while trying to destroy Iron Man. While Gary wants to get revenge for their father’s death, Roxanne doesn’t want to see more violence, saying that Simon Gilbert was never much of a father to them. Gary still convinces her to call Tony into a trap with the excuse that Roxanne now has inherited Gilbert’s SI’s stocks and that she wants none of it because it’s blood money. And so Firebrand kidnaps Tony and Pepper, hitting her sister Roxanne when she tries to stop him. She still saves the day, stopping her brother enough to give Iron Man the time to defeat him (and he is later arrested) even if she is injured. After a period of time spent in the hospital to heal from her burn wounds, Roxanne returns in #063 where Iron Man saves her again (from falling pieces of a building). But when Roxanne sees how the paparazzi start following Iron Man, she asks him to leave her alone and not make her part of his fame seeking need. Roxie strongly disapproves Tony's past as a weapon maker and his role in the Vietnam's war. She is a firm believer of non violent resistance and she is extremely corageous. When Eddie March (Tony's old friend and boxer) gets injured while helping Iron Man, Roxie reveals that Eddie had told her about his need to ask Tony to look for his brother. Without waiting for Tony's answer, Roxie immediately leaves for Vietnam on the mission. There she is taken prisoner in an underground city by Crimson Dynamo who wants revenge for Janice Cord's death. She saves herself and return to the USA (also, Eddie's brother is safe too).
Roxie meets Tony again at a charity party but when Tony is kidnapped, without lately telling her she is fine, she gets worried and mad at having been forgotten. It’s clear that Tony is too taken by his job (and she doesn’t know it, but he’s taken by being a superhero as well) and she decides to close with him. At one point, Kevin O’Brien’s brother try to use her to pin his brother’s death to Tony, but she refuses to get into petty revenges and she walks out of the comic and Tony’s life.
Roxie is firmly against violence and one of the first characters who talks to Tony about him using to build weapons and holds him accountable for that. It’s her influence that is quite important in Tony’s change from weapon producer to the promise to never produce weapons again (and yes, of course, the time these comics were written, but she is the first who brings the issue). She does not compromise for her belief. Roxie works in a food store but has a cospicous inheritance (which she uses to rebuild her store when it’s destroyed by a supervillain). Their relationship is never a real romantic relationship. It’s clear that there is something but they both have their lives to think of and they grow apart before they can get too close.
Roxy Gilbert returns in #297 to partecipate in a Welcome Home party for Tony at Stark Enterprise, after the man had had some medical difficulties.
Tony calls her 'lady adventurer extraordinaire'.
