“The booming voice of Roxas’ father pierced through his bedroom door, the disappointment clear as day when the nineteen year old elected to ignore the older of the two.
Heavy footsteps receded and Roxas rolled over, reaching for his trusty cigarette case. He flipped it open, cursed and noted the empty baggie in the metal case. Instead he pulled out a smoke lighting it and inhaling deeply before blowing out with a sigh.
Looks like he’d have to go out today after all.”

(SURPRISE!!! Page 1 of I honestly don’t know how many. This AU is a huge project that I’m so thrilled you’re all excited for! Stay tuned and feel free to send me and questions or comments regarding the story/ characters!)
(I’m thinking weekly updates since my brain literally cannot take so many lines in one day 🥴)
Leha’s nose scrunched up, the smell waking her from her slumber. “Vinny! Get up!” She reached over and smacked him across the gut, making him sit up with a grunt.
“What do you want woman!?”
“I smell burning!” She fumbled around the nightstand for her glasses, which were really only used when she first woke up.
Vincent grumbled before throwing the covers off of him and grabbing his leg gear. “I don’t know what you want me to do about it! By the time my leg gets on we’ll be burned alive!”
Leha rolled her eyes, “I’m already out of bed, just hurry up.” She threw her robe on and hurried to open the door to her bedroom. As soon as the door creaked open she heard hushed voices coming from the kitchen, where there happened to be a lot of smoke coming from.
“Terra! I thought you said you could make pancakes!”
“Roxas, shut up! I can, I just… need a minute with your stove…”
“Guys come on, mom wakes up at like nine everyday!”
“Sora, were almost done we’re just waiting on the pancakes.”
“Yeah… sorry I’m just nervous.”
Leha smiled and hurried down her stairs, tying her robe as she went. She went to the kitchen and stood in the doorway, her heart swelling when her gaze landed on the scene in front of her. All five of her boys were in the kitchen, each doing various tasks as they prepared what looked like a huge Mother’s Day breakfast for her. Terra, Riku, and Squall were there too. Tears came to her eyes as Terra flipped a pancake, “see? I told you!”
“Boys I thought you said you couldn’t come home this weekend!”
All eight of them turned to her with horrified gasps.
“I told you she got up at nine!”
“The pancakes aren’t done!”
“Where’s dad?”
“He was supposed to distract her!”
Leha laughed as Cloud stood up, hushing them with a glare, “guys it’s okay. Breakfast is almost done and I just finished brewing the coffee.” Cloud grinned at her and enveloped her in a hug. “Happy Mother’s Day mom. I hope you don’t mind the little lie about us not coming to visit.”
She hugged him tightly, burying her face in his shoulder. “Are you kidding me? No, I don’t care! This is amazing! All of you are amazing!”
Vanitas snorted, “wait until you try the food, Ventus made the bacon without people realizing.”
“I tried!”
Leha laughed and pushed away from Cloud slightly. “Guys Don’t bicker, I’m sure everything will taste wonderful. I love you guys so much, come here!” She opened her arms wide and the other boys hurried forward, encircling her in a large group hug. “You guys are my favorite boys.”
Riku kisses her on the cheek, “happy Mother’s Day mom.”
The Caelum Household:
Soft snores greeted Aulea as she began to wake up. She stretched, leaving her sleeping husband to go and make the coffee. She had been a little disappointed that Noctis was too busy to come home for Mother’s Day, but they had all agreed to do something next weekend.
Aulea froze in her tracks as she stepped into the kitchen and saw her son snoring at the kitchen table. “Noctis?”
Noctis snorted, “Whazzit? I’m up!” He rubbed the sleep out of his eyes and looked up at his mother staring at him incredulously. “Happy Mother’s Day, Mom.”
Aulea resisted chuckling at her son’s sleepy muttering and went over to the coffee maker, setting some up to brew. “I thought you were busy this weekend, honey?”
“I, uh,” Noctis rubbed his face, trying to wake up more, “I wanted to surprise you.” He hid a yawn behind his hand before standing up to stretch. “I got us appointments at that spa you love so much.”
Aulea couldn’t help the smile that lit up her face as she rushed over and startled Noctis with a hug and kisses on his cheeks. “Awwwwww! My precious baby! You are too sweet for words!”
“Mom!” Noctis protested the attention he was being given but didn’t push away, only sighing when she finally let him go and rubbing his cheek like an embarrassed kid. Noctis smirked a little at her grin, “well, you better go get ready.” Aulea nodded, heading to the bedroom and then turning back to give Noctis another quick peck on the cheek before running off to get ready before he could complain more. Noctis shook his head fondly, looking forward to pampering his mother for the day.
The Skye Household:
They stood on the same spot of the beach on this day every year. It wouldn’t change this year, or the years yet to come. Kairi let out a shaky breath before walking over to the edge of the water, the waves lapping at her salt stained converse. In her hands was a small star shaped flower. The paopu blossom had just started to open when she plucked it from the tree. Namine stood to her right, then Xion was on Namine’s right. Namine held a paopu blossom too whereas Xion held a few asters. The purple and white blossoms stark against her tanned hands. Aqua and Gin were some way behind them, letting them have their moment before they drove to the cemetery to visit Aqua’s mother. Kairi knelt in the warm sea water, dipping her hands in the water, letting the blossom float trapped within her hands. She didn’t need to turn her head to know that Namine and Xion were doing the same.
She sighed, “happy Mother’s Day mom. We miss you everyday. It’s been getting better, but…” she trailed off and looked towards Namine.
“Ever since we went off to college it’s gotten better. It’s nice kind of learning how to function on our own. Still would have been nice to have you by our side though.”
Xion cleared her throat, an unmistakable waver to her voice. “Anyways, we hope you’re doing great wherever you are and we know you’re watching out for us. Tell dad we say hi and that we love him.”
She then lifted her hands from the water, watching with tears in her eyes as her flowers were pulled out with the tide, lazily swirling around the two paopu blossoms her sisters had dropped. As the blossoms drifted out of sight the girls stood from the water and headed back to Aqua and Gin, small smiles on their faces after paying tribute to their mother. There was always something about the islands that made it feel like their mother was right there with them when they preformed their little ritual. Gin wrapped his arms around the three girls and kissed the tops of their heads before marching them to the waiting car.

Notes: When the Strife boys are homesick, Ignis helps by planning family dinners.
“That is a staggering amount of parmesan cheese.” Ignis looked on in horrified fascination as his boyfriend’s cousin continued to shred the white cheese onto his pasta.
“There is no such thing,” Sora grinned as he finally put down the grater and now much smaller wedge.
Prompto smiled sheepishly as Ignis gave the young brunet a stern look. “He doesn’t mean to insult your cooking, Igs, he just really likes cheese.”
Ignis pushed his glasses up his nose, a clear sign of his frustration, “It is fettucine alfredo…it has a sauce literally made of cheese.”
Prompto patted Ignis on the shoulder reassuringly. He had told him he wouldn’t want to cook for his cousins, but he had insisted on making them a family dinner when he overheard them all saying they missed home cooked, family meals.
Ventus smiled at Ignis softly, almost apologetically, “It’s really delicious as is, Iggy. Thank you for making it for us.” Prompto smiled at the other blond in thanks.
Ignis pushed his glasses up, “It is not a problem, Ventus. I’m glad you like it.” He dug into the pasta, straight back and proper etiquette looking intensely out of place surrounded by the loud Strifes, their postures slouching forward and their elbows sometimes resting on the table (though they did try). Prompto couldn’t find it in himself to be embarrassed at this point though, not when he knew that Ignis cared for his family almost as much as Prompto himself did.
“Soooo…” They all looked up from their plates to see Vanitas dusting his pasta with a generous amount of red pepper flakes. “Prompto tells us you’re going to be learning Al Bhed, Iggy.”
Ignis's brows shot up in shock, “I am actually. I’m surprised he already told you.”
Prompto chuckled a little nervously, “Well, it’s exciting that you’d learn a new language for me.” Ignis smiled softly at his boyfriend, reaching out to grab his hand, only to have the blond pull away quickly when his cousins started hooting and hollering at them. Prompto glared at them all, “Would you guys cut that out? Every damn time.” He glared down at his plate.
Sora grinned at the two of them, “We can’t help it, you guys are just too cute! Sometimes cuter than me and Kairi!”
Vanitas snorted, “Sometimes?”
Sora turned a glare on his older brother, “You watch your mouth, Vanni! Before I decide you and Iris are the cutest couple.”
Vanitas looked mocked horrified at that, “Oh no! Anything but cute! Please, I take it back!”
Sora shrugged, grinning, “I couldn’t do that anyway, the only thing cute about your relationship is Iris.” Vanitas glared half-heartedly as Sora nudged him with his elbow.
“I can’t believe Namine and I aren’t your cutest couple.” Roxas grinned, “We’re just like Link and Zelda!”
Sora pointed at him with his fork, “That’s why. I ship Link and Midna.”
Roxas gasped in complete and utter horror, “You take that back!”
Sora shook his head while Ventus spoke up, “Oh come on, you all know Xion and I are the cutest.”
“Ugh, no. You two are gross.” Vanitas made a gagging motion.
“What? No we’re not.”
Prompto chuckled as the rest of the table nodded their agreement, “Sorry, Ven, even I have agree on this. You and Xi can be pretty gross with your PDA.”
Ven crossed his arms, pouting, “Well, screw you guys too!” He stuck his tongue out at them all and glared towards Ignis, “And you’re the worst.”
Ignis raised an eyebrow, “I’m sorry? What exactly is it I have done?”
“You didn’t stand up for me! You don’t think Xion and I are gross do you.”
Ignis hummed as though giving it some thought, “I plead the fifth.” Ventus groaned as the rest of them giggled, “Though contrary to what Sora thinks, I do find Vanitas and Iris's relationship quite adorable.”
“What!? No!” Vanitas glared at the smug expression on Ignis’s face.
Ignis shrugged, “Just accept the fact that you’re adorable Vanitas. No amount of glares can change it.”
Vanitas groaned as his brothers all laughed at him, Ventus even going as far as pinching his cheek for a millisecond before Vanitas swatted him away. He grinned evilly suddenly as he thought of something, “So, Ignis, if you’re learning Al Bhed, does that mean you’ll be taking the pilgrimage?”
Ignis made an undignified noise as he choked on his drink. “I’m sorry, what?”
Sora grinned happily as Prompto looked at his cousins with wide eyes, “Oh em gee! Are you?” The five boys leaned towards Ignis while Prompto covered his blushing face with his hands.
Ignis sat up straighter, cleaning up the drink that had spilled around him, “That is not something I will be discussing with you four.”
The Strifes all groaned in disappointment and Prompto shot Ignis a sheepish smile. “Sorry,” he mouthed to him. Ignis just grabbed his hand under the table, squeezing it reassuringly.
Notes: I wrote this because Cloud can’t stay with the group forever unfortunately, but I thought a heartfelt goodbye was a perfect way to end this short period.. Hope you guys enjoy!
Cloud held the feather he stole from Prompto’s earrings between his finger and thumb. He dangled it over the unsuspecting Ventus, his nose just inches away from it. He didn’t want to tickle Ventus awake… well he kinda did, but that didn’t mean it wasn’t still hard for him to do it. Cloud knew that as soon as Ventus woke up it was official, his time at the college with his friends was over and he had to head back to active duty. He got a call earlier that told him to go to the SOLDIER recruitment office and visit the doctor there to get the all clear for duty, which he got instantly. Compared to how he looked when he first arrived he was unrecognizable, his cheeks have filled back in and his skin was back to being the perfect seamless white it was before, minus a few scars here and there. His eyes were also bright, dark circles completely disappearing. He frowned and leaned closer over the couch where Ventus was takin his nap. He huffed out a sigh and brushed the feather across the bottom of Ven’s nose slowly. The response was instant, Ventus’s nose scrunched up and he tried to turn his head away from the annoyance, but Cloud followed him with the feather. After a few moments of Cloud brushing his nose Ven’s eyes opened to just slits.
“What the hell do you want Cloud?”
Cloud grinned victoriously and put the feather down. “I’m leaving back for active duty. Wanted to say goodbye before I leave.”
Ventus sat up, a sad look behind his eyes. “Oh really? Why?”
Cloud gestured to himself. “I’m fit for duty again. It was nice coming here for a visit.”
Ven yawned and nodded before standing up. “Come on, I’ll walk you to the station.”
Cloud grinned, “Thanks… everyone else offered that too.”
“Let me guess… Prompto and all of our brothers are out there?”
“Yup.”
Ventus chuckled, “Okay well let’s go.”
They walked towards the door of the café, people nodding in respect to Cloud in his SOLDIER uniform, some even thanking him for his service. Cloud just grimaced and nodded in reply. It’s not that he didn’t like serving his country, he more so didn’t like attention being drawn to him. They exited the darkened café quickly, a group of bright blue eyes and one pair of golden greeting them just outside. They all had light tears in their eyes as the eldest one was leaving them again.
Prompto worried his lip, “Do you really have to go Cloud? Why can’t you crash on my couch forever?”
Cloud smiled sadly at him, “I’m needed elsewhere guys. If my country didn’t need me, then for sure Zack, Tifa, and Aerith would be bothering me to come home eventually.”
Vanitas rolled his eyes, doing his best to hide his tears (and failing). “Why can’t you all just stay closer here?”
Cloud sighed and held his arms open. “Come on, group hug before the station.”
Immediately all of them rushed to his arms, each person hugging as tight as they could. Because Cloud was a SOLDIER they didn’t get to see him as often as they would have wanted and having him on vacation for a whole week was amazing. It hadn’t been that way since they were children.
Cloud hugged them tightly, “I’m sorry guys, but I’m needed elsewhere. You’ll see me again soon. My birthday is coming up remember?”
Sora sniffled, “Not soon enough…”
“It will be okay guys. We can call and skype whenever we want.”
Roxas rolled his eyes, “It’s not the same.”
Cloud squeezed tighter, switching to speak in Al Bhed. “Hey, remember what mom always used to say to us?”
Prompto laughed, “Remember to eat your vegetables?”
The group laughed as Cloud shook his head, “No you ass. ‘May your heart be your guiding key’. We will see each other soon, you just gotta believe me and have faith I’ll come back soon.”
Roxas pulled away and wiped small tears from his eyes, “We should get you to the station.”
Cloud nodded, “Right. Well let’s go guys, I’ll text you when I get back to Insomnia.”
Prompto chuckled thickly, “You better! We’ll miss you Cloud.”
“I’ll miss you guys too.”
Sora grinned, “It’s only like a week until the big party on the island for everyone’s birthday! We can handle it.”
Cloud nodded and began walking towards the University train station. “See? Then you will also get to see Squall. It will be okay. Even if I’m not around guys, I’m still your big brother and twin.” He smiled at Prompto who grinned softly back.
When they reached the train, each person hugged Cloud individually. As Roxas was pulling away he handed him a bag of food no one noticed he had. “For your trip back. We love you Cloud.”
Cloud smiled and held on to the bag tightly, “Thanks Roxas. Love you all too and remember.” He switched to Al Bhed quickly, “May our hearts be our guiding keys.”
His siblings and cousin nodded in agreement before repeating the old Al Bhed saying back to him. Prompto wiped his cheeks, “you better call and text each one of us when you get back and you better text the group chat.”
Cloud began climbing the steps into the train, “I will.”
Roxas put his hand on his hips, “Don’t eat the cupcake first! Real food, then cupcake!”
Cloud laughed and turned around waving him off, “I can do what I want!” They fell silent as Cloud disappeared into the train. They could see him find a seat rather quickly on the same side and rushed to the window when he opened it.
“I promise I will call and message everyone. I love all of you!” The train began slowly chugging forward, prompting his family to run after it.
“We love you too!” Prompto called.
Vanitas smirked, “You definitely win the ‘not as bad as you could have been award’!”
Ventus held up his hand in a farewell wave. “We miss you!”
Sora chased after Cloud, “I’ll send you my new Vines every day!”
Roxas waved his arms above his head, “I’ll send you care packages!”
They ran until they reached the end of the platform, still waving until Cloud was pulled from view by the quickly speeding train.
Notes: I wanted to put in some family stuff between Prompto and the other Strifes and my family always seem to get into weird conversations about this kind of stuff so I decided the boys would too.
Prompto looked up from his book, his cousins still had their heads buried in the texts. They had all decided to meet up at the café to have a small student session to help each other, no phones allowed and it had been going well so far. Until Prompto got a nagging thought and he was just about to end the good session.
“You ever wonder about parallel universes?”
On cue almost four pairs of eyes looked up him, three blue and one bright golden. “What do you mean?”
Prompto frowned, “like… do you think they exist or are we just here alone and doomed to live our life?”
Ventus raised an eyebrow and looked over at his twin who just shrugged. Sora snapped his book shut, “oh parallel universes totally exist! Remember those dreams I had of all of us? I fight with Mickey Mouse to save the worlds? Go ahead and tell me that’s not a parallel universe.”
Roxas narrowed his eyes at the brunette, “I hope its not! I don’t exist in that universe!”
Prompto nodded in agreement, “yeah and no offense Sora but the dream you had where Luna and Noctis died after he became king really stinks too.”
“But what if it’s a universe calling out for help?”
Vanitas shook his head, “ignore it. It sounds awful, I’m more than just pent up negative emotions.”
Sora sighed dejectedly as Ventus nodded in agreement with Van. “Come on man, in in a coma in your dreams. Maybe you’re just trying to tell us how you really feel about us.” He said the part in a teasing tone making Sora grin.
“Oh hush Ven. But why do you ask Prom?”
Prompto shrugged, “I don’t know… just was thinking about it. What do you think they could be like?”
“Parallel universes?”
“Yeah.”
Vanitas closed his textbook and leaned forward, “I bet there’s one where Prompto was never adopted by Aunt Valerie.”
Prompto gasped and looked at his cousins horrified, “oh gods I already hate it.”
Ven smirked before putting a hand on his chin. “Theoretically Sora’s dreams could very well be parallel universes reaching out to him subconsciously.”
“Like the other Sora is trying to reach out to me?”
“I don’t see why not.”
Sora put his hand over his heart, uttering a quiet wow before being nudged by his twin. “Hey dork you better not follow the other Sora and stay right where you are. This universe needs you more than the other one!”
Sora laughed and nodded, “of course! I wouldn’t ever leave my family!”
Prompto frowned at the table, “I wonder if I never left my dad in other universes…” he placed his hand over the large scar on his wrist. His cousins shared a look between the four of them before Vanitas groaned and spoke up.
“Prompto none of that matters because you’re here now. Besithia isn’t going to hurt you because we’re here to stop him… and Ignis won’t let any man get close to you.”
Prompto let out a small chuckle at the expense of his jealous boyfriend before nodding. “Yeah sorry it just sucks I go to the same college as where he works because there is a resemblance.”
Roxas cringed, “you better not look like him when you’re old.”
“Yeah you better keep your chocobo butt hairdo!”
“My hair does not look like a chocobo butt! Why does everyone say that?”
Sora rolled his eyes, “dude we literally grew up on a chocobo ranch. I think we would know if your hair looked like a butt or not.”
Prompto narrowed his eyes at the Strife teen next to him before Venus shrugged, “it’s not like you look like a butt… just the big feathers around the butt.”
“Wow I hate all of you.”
“Aw, we hate you too.”
Roxas furrowed his brow in thought before turning to the kitchen doors in the café. “I wonder if Zo would have more information about parallel universes…”
Vanitas snorted, “is that even a question? Of course he does.”
Roxas nodded, “I’ll be back. I’m gonna grab him.” Roxas got up quickly and hurried to the kitchens, dragging out a disgruntled Ienzo quickly. “Okay Zo, blow our minds.”
Ienzo huffed angrily, “stop calling me Zo and I will.”
“Fine fine.”
Ienzo nodded and sighed, “basically you all are talking about the multiverse theory. The Multiverse theory is basically a different version of the Butterfly effect.” He paused as Sora’s hand went in the air. Ienzo raised his eyebrows, “Sora?”
“What is the butterfly effect?”
Ienzo sighed again, “the butterfly effect is when you do one thing that completely changes your life. Have you ever played the game Until Dawn?”
Sora nodded, “yes and no. I was asleep in the beginning and woke up during Jessica and Mike’s time in the mines.”
“Great so you completely missed the explanation of the butterfly effect. Well it doesn’t matter, you know how in the game depending on what choices you make people live or die or in the mine depending on what you do you can get Jessica naked?”
“Absolutely.”
“That’s the butterfly effect.”
“Oh.”
Ienzo took in a deep breath, hoping his eyebrow would stop twitching. “Anyways, the multiverse theory states that for every choice we make a parallel universe appears depending on how we choose from one thing to the other. For instance, if you gave me the choice of dating Prompto or Demyx and I chose Prompto, I never would sorry,”
“That’s fine.”
“Good. Anyways, if I chose Prompto well our lives would be different correct?” The five adults nodded, staring at Ienzo with awestruck expressions. “I would be with Prompto, Ignis would be less close to Prompto, and Demyx would still be crying over David Bowies death.”
“He still does that.”
“I know Roxas, I pulled that one out of my ass.”
“Oh.”
Ventus looked around confused, “wait so you’re telling me that for every choice I make there’s a parallel universe where I made the other choice?”
“In most theories supposedly yes.”
“What if I choose both things?”
“Then there’s no universe.”
“Woah…”
Ienzo nodded before turning back to Roxas, “can I go back to work now?”
“Yeah! Thanks Zo!”
“And I didn’t think I could hate you more.”
“Oh hush Zo!”
Ienzo rolled his eyes and headed back to the kitchen hurriedly as Ventus laid his head on the table. “Wow my head hurts now…”
Prompto nodded, “yeah I kinda wanna go take a nap.”
Sora perked up at those words, “naptime at Prompto’s house?”
“Hell yeah!”
They looked at the eldest hopefully making him groan, “fine! Let’s go, but we need to put in at least one more hour of study time before nap time guys.”
The four Strifes began gathering their stuff quickly and answered him in unison, “deal!”
Prompto huffed and gathered his things before heading to the door, his cousins right behind him. They made it back to his shared apartment in record time, where they did in fact not study and instead the five of them collapsed on the couch and promptly fell asleep until Iggy came home several hours later. When Ignis saw the family on the couch he just smiled fondly and shook his head, he found these five men like this more often than not. It showed just how close the family was and Ignis loved it. He quietly slipped off his shoes and crept past them, heading to his room and trying not to wake the group. He could let them nap for a few more minutes, after all it was also a rare opportunity for him to get a nap in and he wasn’t passing up that chance.
Notes: We always like to headcanon that in a normal universe Roxas and Namine are fans of the Legend of Zelda and with as artsy as Namine is they would definitely do some cosplay.
Xion sighed tiredly as she opened the door to her room, just wanting to flop down and sleep after a long day of pop quizzes and lectures. She looked up at the sound of shuffling expecting to just see Namine cleaning up but was instead greeted with the sight of two dress mannequins, loads of fabric, and Namine sitting on her bed combing out a long, blonde wig while Roxas sat next to her embroidering a blue shirt.
Namine looked up when the door opened, smiling softly, “Evening, Xion. I hope you don’t mind. Lea kicked us out of Roxas' room because he said we were making too much noise.”
Roxas snorted and rolled his eyes, “More like he wanted to invite Riku over.”
Namine giggled as she stepped over to her desk, placing the wig on a stand and grabbing another blue shirt and embroidery supplies.
“You guys are getting ready for comic con…” Xion looked around incredulously now noticing the sewing patterns strewn over Namine's usually neat desk.
Roxas just hummed at her, needle stuck between his lips while he worked a knot out of his thread; Namine grinned excitedly as she pulled out some gold ribbon, “Yes! I’m so excited! We’ve decided to go as Breath of the Wild Link and Zelda.”
Xion set her backpack at the end of her bed, looking at the two incredulously. “Isn’t the local comic con like three months away?”
Namine sighed, “I know, I know, we’re behind schedule, but we’ll get it done, right, Rox?” she looked over to the other blond and he nodded in affirmation, now gently threading the needle back and forth through the fabric.
Xion opened her mouth, about to say something, then closed it again, deciding it wasn’t worth it. “Good luck you two. Don’t let me interrupt. I’ll just be trying to get some shut eye over here.”
Namine nodded, “Okay. We’ll be extra quiet.”
Xion just laid on her bed, drifting off to the shushing sound of thread pulling through fabric.

Other info: Roxas readily made the move to Daybreak University when he heard it was the top school for the culinary arts in the nation. He chipped in with Hayner, Pence, and Olette to buy The Usual Spot from Olette’s parents and does much of the baking there. His friends and family quickly followed suit with him, not to mention that some of their older siblings already went there. He misses his island a little, but is absolutely enthralled with the city life. Roxas is glad he can room with his twin in the dorms however, he feels as though that makes him a little less homesick.
