The Strife Household:
Leha’s nose scrunched up, the smell waking her from her slumber. “Vinny! Get up!” She reached over and smacked him across the gut, making him sit up with a grunt.
“What do you want woman!?”
“I smell burning!” She fumbled around the nightstand for her glasses, which were really only used when she first woke up.
Vincent grumbled before throwing the covers off of him and grabbing his leg gear. “I don’t know what you want me to do about it! By the time my leg gets on we’ll be burned alive!”
Leha rolled her eyes, “I’m already out of bed, just hurry up.” She threw her robe on and hurried to open the door to her bedroom. As soon as the door creaked open she heard hushed voices coming from the kitchen, where there happened to be a lot of smoke coming from.
“Terra! I thought you said you could make pancakes!”
“Roxas, shut up! I can, I just… need a minute with your stove…”
“Guys come on, mom wakes up at like nine everyday!”
“Sora, were almost done we’re just waiting on the pancakes.”
“Yeah… sorry I’m just nervous.”
Leha smiled and hurried down her stairs, tying her robe as she went. She went to the kitchen and stood in the doorway, her heart swelling when her gaze landed on the scene in front of her. All five of her boys were in the kitchen, each doing various tasks as they prepared what looked like a huge Mother’s Day breakfast for her. Terra, Riku, and Squall were there too. Tears came to her eyes as Terra flipped a pancake, “see? I told you!”
“Boys I thought you said you couldn’t come home this weekend!”
All eight of them turned to her with horrified gasps.
“I told you she got up at nine!”
“The pancakes aren’t done!”
“Where’s dad?”
“He was supposed to distract her!”
Leha laughed as Cloud stood up, hushing them with a glare, “guys it’s okay. Breakfast is almost done and I just finished brewing the coffee.” Cloud grinned at her and enveloped her in a hug. “Happy Mother’s Day mom. I hope you don’t mind the little lie about us not coming to visit.”
She hugged him tightly, burying her face in his shoulder. “Are you kidding me? No, I don’t care! This is amazing! All of you are amazing!”
Vanitas snorted, “wait until you try the food, Ventus made the bacon without people realizing.”
“I tried!”
Leha laughed and pushed away from Cloud slightly. “Guys Don’t bicker, I’m sure everything will taste wonderful. I love you guys so much, come here!” She opened her arms wide and the other boys hurried forward, encircling her in a large group hug. “You guys are my favorite boys.”
Riku kisses her on the cheek, “happy Mother’s Day mom.”
The Caelum Household:
Soft snores greeted Aulea as she began to wake up. She stretched, leaving her sleeping husband to go and make the coffee. She had been a little disappointed that Noctis was too busy to come home for Mother’s Day, but they had all agreed to do something next weekend.
Aulea froze in her tracks as she stepped into the kitchen and saw her son snoring at the kitchen table. “Noctis?”
Noctis snorted, “Whazzit? I’m up!” He rubbed the sleep out of his eyes and looked up at his mother staring at him incredulously. “Happy Mother’s Day, Mom.”
Aulea resisted chuckling at her son’s sleepy muttering and went over to the coffee maker, setting some up to brew. “I thought you were busy this weekend, honey?”
“I, uh,” Noctis rubbed his face, trying to wake up more, “I wanted to surprise you.” He hid a yawn behind his hand before standing up to stretch. “I got us appointments at that spa you love so much.”
Aulea couldn’t help the smile that lit up her face as she rushed over and startled Noctis with a hug and kisses on his cheeks. “Awwwwww! My precious baby! You are too sweet for words!”
“Mom!” Noctis protested the attention he was being given but didn’t push away, only sighing when she finally let him go and rubbing his cheek like an embarrassed kid. Noctis smirked a little at her grin, “well, you better go get ready.” Aulea nodded, heading to the bedroom and then turning back to give Noctis another quick peck on the cheek before running off to get ready before he could complain more. Noctis shook his head fondly, looking forward to pampering his mother for the day.
The Skye Household:
They stood on the same spot of the beach on this day every year. It wouldn’t change this year, or the years yet to come. Kairi let out a shaky breath before walking over to the edge of the water, the waves lapping at her salt stained converse. In her hands was a small star shaped flower. The paopu blossom had just started to open when she plucked it from the tree. Namine stood to her right, then Xion was on Namine’s right. Namine held a paopu blossom too whereas Xion held a few asters. The purple and white blossoms stark against her tanned hands. Aqua and Gin were some way behind them, letting them have their moment before they drove to the cemetery to visit Aqua’s mother. Kairi knelt in the warm sea water, dipping her hands in the water, letting the blossom float trapped within her hands. She didn’t need to turn her head to know that Namine and Xion were doing the same.
She sighed, “happy Mother’s Day mom. We miss you everyday. It’s been getting better, but…” she trailed off and looked towards Namine.
“Ever since we went off to college it’s gotten better. It’s nice kind of learning how to function on our own. Still would have been nice to have you by our side though.”
Xion cleared her throat, an unmistakable waver to her voice. “Anyways, we hope you’re doing great wherever you are and we know you’re watching out for us. Tell dad we say hi and that we love him.”
She then lifted her hands from the water, watching with tears in her eyes as her flowers were pulled out with the tide, lazily swirling around the two paopu blossoms her sisters had dropped. As the blossoms drifted out of sight the girls stood from the water and headed back to Aqua and Gin, small smiles on their faces after paying tribute to their mother. There was always something about the islands that made it feel like their mother was right there with them when they preformed their little ritual. Gin wrapped his arms around the three girls and kissed the tops of their heads before marching them to the waiting car.
