Almost Family - 1x04
“But there was always something missing. And now, not as much anymore.”
Julia + her timing
Almost Family | Season Finale
I really enjoyed the season finale and I feel satisfied after watching it, but still eager to see what could happen in another season!
Like I already mentioned, I’m so happy Edie was honest with Amanda! That was really my biggest thing as far as being okay with them moving forward. Even though we didn’t see Edie tell Amanda about the positive pregnancy test, that’s not something she’d be able to keep to herself for long, so it doesn’t worry me. Whatever happens, I’m glad they are together. Edie is a mess, but I still love her.
I’m also glad that Edie told Leon how she really felt. Julia, too. Leon was in denial about the effect of what he did and he needed the harsh truths he got in this episode.
Amanda is an impressive character. She’s confident and great at her job, but I think it’s a nice contrast to see her be vulnerable and forgiving when it comes to Edie. I mentioned in a previous post that I thought Amanda would be hurt but still forgive Edie and I think her decision to do so was true to the story considering Amanda also played a role in creating the situation. We also got to see that she is genuine in her passion for fighting for the victims.
I’m glad Tim moved on from being angry, which he had a right to be, to ultimately letting Edie go and doing it with love. I think it says a lot of good things about his character to be able to realize that Edie isn’t a monster just because she made mistakes. It was nice to see him, Edie, and Amanda working together in some capacity and to see him trying to protect them from Chad when he could have easily been vindictive. Speaking of Chad, I’m glad that Edie decided to leave his practice!
There were definitely signs that Isaac had a crush on Julia, but he sure picked a bad time to let it be known to her. Julia shot him down, but I wonder if it’s something that might weigh on her mind more and more as time goes on, which would, of course, affect her relationship with Donovan and, ultimately, Roxy.
Overall, I think the season finale did a well with providing closure to some of the issues while still setting up for an additional season and it’s frustrating that nothing official has been announced yet, but I prefer to keep hope alive until I see otherwise!
Because there was finally closure on Tim and Edie’s relationship and more solidity in Amanda & Edie’s relationship, I don’t think it’d be the worst thing to see how they deal with the pregnancy. It would also be great to see how Edie handles either opening her own practice or working elsewhere. Considering Amanda and Edie fight on opposite sides of the law, it would be interesting to see how they handle other cases where they might have to oppose each other in court.
Even though Leon is in jail, I think there is still a lot that could be explored there. Maybe he runs into his son Miles in prison or other men who turn out to be his children. And considering this is TV, I wouldn’t be surprised if Leon ended up getting out of jail earlier than expected.
My main focus is Amanda and Edie, but I genuinely enjoy all of the stories and acting on this show!
So I think Almost Family isn’t a bad show they have great storylines and the actors were absolutely amazing actors fantastic at their jobs but I think their big issue is that they’d set up a really interesting storyline or really interesting concept and then just go like a step too far with it or just not do it properly. Like a show about all these people who find out they’re siblings bond and these three sisters bond more than anyone else and we get to see them and how they become family to each other and exploring how genetics makes your family vs found family. That’s a great concept and would make for an amazing show!!! But I think making Leon someone who assaulted all these women and trying to redeem him was a bad way of going about it. If they’d maybe done that concept and then made clear how bad Leon is and didn’t try to redeem him at all made clear he was the villian of the story that only deserved to go to prison that would have been okay maybe or if they’d introduced that concept and then maybe Leon died and the sisters bonded through that (I think that’s what happened in the Australian version) and like the court case was instead about saving the clinic or something. That would’ve been better. (Or if the movie was more like Delivery Man but that would’ve probs changed too many areas of the show for it to make sense) And then Amanda and Edie’s storyline. Edie finding out after ten years of marriage that she’s actually a lesbian and the stuff she said and did while figuring out she was a lesbian was also relatable and I really liked that. But just...the cheating was one step too far. I liked their storyline otherwise and I thought there was plenty of drama otherwise without the cheating they could have done without. I think there was a lot of that where they’d introduce these fantastic concepts but just kind of go one step too far or not do the storyline correctly. It wasn’t a bad show just I think they sometimes went too far with great concepts and kind of messed up the greatness of it or they just just did concepts that would have been great if done correctly but then they weren’t done correctly. I don’t regret watching it cause there were some great moments I’m just kind of sad that there were great concepts that just didn’t really pan out in the way they could’ve.

Starting Almost Family and it starts with a one night stand, sweetie I know the plot... you cannot be having random sex with strangers you meet, your dad put his seed in everybody...
Others get STD tests, they need a DNA test.
