Klaine Advent 2019 - Day 2: Beer/Cookies AU
Part 2 of “Christmas Cookies”
Kurt was exhausted. Watching Blaine register for the Cookie Competition had been draining. There was just something about Blaine that irritated Kurt beyond belief. It wasn’t that Blaine was rude. No, on the contrary. Blaine was nice, almost too nice. But underneath, Kurt knew that Blaine was a ruthless competitor. He still remembered the cheesecake fiasco back in their second term in culinary school.
The chef instructed them to make a cheesecake. It was their finals week, and Kurt needed to edge out the competition. Blaine had decided to make an Italian cheesecake using ricotta cheese. Kurt had decided to use crème fraîche for his cheesecake along with olive oil and honey. His cheesecake was delicious — well, or it would have been had he noticed the crème fraîche had expired before using it. His cheesecake was supposed to be creamy and oh so velvety, but instead it was clumpy and sour — and not in the good, citrusy kind of way.
After the practical, the chef looked at each dessert and graded them on presentation, flavor, and technical execution of the intended dessert. Kurt could barely look at the chef while he taste a slice of his cheesecake. It was terrible. Meanwhile, Blaine’s was pure perfection. Granted, he could have plated the dessert with a little more ambition and creativity, but there was no denying. Blaine’s cheesecake was superior to his, and Kurt did not like it one bit -- especially since he was forced to use the expired product because Blaine had arrived to class earlier and had raided the refrigerator taking all the best ingredients.
Later that day, Blaine approached Kurt to let him know that he had noticed the expired crème fraîche, but that he failed to toss it out since he figured someone else would. His seemingly honest apology and puppy eyes would have worked on anyone else, but on Kurt, never. This screamed sabotage -- or at the bare minimum, a serious case of lack of decorum and class etiquette.
While he was reminiscing, he found himself walking into a small bar. He asked the waitress if they had any cookies, and to his surprise, they did. He ordered a few along with a hot chocolate. Once the waitress set the food down, and he started eating his chocolate chip cookies, he nearly choked as he saw Blaine in the other side of the bar, beer in hand, talking to another guy.
Kurt tried to get the waitress’ attention without being too noticeable, but it was a little too late. Blaine locked eyes with him, finished his conversation with the other man, and walked straight to Kurt.
