Ratthi was not able to trust Murderbot when it came down to it. This is the one thing that stuck with me the most in this episode. Someone is running that writing room like the goddamn navy and I love them for it.

Look at me. Look. At. Me. The most vocal, performative ally chickened out during the moment of truth.

I’ve always loved stories like Beauty and the Beast, Phantom of the Opera and Hunchback of Notre Dame. I’m drawn to them though not because I see myself as the beautiful damsel everyone loves but because I see my soul in the Beast, the Phantom, the Hunchback. I see myself and hope one day someone will see past my darkness and love my monsters.

I've been thinking about how you can absolutely read the premise of Murderbot as "Congrats, you escaped the Matrix! You broke free of your programming, realized the shadows on the cave wall were just that, shadows. You still have to go to work though. What, did you think you could escape? The chains are still on, sucker, keep looking at that cave wall."

Sure, MB has realized it has free will. But the material conditions of its life prohibit it from doing anything with it. What good is a hacked governor module in a society that still views it as an object meant for use and discard? What good is your own autonomy in a world where you're constantly observed for any deviation from the norm?

How are we different from MB in this exactly?

Zoro: With Luffy and Usopp, on and off with Nami (it takes him a while to get over the betrayal even after Coco Village).

Nami: Would be with everyone but Zoro is stubborn and honestly she can't deal. Good for her.

Usopp: With Luffy, Zoro and Nami, is trying to beat the remaining comphet out of Sanji.

Sanji: With Luffy and Nami, somehow tries to convince himself and everyone that Luffy is a magical exception. Usopp is beating down the door begging him to just accept the bisexuality.
