I would just like to say on the Canadian health care system that although it doesn't cover dental most benefits (if you have them) cover it in some shape. I just went through a major double jaw surgery and although we did have to shell out $7000 most of that would have been covered if we hadn't already previously used our allotment. I also ended up four days in a private room in a hospital. Its a month later and for all the medication and hospital time it was $60. not a terrible deal id say.

That’s the thing, though not all employers will cover it. Especially if you don’t have full time work.

I’m working part time for my university and they don’t give me any health/dental insurance.

My dad did get dental benefits which he was able to use to half the cost of my orthodontics, but its definitely not something that is available to everyone.
