Dexter’s Signature Diary - Glasses Half Full

Every guy in my family has the same destiny — to rescue a damsel in distress. It's the same for all Prince Charmings, even the ones we're not related to. What can I say? We do go to a school where almost every single princess has a Happily Ever After. That's a lot of destinies needing a Prince Charming.

That's why I go to Ever After High. Same for my older brother, Daring. We have to live up to our family traditions. That's no problem for Daring and his blindingly charming smile. Everyone knows he's going to be Apple White's Prince Charming unless of course he's hit with a family curse. But what about me? Hex, I don't even know who I'm destined to rescue. I believe the heart can't follow a prewritten script, but I can't disappoint my family. As the second son of King Charming, there are a lot of hexpectations.

Lately, I've been wondering if it even matters and I couldn't be happier. Ever since Legacy Day, destiny has been called into question. It's kind of hexcellent, 'cause I have a, um, crush on this certain girl at school. If only I could be brave enough to let her know.

Lizzie’s Signature Diary - Chapter 5

Usually I don't get nervous. When I knocked on the White Queen's office door, however, that's exactly how I felt. "Please do enter with grace and... oh, it's you." She immediately turned cold. "My door suffered greatly after your last visit."

I bowed my head. "I'm sorry, Ms. Your Majesty the White Queen. I was angry, which is my destiny, but no excuse for losing my manners. Ever since we fled our home, I've been so focused on my sadness, I never considered yours. We have both lost so much, but you have done so with dignity and class. I have much to learn, but I promise you, I can be the Queen of Hearts our Wonderlandians need."

Slowly the White Queen smiled. "Please have a seat, Ms. Hearts."

I sat in front of her desk. "I haven't felt much like myself. I finally know why. And it is... important."

After I explained my concern, she rose from her chair. "That is... important. We should go immediately."

Lizzie’s Signature Diary - Chapter 1

Fairy many years ago, my mother agreed to co-rule Wonderland with the White Queen. My family home, Card Castle, was down the famous rabbit hole.  Through-the-looking-glass wide of Wonderland, the White Queen ruled her Queendom from the Rooks. She is now my Princessology teacher, and I respectfully refer to her as 'Ms. Her Majesty the White Queen'.  However, when she said I had to meet her after class, I was quite upset. "Am I in trouble...again?"  

The White Queen elegantly took her seat, ever so slowly tilted her head and began to raise an eyebrow.  Some find her deliberate mannerisms odd, but I know this lesson well--a queen's time is only valuable if people are willing to wait for it.  Her eyebrow finally reached its peak, "You are not in trouble. However, I notice you've had trouble making new friends. Perhaps you should stop shouting OFF WITH YOUR HEAD so much? Your classmates take it literally."

"What a bunch of Alices," I mumbled under my breath.

The White Queen sternly stood to her full height. "I know you're angry because you had to leave Wonderland, however you must respect-"

"Where's my respect?!" I yelled back. "Aren't I Lizzie Hearts? Future Queen of Hearts, co-ruler of Wonderland?" I was furious. I knew I wasn't the only Royal in the school, but that doesn't mean I should be treated so poorly!

"Don't you get it?! Wonderland is not the same! We will never be able to return!" The White Queen uncharacteristically shouted back. "The sooner you realize that, the better!" She cleared her throat to regain her composure, "Lizzie, please, Ever After is our home now."

"Home? This isn't my home. This is the home of the people who took my home away from me," I slammed the door behind me as hard as I could.

Lizzie’s Signature Diary - Home Is Where the Heart Is

I love Wonderland. It's simply the most nonsensical, riddle-tastic, wonderland-iful place ever after. It's also my home. And I miss it dearly.

If I were home, I would be privately tutored to be the perfect Royal that Wonderland needs. For you see, my destiny is to be the next Queen of Hearts. Instead I'm at Ever After High, taking classes like General Villainy. Can you imagine? Me, a villain? I'm not a villain! People believe I'm a few cards short of a full deck because I often yell "OFF WITH YOUR HEAD!" But where I come from that phrase is simply a common courtesy. If someone brings you tea, you thank them by saying, "OFF WITH YOUR HEAD!" If they win at cards, you congratulate them with an "OFF WITH YOUR HEAD!" You see? People shouldn't take it so literally. I don't understand this place. Everyone sees things in black and red. But I'm trying to fit in, because, sadly, I fear I may never see Wonderland again.

Holly’s Signature Diary - Chapter 5

Over the next several days, I reread every story I knew, searching for new meanings about finding your own destiny. But every story seems exactly the same as the last time I read it.

Days turned into weeks. I searched deeper for older stories... ones that had not been told in a while. Although they were darker, they still had the same essence... Snow White always bites into the apple, Cinderella always loses her shoe, Pinocchio's nose always grows, and Sleeping Beauty always falls asleep.

KNOCK! KNOCK! Jumping awake, I realized I must have dozed off. Then I heard the knocking again. It wasn't coming from a door. No, the knocking was coming from the floor. I followed the sound, when it suddenly stopped. In front of my feet lay an old book. I wiped the dust from its cover... The Origin of Ever After High by M. Grimm & G. Grimm. Curiously, the book opened on its own. I read the page before me and joyfully gasped. If this wasn't going to convince Headmaster Grimm, nothing would.

Holly’s Signature Diary - The Long and Short of It

Finally, after all these years memorizing every fairytale, writing fan fic about my favorite legends, and, of course, studying my own destiny, I get to let my hair down at Ever After High! This is my first time living outside the tower. I was hair over heels with hexcitement! I even read The Manual of Entirely Reasonable School Rules from cover-to-cover. I didn't want everyone thinking I was some kind of weirdo. I am the daughter of Rapunzel, after all.

Actually, I'm not the only daughter of Rapunzel. I have an identical twin, Poppy, who can't go to Ever After High. I was born just a hair before her, making the family legacy my responsibility. Poppy was destined to be a fairytale without a story, and I know it always secretly bothered her. I always wondered if she would get her Once Upon A Time. When you have a legacy a part of you will live forever after. Without one, people eventually forget. So I promised myself that I would make sure that she could join me at Ever After High. The night before I left for school, I looked at the stars outside the tower window and wished that both of us could have a Once Upon a Time...
