Roy/Ed OTPoly – How Does It Work – the EXTENDED version
Just remind me… when does it start?
Exactly 1 week from now (that means June 1st) – and in a beautiful correlation with Roy’s day – the sign up starts. A separate post will be posted then, with instructions & signing up link. Be sure to look out for it so you don’t miss it!
The game itself will start on July 1st, effectively giving you 1 month to sign up prior to the starting date.
After signing up, you will receive your first roll (2 rolls of 6-faced-cube, just like in the real monopoly. Which means you are facing numbers from 2 to 12). Your roll will determine your prompt, based on the spot on the board you landed on.
Prompts go by topics (‘cities’ in the original game, if you will), then by tropes (‘street names’ in the original game version). Each has their individual required word count, which comes at 3 levels (base, typically between 300 words to 800 words, depending on the spot; house, typically between 800 words to 2500 words; and hotel, typically between 3000 words to 6000 words). Each level gives you a different amount of points (3 for base level, 5 for house level, 8 for hotel level). You choose the level you feel comfortable writing – there’s no pressure!
Prompts will look something like this:
Prompt: Domestic: write tooth-rotting fluff about Ed and Roy being domestic. Word count: 492-873 (3 points)
House level: The fic takes place during their first week of living together. Word count: 1109-2983 (5 points)
Hotel level: Either Ed or Roy didn't tell the other that they still keep their old place (piece must remain in fluff genre). Word count: 3447-5972 (8 points)
Once you are done, you post your prompt at the designated collection (will be sent with the assignments and also posted here later), and you fill the Returning Player Form (will be sent with the assignments), and wait for your next roll!
Simple, isn’t it? Of course, things become even clearer once you start, and the mods are always happy to help with questions.
How long does it run for?
The game will run for the total of three months – from July 1st until September 15th, with the remaining 2 weeks left to post your last prompts, comments, etc before final point count.
The winning team will be announced on October 1st.
That’s it for today folks!
