For the character you're making for the Buffyverse-without-Buffy-characters LARP: 6, 12, 15!
(from this post!)
Oh, the Buffyverse-without-Buffy-characters thing was a tabletop game from a bunch of years ago – the LARP I’m making a character for is a D&D-setting thing that’s happening in May. Which would you prefer? (Or should I do both?)
TELL ME MORE ABOUT YOUR DALISH WARDEN. What are her motivations? What class? what was her relationship with Merrill, if I'm remembering this origin right?
OKAY :D
Zivia’s a Rogue, more inclined toward melee than range fighting. (I still prefer combat as a mage, but stealth plus traps plus flask bombs can make up for a lot of disadvantages. >:D)
Her in-game relationship with Merrill was … kind of cursory, as the origin doesn’t give you a lot of opportunity to interact, and I haven’t headcanoned much more than that. Sorry.
Motivations, hmmm. (Cut for spoilers.)
Zivia never developed the vehement loyalty to Duncan that most of his recruits seem to have (and that my mage Warden Kera did). I don’t think she distrusted him as such, but her gratitude to him for saving her life was tempered, I think, by the fact that nobody saved Tamlen’s.
(Speaking of which: after the attack on the party camp in which Tamlen’s fate is revealed, Zivia will go after Shrieks with particular ferocity, regardless of who or what else is involved in the combat.)
Possibly because of the first point (and also possibly because they’re mostly humans), Zivia has never really thought of the Grey Wardens as her people, or of herself as belonging to them. Which means she’s not so inclined to take Loghain’s betrayal of the Wardens personally. I haven’t got her to the Landsmeet yet, but I suspect she’s going to agree to let him take the Joining. Sorry, Alistair.
She gets horribly homesick sometimes, and doesn’t think she’ll ever see her clan again. The alienage in Denerim actually made that homesickness worse: none of them have vallaslin, and even their hahren swears by the Maker, and it just feels wrong.
She’s in love with Leliana, and frequently bewildered by that. Especially early on, when Leliana makes ignorant comments about elves in general or the Dalish in particular; sometimes later too, when Leliana persists in arguing with Morrigan about a god that Zivia doesn’t believe in either. Somehow her irritation never lasts longer than the next night they’re on watch together and she can ask Leliana to tell her another story.
does your warden cook? what's her favorite thing to make or eat?
Hmm. I’m gonna say Kera (human mage) doesn’t cook; there wasn’t much opportunity to learn how in the Circle Tower. Her favorite thing to eat is still-warm fresh bread with butter and jam, which is not readily available on the road and which she therefore searches for at every town the party stops in. Somewhere in Denerim there’s a bakery whose proprietor has gotten so used to her orders that he tells his apprentice to start putting one together as soon as he spots her through the shop window.
Zivia (Dalish rogue), on the other hand, has a pretty good grasp of the rudiments of cooking; she’s no gourmet chef but she can put together some basic dishes that people will willingly eat. Her favorite thing to make and eat is pigeon soup; it’s hard to make on the road, though, because to do it right you need to simmer it for upwards of eight hours.
Obscure ask for your Dragon Age OC! (Or feel free to answer for multiple OCs!) Does your OC think of themselves as a cool person? Do you think they'd like themselves as a friend?
Oooh, that is a great question. I’m gonna answer for Kera (human mage Warden).
Kera isn’t very introspective and doesn’t think a lot about what kind of person she is, but if you asked her, she’d probably say she’s a good person, or tries to be. If she encountered herself or someone very like herself, I think they could be pretty good friends, provided they didn’t run into conflict over which of them is in charge.
(Ironically, the closest Kera has gotten to meeting anyone very like herself is Anora. And they probably could have been friends, if things had gone differently.)
me: *discussing aspect of RP character’s angsty backstory*
me: so yeah, that's definitely going to come out in [the game] someday. *CHEERFUL*
friend: I'm beginning to think when you say 'cheerful' what you really mean is clutching a bag of oreos and weeping into your favorite woobie.
me: ... well
me: you’re not wrong
