New Gladiator Verse

Whoa, this got long. I don’t usually use keep reading tags, but your dashes will thank me. Also, disclaimer: I did some research for this, but the specific time period Nasir would have been born into was exactly where things got fuzzy in Syrian history, and some sources were contradictory. I did my best, but the little history parts of this (I tried to limit it, tbh) might be historical fiction at best. :)

Nasir was born in Syria during a time where it was under Greek Seleucid control. Nasir’s brother, Adar, was born a year and a half later (their mother, Khannah, died in childbirth). Citizen’s Militias had been mostly wiped out years before, but a few still remained, including the one lead by Nasir’s father, Yadida. For a few years, conflict was minimal, as the region was seen as a buffer zone between other conflicts around them, but bloody conflict over the throne of Syria when Nasir was nine led to invasion by Armenia. Armenia’s king installed himself as King of Syria, a move welcomed by the Syrians, seeing it as protection from the Seleucids and Romans alike. But the few remaining militias did not let their guards down, and Nasir was raised learning to wield sword and spear from a young age, as was his brother

Armenian control held in Syria during the time Nasir lived there, but conflict was near constant, and distrust of both Romans and Seleucid Greeks was high. Recognizing Rome as an ever growing threat, however, while the Seleucid empire began to crumble, Yadida made learning Latin a priority for himself and his sons. Nasir also excelled in his combat training from an early age, and quickly began rising through the ranks of the militia as he entered into his mid-teens. His brother, who had already outgrown him in size by then, did not have the same natural talent, and became resentful of the praise often offered Nasir that he did not get, even from their father. This resulted in several heated verbal, and then physical fights between the boys, the latter of which usually ended up either being broken up by onlookers or with Adar’s ass in the dirt. This culminated in a nasty brawl when Nasir was eighteen and a half that nearly left him half-blind. Adar lost control, his blade swinging wildly at Nasir’s face. It left a scar that ran from above his eyebrow, where it would have bisected his eye if it were any closer, and down through his cheek.

Adar left the militia after that, and the brothers didn’t speak again until their father died during a conflict when Nasir was almost twenty. The death brought the brothers back together, and the two put the past behind them. They were never as close as they had been as boys, but their love for one another had survived their separation, and they were firmly on a path to healing their relationship. Adar re-joined the militia, and resigned himself to a lower status as Nasir stepped in as leader in his father’s stead. He lead many successful battles over the next year along the Syrian border, until the one that took his brother’s life, and many among the militia.

It was a brutal fight, and they’d been under prepared. Nasir’s militia was well-known by then, and the Romans recognized Nasir as the leader. They decided to take him alive if possible. It took three of them and a sword through his chest to bring Nasir down. His wound was cauterized with a sword (same location as in Vengeance), he was thrown onto a slave cart, and eventually sold to a ludus (Batiatus’ ludus or another, dependent on thread), after the slave merchant convinced the owner of the ludus Nasir was worth the coin if his wound was properly tended.

Once healed enough to throw him into training, he was underestimated by many of the men in the ludus, including the dominus. While he was still recovering and he had not regained his full strength, Nasir could not prove them wrong right away. Weeks in, when one of the gladiators (Gnaeus, if in Batiatus’ ludus) made attempt to rape him, however, Nasir fought back and gouged the gladiator’s eyes out with his thumbs. Had the fight gone longer, he would have parted cock from body, but it was broken up. The now-blind gladiator was sent to the mines. Nasir was sent to the pits.

But he did not die horribly as punishment for damaging his dominus’ property, which Nasir assumed was the intention. Instead, he won his fights, over and over. Sometimes just barely, but he kept winning, the added danger and adrenaline helping him to force his still-healing body to work harder that it should have been able to. When he simply refused to die, time and time again, eventually his dominus recognized his worth and resumed allowing him to train in the ludus again. He could replace the gladiator he’d sent to the mines, and maybe even be more profitable. Nasir wanted nothing more than to burn the ludus to the ground, Rome with it, but he eventually earned the mark of the gladiator, and bided his time until freedom could be taken back.

“Argh, dammit!” Flayn shouted inside the recording cabin before signalling at the sound engineer to cut the recording.

The track they were working on was part of an experiment that both rappers thought was at least worth trying out. It all started with a pair of tweets.

@CallMeRapDevil tweeted out: “I have the utmost respect for Akali, but I’d be more than happy to teach her how to properly do a double time.”

@KDA_MUSIC tweeted out: “Wow, rude. You wanna back that up, then?”

Those posts ended up igniting a war between both artists, each one claiming to be better than the other in any possible aspect; lyrics, vocalization, speed, even going as far as to insult each others’ clothing style.

Except, of course, this was nothing more than a ruse.

Their entire plan was to have a “Public feud” in order to hype up both of their fanbases and get them talking and discussing. Then, when the iron was red hot, release both their collaboration single and the music video that would accompany it without any sort of announcement in which they’d both duke it out in a rap battle. The MV itself would involve an (Obviously choreographed) actual fistfight just to sell it all better.

There was no bad blood involved at all; they were both entertainers, looking to do exactly that. Entertain their public with a story.

“This was such a good take too...” She said in annoyance. The part they were currently working on was, of course, the double time battle. They had co-written the lyrics and were now in the middle of recording the vocals, but at the very last verse Flayn messed up and mumbled instead. “Sorry ‘kali, that was my bad. You wanna go again or uh... Would you like to take a break? We’ve been at it for a couple of hours already.”

Have you ever had an OC that declares they want to play with a different fandom character? And not only are they reeeeally insistent on it, the other character ends up in your headspace as well encouraging it? So you try writing for them, cause why not, it's all fun and everything, and you don't necessarily have to SHARE that. Only for them to inform you, nah, it's not good enough, they want someone else to play the other fandom character. And you're more than a liiiittttle stuck?

TMI Tuesdays Anyone?

Curious to see if anyone would like to do this...I’ve seen a few people do it with their OCs and thought it’d be cool/fun to do? 

Mostly I’m bored and lonely with no life save writing. Plus I’m in a slump with every story I have and they will rot soon probably if I don’t get out of it soon (of course it’s my own damn fault for burning my hands but...).

And I like writing in characters...so that could be an option too...
