RQG 91: Sasha meets a drunk at a Damascus bar. He’s having a down day. By @phenomenice. Image ID: A shaded marker drawing of Howard Carter (left) and Sasha (right). Howard has light hair and a moustache and is wearing a jacket and scarf. Sasha is wearing a dark coat and light shirt. Both are looking off to the right. Sasha has dark circles under her eyes. The background is an indistinct bar with a door and tables.
it deeply entertains me that hamid will always try talking to someone first-- but if they refuse to listen for long enough, or he makes the snap decision that they’re in the wrong, he jumps from ‘we can work this out!’ to ‘i cast magic missile/fireball the door down/burn his face off’ with basically zero warning.
beneath the people-pleasing cute halfling exterior there’s this remarkably quickly-triggered undercurrent of pyromaniacal-- dare i say draconic-- fury, and it’s amazing.
so tell me: is it azzop or grizu?
and with that bombshell of an ending, the salehs are now 2/2 on making me think ‘huh, maybe you’re not as much of an asshole as i thought’ with a single phrase.
i initially was like how do you kill someone accidentally? at saleh junior’s story and figured he was being blackmailed by barrett rather than owning up, and im sure there’s an element of that, but the fact that he was doing it for the promise of a resurrection-- presumably in the knowledge that whoever he killed would know what he’d done and might come after him-- turned me around.
i reserve the right to decide either of them are assholes after all bc there’s definitely some sketchiness going on-- what didn’t hamid notice about saleh jr.’s account of the murder? was he mind controlled? was it less than perfectly accidental? and didn’t saleh sr have some dealings with barret as well? are those relevant?-- but they’ve both earned a few ‘decent person’ points back.

Even Alex is lampshading the chipper opening Vs all the pain They open with a laugh because it will hurt more later when I'm not braced And back to the Salehs Hamid is at the point of firing warning shots at Sr and he still won't stop for an actual conversation Hamid jumps on the back of his carriage. I love the implied backstory of how much of this Hamid has had to deal with all his life, that he is this done with indulging it Sasha found a nice dive bar the locals favor that feels like home If this leading to a djinn/gin pun... Ben is alarmed Sasha didn't take a coin from an unconscious man. Lydia has to explain that there is no temptation to steal when it's that easy. Sr is going to the bank that Jr robbed Sr is a jerk, just give your son 5 minutes; did you even bother getting the context (Hamid has dealt with Barrett before, Jr was ordered to do the robbery)? World building always cheers me up. Are the Salehs hanging around much longer? because I might need an abbreviation for Screw Saleh Is that a plot hook or just more guilt about breaking the world? Players are betting on it being a historical figure Neither Azu nor Grizzop have any knowledge local, so I just picture them with tourist written on their foreheads, you know those people who have an aura of wearing a fanny pack even if they try to dress like the locals. Place bets on them getting drunk and mugged now S3 (screw Saleh Sr) Hamid wants to cast fireball at the door in a Meritocratic bank Hamid casts invisibility which has some symbolism as his father refuses to see him in any sense S3 he wants the murder covered up Thanks for the scene switch Alex, before I hurt my hand trying to reach through the internet to slap Sr "I love Azu" is another phrase I am probably using often enough to use an acronym but she deserves it written out every time Players are just ripping the idea of evil races Ah, a quiche joke Grizzop is going to be killed trying to reassure the patrons he isn't here for them I will count this as winning my bet on them getting mugged Sasha is resigned about the lack of high places to hide Ben is having fun but I am worried about Grizzop. Told you all Alex needed to do to land some damage is split the party Azu is so much better a tank than Bertie Lampshades tonal whiplash Good for them for standing up to Sr Wait does Sr actually care beyond reputation? He is trying to bribe them to let him take the blame? God I love how instead of playing power games with Alex like James or Bryn (not mean, I think it's how men bond), Ben just occasionally says something to remind them that if he wanted to play that way, he would win. What level of GM stress is Alex referring to himself in the third person? Wait did Hamid get his hug this episode!?!
