i do think the negative interpretations of "im probably nonbinary but i have a job right now" are kind of reaching. it's obviously a waste of time to theorize the op's intended meaning, so instead i think it's better to recognize how the phrase can be a useful framing device to criticize how much of a fucking hassle it is to get gendered correctly. "but i have a job" e.g. will face discrimination that could threaten livelihood; e.g. don't have the mental bandwidth to explain gender to others; e.g. don't have the time and energy for the soul-searching necessary to confirm. all three of these are labor issues. yes you could interpret it as "but being nonbinary isn't important enough to worry about", despite that being a blatantly bad-faith read. it's more useful to interpret it as "but being publicly nonbinary requires a lot of social effort that, in many cultural contexts, will create more problems that you can't afford to deal with". like cmon it's a really good jumping off point for productive conversations about queer labor rights

Perhaps this is an obnoxious take on my part, but video games should, above all things, prioritize the ability of being paused. At any point. Regardless of whether it's during a cutscene, a special animation, or a time-based puzzle. You never know when you're gonna get a phone call, or someone will need you in another room, or you get a sudden urge to go to the bathroom, or you hear your cat licking plastic, or whatever. Other entertainment mediums like books, movies, and music can be paused whenever you want. Why do some games not give you the same luxury??

Hal and Thaisha are not divorced. I definitely thought so at the start of the campaign, but by the time we get the end of the Conference, it's clear to me that they aren't. for one thing, they were never married so in a literal sense they can't be divorced. but more to the spirit of what people mean when they call them divorced, I personally don't believe Hal and Thaisha's romantic relationship ever ended. she still has a designated room at his house despite having a family home in the same city. they still canonically sleep together. and throughout the Convergence we can see how deeply they still love each other, through words and actions. I can understand why people assume they're divorced/broken up. their relationship decidedly functions very differently from what is average and conventional. if I had to put specific terms to it, I'd call it a long-distance open relationship. but that feels rather clinical and like an attempt to shove it into an easily understood digestible box, which seems silly to do considering they're a completely different species with a completely different culture from a completely different world. whatever the case, I love the two of them and what they share for its unique view of what romance can look like. and I'm excited to see how their relationship develops, as well as their individual relationships with other characters

has anyone noticed that after the porn ban of 2018 tumblr was essentially killed from the mainstream and everyone flocked to other social media sites like twitter and meta. then those sites got enshittified to where twitter became Nazi Central and meta sites had an entire meme around getting “zucced” aka mark zuckerberg himself would ban you for saying a no-no word like fuck. and then the mainstream shifted to tiktok where infamous toddlerspeak sentences like “he got unalived by a pew pew” were born because if you once again say a no-no word like kill or gun or any other word that isn’t corporate i mean kid friendly then the algorithm will bury your post into the ground. and somehow we’ve come full circle and tumblr is now the most bearable social media site because although we can’t have female presenting nipples we can at least talk to each other like adults. has anyone noticed that at all or is it just me and the flaming skull

I know the ep got posted a small while ago but the decision by Liam O'Brien to use the phrase "defang our play" just has so many layers

There's a top three

Firstly, just the phrase itself is incredible- the way the candescent creed is trying to disarm the minds of dol makjar by taking the fangs out of a play and molding it to their story

Secondly, the fact that Hal's last name is Fang ties in so well to how the candescent creed's "notes" gutted his story like a fish and completely got rid of the heritage that he has as a Runjani

Thirdly, the way it also shows the other Fang, Thjazi, and his rebellion and personality being erased with what was probably a big historical source of hope for him as well as the ways that his story and murder were mirrored in the play being taken out, completing the half of the defanging with his brother just goes down so smooth

The choice to portray both the attempted suppression of Halandil Fang's history and also the effort to take away the tools for rebellion by using a play on words like defang is just so

brennan did mention that orc surnames, because of orcish history under azgra, are similar to chinese surnames where you've got like 5 family names that almost everyone has, unique surnames are rarer - and he listed fang claw and blade as some of those really common names. for a play like this, about orc history in an orc city, that sold out it's 10,000 seat theatre, you can guarantee there would have been more fangs in the audience!

i know what orcs have are considered more tusks than fangs, but if we're gonna talk defanging both literal and metaphorical in an attempt to turn an orc play human, then we can also talk about literally trying to take its teeth away

Shoutout to characters that are both genuinely deeply kind and also genuinely terrifying and willing to spill buckets worth of blood to get something done. And neither of these are an act, they're just both very true.

Brennan’s NPC game is always on point but he’s done such a fantastic job with Lady Aranessa.

Somehow she’s perfectly balancing the idea of “fine lady of a noble house of Fairie” with “the woman that would fall in love with war hero and known troublemaker Thjazi Fang” AND “just lost her whole family to a Games of Thrones-esque horror show betrayal ”.

Like yes she’s polite and kind, but she also bit a ghoul to free herself after watching a young man be brutally murdered five feet from her. She’s willing to jump off a cliff if a Druid meeting goes bad, but still mourns the opportunity to sleep in a big fancy bed. She can summon flower petals at will and then rubs them under her arms.

I’m obsessed with her. Thjazi Fang you were a LUCKY man.
