On My Way Out || rrose--tylerr

Every life had it's ups and downs. What you chose to make of those finer details, could ultimately define  who you are, or who you would be. For the Doctor, who's name was actually John, it had so far proved a challenge, but it wasn't anything he couldn't handle.

He's happy, very happy. Living in a flat in London with his long time partner of two years, Rose Tyler. And she's everything. Smart, patient, talented-- Just brilliant to him.  While they live simple, with a couple of small jobs to pay the bills, the city offers more than enough adventure.

So far he'd been cancer free for a year. And it was liberating to be so-- clean. Being out of the hospital was wonderful. Since Doctor's appointments had gone back to a somewhat regular schedule the Doctor had been saving that extra money here and there when he could over that year. Because his little job at the bike shop, was going to help him make good on the woman he loves. He was planning to propose.

But as it had done and as it will do. Life seemed to turn. Bring him off course. And he felt so guilty because he'd lied about it. Because he didn't want to believe in it. He'd told Rose everything had been fine. That he wouldn't have to go back for at least another month. When he'd gone for a monthly check-up at the doctor's and they'd confirmed. His cancer was back, and it was bad.

That had been about a week ago, and now he wanted to work to be okay. He wanted to have some fun, and be with Rose. He had plans.

                   "Hey," He calls across the room, walking up behind her. Leaning over the back of the sofa, gaze flicking over what she's reading, he suggests. "Let's go somewhere today, let have an adventure."

However when he spoke his smile, didn't quite spark in the right places.

"NO!!"

The Doctor was wincing. He’d only just found her again. And then it was over. How many times would they play this game? None. An assassin with special poison. No more regenerations. They were blocked. They’d made it clear. Her life. For his. For good.

"Rose Tyler." The Doctor put on a brave face. "You were worth it."

And then he fell.

Burning Up a Sun || rrose--tylerr

  He didn't quite know how he did it.

  The TARDIS was drifting through deep space, and he was standing at the door, staring down at a white dwarf, nearing the end of its life. Waiting for the moment it would collapse into a supernova, he was beginning to question his own existence. The console room was empty now - there was no one left. None of his companions, none of his friends.

  And then, very suddenly, the TARDIS gave a great lurch, and he toppled back inside as the star began to implode. Clinging to the console for dear life, he let the police box ride out the supersonic blasts, not even thinking about where they might end up.

  He certainly wasn't expecting this.

  It was Bad Wolf Bay - of that, he was sure. But was it his own universe? Or perhaps a particular parallel universe? He tried not to get his hopes up, but it was so hard not to think of Rose at that moment. Before he could even berate himself for thinking it, he punched in a few coordinates and headed for London. If this was really the right universe, she would be there.
