                    This wasn’t her usual protocol but she found                     her mouth wasn’t always linked to her mind.                     Honestly, sometimes she worried it wanted                     to go solo. “The Doctor” had done pretty                     well in bringing that out so far.

     He was still sceptical, but whether she      believed him or not, she was trying. And      who was he to deny her that?

          "The TARDIS might — she might be putting up a             perception filter, just for you. She isn't happy with             you being in here, at least. Having a tantrum.             Happens sometimes. Try looking out of the corner             of your eyes, that might do the trick."

          "Me? I haven't had a decent cup of            tea and a Jammie Dodger in, oh—"

          "—three days. And you, you're acting            funny. Weird. More than usual. Are            you hiding something?

              ❝ John … what do you see? Tell me, what can you                   see right now.❞

        This was where she could see his good opinion of her potentially fall in an instant. Clara was determined to get through to him unlike all of the people who’d tried before her.

              ❝ I’m having a bit of trouble understanding this all.           I need you to describe it to me and help me see what you see.❞

     He saw his console room. He saw      flickering lights, and flashing colours

     — and she saw nothing. The Doctor      could tell, now, that she really was just      another of the humans keeping him here.

          "You don't believe me, do you? You think I'm a madman."

"Always the funny man, aren’t you Doctor," the Master spat out his name, as he folded over his arms and took a glance at Clara, "and always messing about with poor little Earth girls. Will you ever learn?"

The Master took a step forward, then opened his arms and beckoned them forward.

"Now dear there will be plenty of time to explain all of this to you on the way to my ship, you remember my ship, don’t you? I helped design it. The Valiant!" The Master laughed as he mockingly continued."Oh… but if two Doctor’s are both on the Valiant, then that would create a paradox, how would we fix that? Oh, how about another paradox machine!?"

His arm moved back to point them in the direction of the TARDIS that was now being taken away.

"Come quietly, it always makes things hurt less, don’t you think?"

The Master clasped his hands and grinned.

The Doctor's gaze was fixed on the Master's beady stare, trying not to give away how desperate he was to figure out a solution. Stepping aboard the Valiant was something he probably wouldn't be able to avoid, but he very much wanted to keep Clara out of it. Given her own personal timeline, messing around with it even more would only create chaos.

"I'll come, but you answer my question first. How did we get here, and where is here? When?" 

His past self might currently be incapacitated, and Martha was probably already halfway around the world, but Jack might be there. And he needed all the help he could get, regardless.

"You should be careful. I know how this ends, you know. I've seen what happens to you, Harold Saxon."
