What are your thoughts on the Pascal dragon episode in season 3? I saw in an ask that you did not care for this episode, why was that? I thought it had potential if it actually focused more on Nigel and Rapunzel being at odds and having a minor clash of power (the castle guards willfully listening to Nigel over Rapunzel was interesting) than on just Pascal and the baby dragon. Personally I think this episode felt like it should have been in season 1.
I believe I mentioned that I also think the episode would have worked out better in season episode. It would have been a nice little highlight to flesh out Nigel’s role early on while potentially teaching Rapunzel some aspects of the responsibility that comes with being a member of the royal family. Plus it wouldn’t be so jarring to have it disrupt the season that is arguably the most story drive with a random dragon plot that’s never brought up again.
Admittedly though, it’s placement isn’t my only issue with Pascal’s Dragon. I’m not too keen with the idea of giving the animal companion an animal companion. Plus with Nigel’s past experiences from when dragons invaded his hometown, it’s another instance when the show sort of hand waves trauma that they went out of their way to establish for SOME reason. Not to mention how much it bugged me how the premise of the whole episode only started because Rapunzel thought Pascal liking a random warm orb was grounds enough to keep it instead of sending it back like Nigel advised. It just seemed like another instance of the show making Rapunzel unintentionally act very selfish and not properly getting called out for her behavior.
Also, I’m somewhat convinced that the close to the only reason Pascal’s Dragon existed was for that one shot of Rapunzel riding on the dragon.
Someone help me out describing the noise Pascal makes. The closest thing I can think of is “squeaking” but I don’t think that really does it justice. What do other people use?
