In case anyone’s wondering where I’ve been …

I spent a long time keeping off Tumblr because not everyone tags spoilers and I can’t watch new Miraculous Ladybug episodes until there’s an English dub released. (My brain can’t process subtitles, unfortunately.)

I didn’t enter the online MLB fandom until after I’d managed to see all of season three, so season four’s release was a new experience for me. I had not anticipated it taking that long for all the episodes to come out. And thanks to an oversight by myself on when one of the episodes were released (which resulted in me waiting weeks for one without knowing it was already available on Disney+), followed by personal life stuff getting in the way of taking time to re-watch the episodes and do any posting … I’ve basically been pretty much absent from Tumblr for about a year.

And now I find out that season five has just started airing. *facepalm*

New resolution. I am not going to avoid Tumblr, just my feed. I’m obviously going to have to accompany any theories I post with the disclaimer that I’m not up to date and asking people not to spoil me. I’d thought about doing that during season four’s airing but never did.

Talking of theories, there’s one I’ve been itching to post about for months … I’ll get on that soon …

I’ve been working a lot on my MLB fanfic the last few weeks. I’ve still got post-season two, never mind post-season three, fics that are still not ready to post yet. I have a tendency towards complicated plots and too many projects at once because plot bunnies breed out of control which creates more story ideas. I need to have a serious priority setting session.

Season four is still in this mulling over period in my brain. I can have weird emotional reactions to new canon. At some point I’ll try to get together a coherent and more objective reaction post. Got to do a full season rewatch first.

RIP Bernard Cribbins

Doctor Who is one of my oldest fandoms, though I’ve never posted here for it until today. I was so saddened to hear the news of Bernard Cribbins’ passing this week.

I’ve not seen the wonderful Mr Cribbins in many other things, though I’ve always enjoyed him in what I have seen/heard, but Wilfred Mott is one of my favourite characters of all time and became kind of a grandpa figure to me. Bernard Cribbins really brought the character to life in so many ways. I briefly met him at LFCC many years ago, which is a memory I will cherish forever.

I haven’t cried properly yet—think I’m still processing—but I know I will be sobbing the next time I watch End of Time and when the 60th anniversary airs.

The relationship between Wilf and the Doctor is my favourite of all in Doctor Who, and has inspired so much fanfiction, so in honour of the wonderful actor who portrayed him, I want to share a small piece I wrote a few years ago called The Doctor’s Dad for anyone who loves them as much as I do and hasn’t read it yet. I’ve just shed a few tears re-reading it.

The rest of the aforementioned fanfic Wilf and Ten inspired me to write is mostly not yet published (what else is new), but I have a couple of additional Wilf-and-Ten-centric fics on Teaspoon which aren’t yet on AO3. (One’s still a WIP.)

I vow to dedicate the next Wilf-centric fic I post to Bernard Cribbins’ memory. Not sure which it will be or when, but I’ll announce it on here.

You can respond directly and publicly to anonymous comments. Ones such as this:

The best I could do was posting a review myself making it clear that the answer was no, and update the summary to make it clear the fic had not been abandoned.

I did do a search on Wattpad, and no story with the title came up, so (unless it’s been posted with a different title) at least that means the person didn’t take my silence in the month since the question was posed as affirmative and already do it. (I have got to get back into a regular habit of checking that inbox ...)

If anyone finds my MLB fic Mistletoe and Momentous Moments (or its prequel one-shot Poorliness and Proper Parenting) posted anywhere other than FFNet and AO3, or under a penname other than Alexannah, please let me know immediately. (But please don’t report until I’ve had the chance to screenshot any reviews it got ;))

Just to clarify, there is an account on Wattpad with the username alexannah, but that’s not me. I didn’t try to get an account until one of my other MLB fics was posted there by someone else and found the name had already been taken. However they have no stories posted, and I’m not currently planning on posting any fanfiction there. I will announce here if that changes to avoid any confusion.

I should also note that some of my completed fanfictions have been/are being translated and posted in various places by the translators, so if you come across a translation of one of my fics it’s not necessarily plagiarised (unless I’m not credited as the original author, in which case check with me first to see if it’s one I approved).

My Experience of MLB

I hope this timeline might help anyone who got a bit confused by my rambly pinned post.

2018 – Discovered season one on Netflix UK. At the time that was all there was available there. Went to google, discovered there was more, tried to find a way to watch the episodes, ran into spoilers, stopped.

Summer 2019 – On a trip to the States, discovered season two on Netflix US. Watched the whole thing during visit. Started getting fanfic ideas. Did googling and discovered part of season three had aired. Found site with all aired episodes available to watch.

Rest of 2019 – Watched new episodes as they were released, eager for the season to finish so I could get into the online fandom. Fanfiction writing frenzy!

November 2019 – Finally saw the season three finale. Online fandom debut.

2020-2021 – Enjoyed being part of the MLB community on Tumblr. Found my niche within it. Had very steep learning curve. Actually finished a multi-chapter fanfiction. Really got into the incorrect quotes thing to the point that some of the ones I do practically turn into novels.

2021 – Season four started airing. I started avoiding Tumblr to not stumble into untagged spoilers because I have to wait for the English dub for each episode (my brain can’t process subtitles) and I wanted to watch them in order. Had no idea I’d be gone this long. I also got a theory the moment I saw Shadow Moth which I’ve been itching to post about ever since.

Month before last – Finally finished watching season four because I was waiting for Kuro Neko to appear on the Discord server without realising it was already on Disney+. Kicked myself for being an idiot.

Since then – RL got in way of rewatching the season and coming back to Tumblr

Yesterday – Discovered season 5 has started airing. Resolved to just avoid my feed rather than Tumblr altogether in future. Resolved to rewatch season 4 asap. Started despairing about the number of my unfinished and unposted fanfics …

MLB New Episodes HELP!

I haven’t seen the Shanghai special or any of season four yet. (I’m deliberately avoiding my Tumblr feed because I expect it will be flooded with untagged spoilers, so I have no idea how many episodes have actually aired yet; I know at least one.) Unfortunately I wasn’t organised enough to get air details before new stuff actually aired and now I’m afraid of running into spoilers.

Since I don’t have access to any of the channels they’re shown on and can’t wait until they appear on Disney+ UK (which based on prior experience is probably several months away), I normally watch episodes online first, but the site I used to watch them on has disappeared, and Watch Cartoon Online hasn’t been updated since the end of season three.

It’s occurred to me that the English dub hasn’t been aired yet. I’m really bad with subtitles (just can’t follow them and the action at the same time), and my French level is still beginner, so I need to watch them in English first.

My questions:

1.       What has aired in English so far, if anything?

2.       Where can I watch the English dubs? (Other than Youtube.)

3.       When are all the English dubs airing? Is there a list available somewhere?

4.       I’m not sure if the special comes before season four, as I think the first episode aired before it. But then I also know that air dates are not reliable for this show! But can someone clarify whether I watch the Shanghai special first? I don’t want to assume and accidentally spoil myself for whichever I should have watched first!

PS: I have deliberately avoided all spoilers and info about season four; I’d rather experience it without knowing anything that might happen in it. So if you link to something which has e.g. a detailed episode description, please mention that so I’m forewarned!

Unfortunately, still looking for somewhere I can see the episode order without any episode descriptions. Tried googling and ran away fast. I already think I may have been slightly spoiled by looking at the episode images on miraculous.to. (Will be more careful in future.)

The site doesn’t number episodes, and though three are up, I know now that the third one is actually #6. I’d rather wait till I can see 3, 4 and 5 before I watch that one. I suppose whoever makes the decisions about what order to air them in would be unlikely to do so in a way that spoils everyone for an unaired episode (I hope), but I like to see character arcs play out the way they’re supposed to.

I guess this is the frustration of this fandom. I only entered it (online) after seeing the season three finale so I’m still figuring this how-to-watch-a-new-season-thing out!

Fic Plagiarised

My attention has been drawn to the fact that someone has posted my fic The Gabenath Shipper Project on Wattpad, claiming it as theirs.

This isn’t the first time I’ve been plagiarised, though last time it was a matter of someone duplicating one of my fics on FFnet under their account. I copied and pasted all the reviews it had got when I reported it, so when the story was taken down I could keep a record of the feedback.

I didn’t have a Wattpad account until just now and it looks a bit more complicated than that. Ideally I’d like to be able to have the ownership of the fic transferred to the account I’ve just created. (Unfortunately the username alexannah has already been taken, so I’ve gone for alexannahsfanfiction.) But looking at all their support stuff on reporting copyright violation I’m not sure if that’s an option. Has anyone been through this before? There’s so much interaction on the fic, I don’t want to lose that. Or the fact that it’s been rated #2 in fics tagged Gabenath!

I paused just now to read through the rest of the comments now I have an account. The happy feeling is (hopefully temporarily) being steamrollered over by indignation at the cheek of the “author” thanking the readers who are complimenting “their” work. I am going to resist the urge to comment on every single instance pointing out that I am the original author and providing the AO3 link to prove it because that is not the way to handle it. I’m going to go to Wattpad first—once I’ve figured out how to raise the issue. I’ll screenshot all the comments before doing so, so that if it does just get deleted, I’ve got the records, and maybe can contact the users to let them know what happened.

Additional complication in that there’s artwork on the fic and it’s not mine; I’m sure I’ve seen at least one of them elsewhere so that may well be plagiarised too.

Another additional complication in that I don’t know how to prove that I am the original author. I can prove that it’s posted elsewhere under a different name years previously, but obviously I’d have to prove it was mine in order to get it transferred to my account if that’s something they can do. Didn’t have this issue when my other fic was posted on the same site! Both my Wattpad and AO3 accounts are under the same email address, so maybe that’s how? Wow this is so complicated.

Any advice?

I absolutely love and would love to live in a real San Fransokyo! Being born in and growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area, and having spent time in Tokyo, just the melding of the two is brilliant and beautiful! It’s a meshing of cultures that works well and is feasible!

On another note, I really wished in Kingdom Hearts 3 they put more into San Fransokyo a la GTA style. Get to explore and have things to do in San Fransokyo long after you’ve completed the main story. That would’ve been a blast and more replay value for an awesome level.

The Fujitas were cut villains from the movie but one of them has appeared from time to time.

She’s pretty much known as the Ringleader but nobody really knows her name or any of their names for that matter, I have however seen multiple fan created names including Yoko, Junko, Kayo, Ginhko, Chikako, Hisa and all sorts but I wanted to know what you would refer to them as?

Not only that but which designs your prefer from the concept art?

I like the left one better, but I can appreciate the art style of the right. As for names, I know they didn’t get any, and I didn’t even know they had this much of a fandom.

If I had to give them names, I’d go with (from left to right) Kasey (from Kasa, japanese for umbrella) May Sue (from Mesu, Japanese for Mace) and Tess (from Tessen, the metal fans used in martial arts).  I like the idea of them renouncing their actual names for their weapon of choice when they get initiated into the gang.

I love the potential for these characters and I was still hoping they would appear in the series! They’ve appeared in several chapters of one of my fics.

I ultimately chose the left design as the basis for their appearance, with the middle one being the youngest sister who acts as their leader. Her name being Akane, and she even flirts or has a crush on Hiro’s undercover villain disguise, Dokuro. Much to his discomfort.

The tall one is Miss Midori, she is the most serious amongs them and is always excited for a good fight.

The one of on the right is Fujiko. She’s more fun loving and free spirited among the sisters.

And I definitely won’t be forgetting these villains in my future works… these guys have been forgotten since the very beginning lol

 *Spoilers for “The Mascot Upshot”*

One of the things that’s been bothering me since seeing the episode is that Hiro made mention during the final battle with NBB and his family is that he made a deal with Momakase for her assistance.

But what was the deal? Were they referencing the fact that he helped her get the family swords back in “Hiro the Villain”?  On the surface, it would make sense; the deal between them came as a shock to both the villains and the rest of the team, which weren’t around at the time of the backstory being told.  But wouldn’t Hiro have told them after the fact? And someone brought up an interesting point on the BH6 TvTropes forum: why is Momakase even in town still?  She could probably do much better at the thieving if she just moved to a new city?  What is keeping her in San Fransokyo? The conspiracy theorist in me says that Hiro made a new deal with her.  For what…I don’t know. Maybe she wanted something that only Hiro could get for her.

Or maybe she just wanted her record clean.

Or…maybe there was something else.

See, this is what happens when you’re trying to write a story and you rewatch the episodes to get more insight and your brain starts wandering.

And it is also for this reason why I didn’t think her appearance in the 4 2 Sing musical battle was canon lol. I would’ve imagined some kind of temporary truce or cease of hostilities between BH6 and herself.

I loved her appearance, love the idea of Mommykase and Hiro having an odd working relationship between them. But I had to agree with you that her appearance and reference to a favor being odd.

She could certainly move but it did seem like she ran her own organization or syndicate, as she did have lackeys under her during her food fight matches. Perhaps she just lightly maintains operations?

I don’t know, there does seem to be more that can be read into the situation than what the writers intended, I imagine. Which I’m cool with, I like Mommykase-Hiro dynamic as a welcome surprise that episode.

Odd plot holes to dig into that probably were meant to dug into and taken at face value are fun… For instance, I have my own headcanon to be revealed in an art piece on why a masterful thief with Silent Sparrow teleportation tech like Sirque could possibly be arrested… and not just I give her a plot relevant alibi to rule her out as a suspect for Gogo the Woweroo episode. (I mean come on… she literally would be one of the most difficult people to arrest by conventional law enforcement…)

This season has small holes that were meant for face value watching that can still be woven into stories lol. Momakase is definitely one of them.

Oh, Momakase is the most mysterious one of them all.  And I have a (outlandish) theory as to her background and possible future. But it’s too crazy.  It literally is not true.  This theory, unlike the others I had, is too weird to be true. …Unless…

Weird timing—as I found this thread, I was drafting a post analysing Momakase’s line about owing Hiro a favour on the assumption that she was referring to Hiro the Villain events, and what it might say about her character that she felt like she still owed him even after leading the police away from them at the end of the episode.

I’m now thinking maybe it was a hint to a plotline that was meant to be part of the original season 3. I’m new to the fandom so I don’t know all the details of how that went down, but from what I’ve gathered, season 3 was initially planned to be more like the first two seasons. It could be that there was meant to be a Momakase and Hiro plotline which had to be scrapped, and her appearance in TMU would have been the climax of that plotline.

As someone for whom HTV is her favourite episode and has already started planning several Momakase and Hiro team-up fanfics (seriously, I cannot find any out there! If someone knows of one please send me a link!), I really mourn the loss of more canon material for that dynamic. I really do love a lot of season three and it was nice to have some lighter, more “everyday” episodes, but I would definitely have preferred them to be done in addition to the stuff that was initially planned.

I’ll probably post the analysis anyway once I’ve finished it, because this is all speculation anyway, and interesting to dig into, especially since the writers could have worked it a little differently to avoid that ambiguity and yet didn’t, so the canonical end result is ambiguous.

This season has small holes that were meant for face value watching that can still be woven into stories lol. Momakase is definitely one of them.

When Yama sends his goons to capture Hiro, Mommykase arrives to protect him by providing him with his sonic wave gauntlet. Holding him up by his hood like a kitten to dodge around the assailants, the boy smugly makes short work of the goons.

Just a funny thought that came to mind, I just really enjoy the Mommykase and Hiro dynamic lol!
