Name’s Quill Royce- Commonwealth Minutemen.. but you already know me. I was one of the three survivors of Vault 111.

That guy? That’s Sterling Steele, one of the other people who lived in Sanctuary Hills before the bombs fell, he lived in the middle of town with his wife Nora. Poor guy had his kid stolen and his wife killed.. we all saw it happen. Sometimes I wonder what happened to him. He built that teleporter thing to go to The Institute; He said his son was there.

And that lady? Her name is Ruby Hendrix. Ruby was my neighbor back in the day! We never talked much back then- but now we’re super good friends. She loves comics and video games just as much as I do! When I saw her in Goodneighbor one time she was even dressed up as The Silver Shroud- she.. really got into character.

Ruby used to be in The Brotherhood of Steel. I don’t get involved with them, and she doesn’t like to talk about it. She said they hated synths, even the ones that act and look like us. That was enough to get her to quit and join The Railroad.

The Minutemen and The Railroad have been working together; And I hope we can keep working together so everyone in the Commonwealth can have hope of a better future- even the synths.

I hope Sterling is okay, haven’t heard from him in a while. He’ll probably show up sooner or later.

So, on a bittersweet note, Sterling came back to Sanctuary to tell us about his journey so far.

He told us about how he got to meet his son, Shaun. Shaun is actually an older man now apparently, I guess we were temporarily woken from cryostasis that one time years ago before waking up for real.

Why is it bittersweet? Well, he wants to go stay at the Institute permanently. Shaun gave him a place to stay there- and Sterling wants to be around his son. He says Shaun isn’t doing well, so he wants to spend as much time with him as possible.

He spoke so highly of the Institute.. he said their tech is amazing and that they have a real shot at returning the world to the way it was before the bombs dropped; But how could an organization that steals and replaces people possibly be a good thing? Ruby and I tried to reason with him, but it was no good… It ended up in a huge argument between him, and Ruby and I.

I can’t believe it.. I actually treasured our journey together up until this point.. it’s hard to imagine that our paths would split like this. The Minutemen are still going to work with the Railroad, but I worry that someday the two of us will have to fight against the boogeyman of the Commonwealth together.

I’m sorry Sterling, but if worst comes to worst.. we’ll have to stop you. No matter how good their tech is, we can’t allow the people here be collateral damage.. I just won’t sit by and let that happen.
