In her first life, Ruby, then known as Rose, was born into a wealthy family and lived a rather luxurious life. While the rest of her family took advantage of the people and the peasants, she was part of the few who were actually kind to the poor. Despite her family’s wishes she would often distribute food and money to the poor working families, treating everyone well. Unfortunately, a rebellion against the bourgeoisie broke out. Naturally, her father, who had been part of the corrupt aristocracy was a target. During the raid in their home, she was killed in the fighting. Her second life, was radically different from this one. She was born into a poor merchant family, and her mother had died in childbirth.
It wasn’t a good time to be a women and very few jobs were actually available, Her father, who had been educated, tried his hardest to teach her whatever he knew, and a kind tutor took pity on her and taught her afterwards. Ruth, as she was known in this life, fell in love with everything she was learning. It was like liberation for her, and she was extremely intelligent because of her simple love for learning. She picked up on things fast, and while she helped out around the house, she often stayed up late reading, or studying more. It was like this that she became educated. She became a teacher and at the age of 22, she met the man she wanted to spend the rest of her life with. Hunter Redfern was a charming man who she was immediately drawn to. After a year together, they decided to get married and their life seemed to be perfect. After a few years of happiness, she found she was pregnant and gave birth to Delos. However, due to complications, Ruth almost died, and Hunter fed her his blood. It was this way that Ruth discovered the truth about her husband and despite her initial anger, she learned to accept him and loved him nonetheless.The small family moved back to a small part of London where Hunter’s mother was.
When they arrived at Hunter’s childhood home, they found the woman dead, and realized that hunters had killed her. They moved into this small neighborhood as Hunter was unable to forgive himself. Time went by and life seemed to fall into a routine. However, that all changed one night. When Hunter and Delos went out to the market, Ruth was left alone in the home and hunters came, threatening to kill her if she didn’t tell them where the other two had gone. Convincing them that she was the vampire and that her son and Hunter were completely unaware of the truth, she took a stake through the heart, dying instantly.
Her final life, known as Ruby, she was always an adventurous spirit. College was her time to explore and just have fun and that is just what she did. Still interested in teaching, she had gone into literature, to become an English teacher. At first her life seemed petty nice but then she made a mistake one night that led to a pregnancy that she was not ready for. At the age of 23, the product of a one night stand, Raksha Keller was born. Knowing that her daughter would have a better life elsewhere, Ruby gave her up for adoption, not knowing that she was in fact a shapeshifter. After that, it took some time but life started to get normal once more. That’s when Theo Jordan came into her life. The two were extremely passionate, madly in love. It was one of those rushed relationships where everything was always exciting. It was when she discovered that for a second time she was pregnant that they decided to get married. It was a quick thing, and after her second daughter, Rashel was born, Ruby found out the truth about her husband’s profession.
He was a hunter and though it took a lot of explaining, Ruby was willing to accept it for his sake. But 5 years after their wedding, one night he didn’t come home and she learned later that he had been killed by none other than Hunter Redfern. She learned this when she was also attacked, but rather than killing her as they were instructed to do, they had accidentally turned her instead. Not understanding what she had become, Ruby spent years trying to figure out how to control this insatiable thirst that she seemed to always have. As time went on, she started to learn more about Night World, occassionally hearing about Keller and The Cat (Rashel). She had no idea what her daughters had become, and stayed away from them, thinking herself to be a danger to them.
Present ;
Ruby didn’t really know much about Circle Daybreak or Soulmates but her memory of the Originals and the rebellion was wiped nonetheless. She remembers wanting to move to Pyro Hills to find her daughter, Keller. Though she doesn’t know what Keller looks like, she thinks that the girl is in this town, and that was what she was made to believe is the reason she is staying here. What she doesn’t know is that her other daughter is also here. And she is hunting the man who killed her husband but also the man who is her Soulmate. Ruby doesn’t really have an allegiance to either the Night World or Originals and definitely not to the Redferns. She is struggling still with being a vampire, having gotten no proper guidance as to how to control her hunger and she doesn’t want to hurt humans in the process of feeding which is what Ruby continues to struggle with.
Personality ;
Ruby is very talkative and is an eternal optimist. She sees the glass as always half full rather than half empty, and for her everything in life happens for a reason. At heart she is a helpless romantic, always was and always will be. There is always good in people in her opinion and she strives to find that good in people. Unlike her daughters, she has a very open and liberal view about the world, thinking there is always a silver lining. She loves passionately and devotes everything she has to her relationships, willing to sacrifice even herself.
