Looked back at my partially annotated copy of thg to see what I had written before sotr came out and was hit with this banger on the first page of chapter nine right after Haymitch tells Katniss that Peeta has requested to be trained separately, specifically in refrence to the line “…was there some part of me that couldn’t help trusting him?”
“There’s something so beautiful about Peeta being the first person since she met Gale that she trusts even if it’s just a subconscious thing. Peeta is safety; he is trust she cannot help but have because he was there when she realized she was no longer doomed. He is the reason that she had the strength to keep going both figuratively and literally.”
And I know people talk about this A TON, trust, but genuinely there really IS something so beautiful about her always having this trust for him buried under the guilt she had for never thanking him for the bread. UGH!!! THE EVERLARK OF IT ALL!!!
