Homeworld Era and Season 2-5 Ruby and Sapphire ^_^
I like the idea of the Rubies looking a bit more aggressive as they’re designed for combat, which would juxtapose better with their sweet and silly personalities hehe. Also, cool space hotpants for Ruby.
I gave them both less fingers because.. aliens.
I didn’t change too much with Sapphire, but I did make her hair look more cloudy, I do wish some of the gem designs leaned more into their kinda elemental properties, but I am just obsessed with elemental characters!!
I don't watch RWBY, I kind feel like I'm trespassing here-
I've only seen the first two volumes and that was a while ago so I hardly remember shit.
But like. I saw this youtuber a little while ago post a video where they critiqued a shit ton of Team RWBY redesigns their fans had done and I was like "I wanna do that, that sounds fun" and then I lost interest immediately after I finished designing Ruby.
And that was a couple months ago or something, maybe longer.
But here it is. Have at it.
Next, we have Ruby and Sapphire’s redesign. I’m putting them in the same post because if I did separate posts for them those two posts would be really short.
So, I changed Ruby into a pyrope garnet! Now the main reason why I changed her into a garnet is that her being a ruby didn't make sense. Rubies and sapphires are both the same gemstone; ruby is red corundum and sapphire is any other color of corundum.
Red sapphires are a thing, but they are made by infusing a sapphire with beryllium and then being put under intense heat and pressure they cannot be made naturally. Rubies are corundum that has chromium impurities. Just wanted to share something I learned when I was reading about corundums. :)
With rubies and sapphires being literally the same gemstone, it doesn't make sense for them to be so far apart on the gem hierarchy. To me, it makes more sense for rubies to be more elite guards/commanders. So, I decided to change Ruby into a garnet because garnets are less valuable then corundums and they are lower on the moh’s scale of hardness. I decided to go with a pyrope garnet specifically because pyropes are heavily associated with fire, and that matches up to her fire powers.
I also used Garnet’s original color pallet because of how well it matched up with pyrope garnets.
Fun Fact: Sapphire gave her the nickname Poppy (like the flower).
This is Sapphire! Lol, there wasn’t much to change because I felt like the gemstone fit her and that the only thing that needed to be changed was her colors.
Fun fact: Her nickname is Cornflower (since cornflower sapphire is a very popular variation of sapphire)

garnets redesign fucking Killed me.
like. i have no idea why that redesign was so hard. every time i tried to think of what to do, i just drew a perpetual blank. probably because i held myself to such tight constraints of what i wanted it to look like, instead of what i thought garnet would wear.
i also realized that redesigning sapphire and ruby first would help, too. :9
a nyway ill start out with ruby
not much in the way of palette change for her, or any of them here. i was already pretty satisfied with their colours tbqh.
anyway, i wanted to make her stand out more from homeworld rubies. because the only real different between them was like... headband and the shape of their shirt.
so i decided to give her goggles, because.... i unno they just look really good :V
a bandage wrap on her arm, since shes supposed to be a warrior type gal, and a bit taller boots. and a jacket, with a star on her shirt.
sapphire came out really cute i think, but no where near as cute as ruby :9
i wanted to do more layering on her dress to look like a geode, but that wouldve been way too busy i feel
theres a hole in her glove to let her gem through,since seeing gems On Top of clothing is just... kinda weird to me tbh.
she also has a star on her top, and a little poofy sleeve jacket.
and those two brought me to.... this. she looks a little plain, and i might add more aspects to her design later, but for now, im satisfied. i think im going in the right direction.
changed her hair to reflect more aspects of sapphires own, since that had always kind of bothered me. i also went back to her debut palette, since it looks soooo good. though, i Did pick some colours from her pilot design, since im a sucker for that geode. man. geodes r fuckin sick.
anyway, her gloves are full gloves with holes in the palms, like sapphires gloves. they flare out, mimicking the shape of ruby’s bandage. i gave her acutal boots, too, instead of the. kinda weird looking coloured heel portions.
her jacket is (obiouvsly) a combo of ruby and sapphires jackets, with the poofy sleeves + short jacket
i thought about adding something to her pants? but i didnt want to have too many colours?? i still feel like shes missing something, though. if you have suggestions, please do share them with me. fresh eyes on her would Definitely help.
anyway! ill post her gauntlets later, with how theyd look combined w her gloves
Ok, finally done redesign her Mistral design :D! It was actually a pretty fun experiment to do, even if it was time consuming lol. Again, as said her design is pretty much almost the same as her Vale design but with a few tweaks such as her dress being a light-ish shade of dark gray and the sleeves not being as long thanks to the environment she’ll be traveling in at least in volumes 4 and 5. And lastly, I kept the cape itself she wore from Vale the same, I just made it a little tattered, because I personally it’d be a very prized possession to her (I head-canon Summer gave it to her) and even with it being tattered she’d wanna wear it.
Here’s my redesign of her Mistral design compared to her actual Mistral design. Now…next will be Weiss, so be on the look out for any rough drafts of my Weiss redesign!
Advice is encouraged on how I could make this design better.

I made another redesign sketch of ruby’s design for volumes 4-6 designs. I decided to give her shorter sleeves and make her dress/shirt a lighter shade because at least for volumes 4-5, she seems to be traveling through a more warmer environment. In my rewrite of rwby I probably would’ve made her just were her original design buuut it probably may have gotten pretty damaged when she used her silver eyes so. I also kept the crosses attaching her cloak to her dress/skirt because well, I see no reason to remove it lol.
