i can't get over gaius pikachu facing over the children he fed into the military dying because they were in the military. that was just the cherry on top
it's not even about whether or not he should get a redemption arc at this point. that ship has sailed.
bending other npcs who have and should be angry to overlook his past is the problem. pretending like ultima was the worst he's done is the problem. killing others just to cause him personal misery he somehow never realized is the problem. completely writing the crania lupi out of the plot, to introduce ANOTHER group of children he indoctrined, all while and condemning fordola to life as a criminal is the problem

So if Sapphire Weapon = Regula...
And the theory that there’s a Diamond Weapon in the works = Gaius
Because Emerald and Ricon don’t really feel like a fit for Gaius (Alfonse and/or Allie do, and they’ve got the diamond-white features that suggest it, and throw on ‘black diamonds’ as a link to the black wolf possibly.)
Theories are floating around it might be Varis in Emerald but...
In FF7 you find Emerald Weapon floating around under the sea....... Who in FF14, is a former Legatus with lots of postmortem information stashed away in clones, and can also be found under the sea...????

;; I’m so sorry to hear that, I’m not sure my (sleep-deprived) recounting will really do the entirety of it any justice, but I feel ya wanting to know asap. I’ll toss in caps as well, since I have itchy screenshot finger when it comes to Gaius. So here’s the warning: MAJOR #5.2 SPOILERS & #RUBY WEAPON SPOILERS UNDER THE CUT.
The fight itself is jaw-dropping and took a turn I really did not foresee at all, so I’m a little reluctant to blurb out all the details because it was just… really intensely amazing and ‘WTF’. There are some details it’s hard to get around entirely though… :|a
So far as story, though, we learn that the VIIth Legion took up the Ultima Weapon research creating what we’re dealing with now. The real shocks come during and after the fight though. The Ruby Weapon undergoes a horrifying and altogether epic transformation, and afterwards when Gaius comes to join us we are very quickly joined by the au ra we saw in the trailers and teaser screenshots. They refer to him as ‘Father’ and he’s likewise shocked to see them - it’s… a muddled reunion, all three that we see here seem to have different thoughts and feelings, united as they ultimately seem to be.
WoL echoes, seeing a glimpse of their past as five small orphaned children who talk about how they were saved by Gaius. Clearly looking up to him, they all determine to enlist in the army to serve the same empire he does, to make him proud and as a means of repaying him.
Allie wants to tell Gaius something, something about ‘the truth’, but is stopped by the others. When Gaius asks who the pilot was;
They leave, saying they’ll never forget what he’s done for them, but next time they meet it will be as enemies.
Afterwards, back at the encampment, Cid shows up and recaps some of past events with his father, Meteor Project, Bozja, and Gaius - before he goes to investigate the Ruby Weapon.

When Cid comes back, Gaius asks if her death was at least swift… Not so, of course.
Basically, it was similar to what we saw of the weapon Estinien fought - though… much, much worse. They discuss how they’re possibly transplanting the memories of dead, powerful soldiers into others (the WoL gets the opportunity to say this is similar to soul crystals).
With much left to do and uncover, everyone begins to go their separate ways. Severa, the Garlean lancer accompanies Cid, and the WoL is bid to rest. Alone, Valdeaulin leaves us with a few lil zingers @ Gaius.
And that’s pretty much the end of it for now. There’s a scene of the orphans back at the Werlyt base discussing what they’ll do next, and we get a teaser to Rex piloting the Sapphire Weapon up next! :’‘‘‘D Can’t wait to kill more of Gaius’s kids! :’‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘D …I’m in pain.
