Granny rolled her eyes, finally putting down her spoon and moving to Ruby's side. She knew the wolf was something Ruby had always struggled with containing, in the Forest as Red and once the curse broke as Ruby. Her little pup was always terrified of hurting someone, of passing on their Curse without permission. She herself knew it was hard, but Granny also knew that Ruby was strong.
"Ruby, the possibility of the wolf being passed on to someone else may worry you, but don't get in over your head. Take this one step at a time. Emma and Marco are going to be staked outside of her house tonight and tomorrow night to be sure there are no mishaps. So settle down; they'll let us know if there's any trouble."
Ruby nodded, taking a deep breath. "Okay," she whispered. "Okay. Thanks, Granny."
The old woman just gave a snort and ordered, "Back to work. There are customers waiting."
Ruby simply smiled and went back to her job. While her anxiety continued to boil about Regina's chances of breaking out of her house, Ruby also wondered what it would be like to see the imposing woman as a wolf. Regina was a natural born leader, so would her wolf also be as large and intimidating as the former mayor was as a human? Would her wolf try to fight Ruby's for dominance of a pack?
A small flutter of excitement beat against Ruby's chest at the thought. Ordinary wolves submitted to her unconditionally because of the added supernatural element to her wolf; she had never been in an actual battle with a wolf before. The thought of having an actual fight in the form made her grin slightly. Maybe Regina wouldn't be opposed to the idea once everyone's magic switched back.
Saving the thought for another time, Ruby focused on her work. The roiling in her stomach would not do her anxiety any good if she kept thinking about it.
--- an excerpt from the next chapter of Turnabout
RedQueen Snippet #3
Regina’s relationship with her parents is complicated. Beyond complicated, actually. She loves them and hates them at the same time, both, for reasons as different as their diametrically opposed personalities. This excerpt focuses on her thoughts of her father and her shifting relationship with him as she learned how to be happy with Red and finally exorcised herself of the demon that she called Mother.
I never liked Henry on the show. He is a perfect example of the weak-willed individual who lets their spouse run all over them. Justified or not, his cowing to Cora facilitated the serial abuse of their daughter. Regina loves him because he gave her the affection her mother could not, but as result of his inability to protect her, and himself, she hates him. The latter is why she was able to kill him to enact the Curse. Had love been all she felt for him, I don’t believe she could have taken his heart and crushed it to get revenge on Snow. But love was far from all she felt for her father, good as he was to her and as much as she did care for him. I don’t imagine that would change very quickly, even if Regina suddenly found herself in a fulfilling relationship.
Here’s the preview:
“Don't get up too quickly,” a familiar male voice instructs from her left.
Directing her attention to the source, Regina finds her father slumped in a chair against the far wall, partially shrouded by shadows. The creases around his mouth and his haggard complexion make him appear more old and weary than he has since the end of the Dark Days. He had not fared well while his only child was busy building a reputation for herself as a bloodthirsty tyrant. Dark circles are also prominent around his eyes and his lips are pressed into a tight line that is uncharacteristic of late. He presently resembles the days after his wife’s coup temporarily wrested control of the throne from their daughter. Unforgivable atrocities were committed against both the kingdom’s subjects and his beloved daughter-in-law, both of which weighed heavily upon his tender heart.
Metamorphasis
The season 2 Red Queen au that nobody asked for.
She's out for run when she sees her, the looming presence of the full moon burrowing deep into her veins until she was outside running before the sun had even thought about rising. She’s sat on a bench at the end of the docks, barely visible to anyone else—especially this early in the morning—but even if Ruby couldn’t see her it’s so quiet that she’s pretty sure it’d be near impossible to miss the sound of her heartbeat. She should keep running, she should just ignore her, finish up her jog, and then enjoy her day off.
Ruby is still muttering under her breath when she leans against the metal barrier just in front of where Regina is sat, staring out at the foggy horizon. She sits so still that Ruby isn’t entirely sure Regina has even noticed that she is no longer alone.
“I owe you an apology,” Ruby says, fighting to get the words out because she should not feel like she needs to do anything for this woman. An apology isn’t what she deserves. But it’s all that Ruby has been able to think about since Archie re-appeared and Cora’s meddling had been revealed. She hates that she feels even a little bit guilty, but she does and telling Regina that is the only way she can think of to make the guilt churning away in her stomach settle.
“You were doing pretty well at the whole not being a raging psycho thing before that,” she says, and okay that wasn’t really what she was going for but it’s true, so Ruby figures she could’ve done worse (she probably has at some point). Regina still hasn’t acknowledged that Ruby is even standing there. “I’m sorry that I played a part, unintentionally, in screwing that up for you.”
Regina doesn’t even blink. She just keeps facing forward, and if the slight sea breeze didn’t catch her hair every now and then, she could be mistaken for a statue.
She should walk away. She really, really should just walk away—she said her piece, she can stop feeling so ridiculously guilty now—but Ruby’s never really been good at doing the things that she ought to. Grumbling, because this really isn’t how she wants to spend her Sunday morning, Ruby sits down next to Regina.
She has no fucking clue why she’s sitting down next the Evil Queen. But she is and if the stubborn woman can’t answer her then Ruby doesn’t really know what the hell she’s meant to say beyond Sorry I told everyone you murdered Archie. Even though I did see what I thought was you and given your history can you really blame me for thinking the worst? Somehow she doubts Regina will take that very well. “You could at least…” Ruby starts to try again but she trails off because even if the silence is starting to get to her (starting to itch under her skin the same way it did this morning before her run), she still can’t find the right words to break it.
“You can go now.” Regina is so quiet when she eventually speaks that Ruby is ninety percent sure if she were human she wouldn’t have heard her at all, even with how still the docks are on a Sunday her voice barely rises above the sound of the waves lapping at the shore line.
Regina’s right—Ruby can go, should go, shouldn’t even really care. But she’s never heard Regina sound like that before, and it eats at her worse than her guilt ever really did, so much so that Ruby knows if she walks away she will never forgive herself. So she stays seated, the little voice in the back of her head that’s been asking her what the fuck she thinks she’s doing since she first saw Regina sitting alone in the pre-dawn mist is significantly quieter now.
It’s barely light out, sun just starting to peek out over the water, but when Ruby glances to the side it finally registers that something is wrong.

(Well, I managed to write the first little section, but that was it.) Once again I'm so sorry, when I am able to write again I will write something for you to make up for it, but in the meantime please enjoy this fluffy fic from @sterling-jay
