Not Pointing at Sutekh, but pointing at Ruby's name
no, I'm still heated about Empire of Death.
Because that scene in the TARDIS when Ruby Sunday has the gall, the audacity, six hours after meeting Louise in a coffee shop, to call her her "real mum" to The Doctor.
Beyond how utterly unrealistic this episode was relative to most adoptee-birth parents union, it's also a collosal and MASSIVE fuck you to Carla in particular (and Cherry in the home as well by proxy).
The sheer fucking audacity of Ruby the character and RTD as a writer...and this is a 'happy' ending? Are you fucking kidding me?
Doctor who theory time kids.
So, as we know, Ruby's mother is an ordinary human. Nothing extraterrestrial or godly about her (unless we're being lied to, of course). But there's still so many questions unanswered, such as:
How come she can make it snow?
Why was Maestro so scared of her?
How did Ruby's DNA have no connection, whilst her mother was still living a normal life?
I present to you something so very simple that I have quite literally never seen talked about:
Who is Ruby Sunday's father?
I'm fairly certain that they just... Don't talk about him. Other than Kate mentioning his name and age, there's nothing. No photos, you don't see him, no real character or information about him. He could be literally anybody. They say right at the end of the last episode that they've found him, which opens up some intriguing possibilities. If we see him next series, which I suspect we might, is he going to be ordinary? Is he going to want anything to do with Ruby? Is he a regular human, or is he something else? Because everyone has been speculating on who her birth mother is, but pretty much all of those theories can be applied to her father. It's such a simple conclusion to make, but I haven't seen anything about it. That makes me think that there's something more that I've missed about who her father is, but I might not have so I'm posting this anyway.
Thanks for reading my rambling, if you did.
A couple Ruby's Mum headcanons. Not the snow or 73 yards or anything like that. Just some non-sci-fi/supernatural stuff.
Ruby's mum has a tough home life. Her stepdad is "trouble." We don't know the exact specifics of that, but we know that she's scared and knows that she's not safe with him.
Like her future daughter, performing brings her solace, but while Ruby is a musician, she's a theatre kid. It keeps her out of the house for a few hours longer after school, and it allows her to spend time pretending to be somebody else, someone without a stepdad like hers.
When she gets pregnant at 15, she's terrified. Her overriding thoughts are, "I have to get out," and, "I have to get my baby away from him." She's so scared, she doesn't say anything to the baby's dad. She doesn't say anything that could possibly get back to her stepdad. There has to be no way for him to find her, no way for him to find the baby.
But she's not ready to be a mum. She doesn't know how, and besides, she's running away from home. Who knows what sort of living situation she'll find? But she can't be discovered. So she safeguards her baby in the most anonymous way her 15-year-old self can think of: leaves her on the church doorstep. That's what they do in the stories, right? The baby will be found there, will be safe, will be taken in. And she can get away.
She's been making this plan for a while, preparing for when the baby comes. She's walked by the church a few times. She's seen the CCTV. There can't be any trace of her, no way for him to find her.
So one day before school, she slips into the theatre department, roots through the old costumes. They have those long black cloaks from when they did Macbeth. When she puts it on, she checks in the mirror to make sure it covers her completely. She'll be able to carry the baby inside the cloak too--the baby will stay warm and hidden until the last possible moment, the last bit of protection she'll be able to offer as a mum.
When she gets to the church, all the camera will see is a black cloak. If anyone witnesses her, if one of the priests comes outside before she's gotten away, all they'll see is a black cloak.
It'll be the only description they have of her, and she can take it off as soon as she's out of sight. And then no one will recognize a thing.
She'll go as far as she can, hiding so he'll never find her. She'll start a new life. She'll change her name and get a fake ID. She'll avoid fingerprints and cheek swabs, anything that could be used to track her down. She'll disappear, and it'll be like she never existed.
She just has to leave a piece of her heart behind to do it.
"I don't understand-if she was an NHS worker how come it was so hard for your team to find her?"
"I'm going to be honest with you Ruby-we never looked"

I’m not saying that ruby was the summer maiden and that ruby inherited her powers as she died but was too young so they lay dormant until now, courtesy to ozdin and the secret order of guradians
But hey, I’m saying ruby’s mum was summer
