After clicking through some of my daily feeds of articles, I stumbled across this article I thought was worth sharing. It touches on the idea of "Captology," a term coined by the author B.J. Fogg. His book, which the article mentions briefly, explains the term as an amalgam of the phrase "computers as persuasive technologies." The whole idea behind captology and it's relation to learning programming is interesting to say the least. Rubymonk, the online interactive Ruby tool is using the theory in their teaching techniques. They have taken persuasion to an almost subliminal level and integrated it throughout the process of the tutorial. Take a look at the article if it sounds interesting to you. For anyone looking to learn Ruby, I would recommend the tutorial just for their application of positive persuasion.
