Lestat & Louis
Absolutely batshit crackish insane fic idea:
AU where Claudia wasn't rescued alone and had a "sibling" that was turned with her. A twin brother that was meant to keep her company, but whose presence she almost grew to resent as much as Loustat.
A young boy Lestat is even more jealous of and worried he'd be replaced in Louis's heart (especially if Louis turned him).
The kind of siblings that throw knives at each other and lock each other in closets and dig ditches for bodies and push them in and fight wickedly until they have a united target.
I took the Gallier House tour last night, this is the place that Anne based the Rue Royale flat on (mostly the exterior) though it was not actually built in time for Louis and Lestat to have lived there (1860ish, so closer to when Louis and Claudia leave NOLA). The tour was neat! They had the house set up for mourning (hence the coffin in the parlor) and talked a lot about Victorian mourning practices, the enslaved people who lived in the house til 1865 and peaced out as soon as they were able, and some local history. Our tour guide was awesome, highly recommend this if you get a chance.
Rue Royale inspired socks
This pair uses the “Creeping” stitch pattern from the AlterKnits Stitch Dictionary book, which really reminds me of wrought iron railings.
So I leaned into this, using sage green and black yarns to make these an homage to 1132 Rue Royale in New Orleans, the real life Gallier House museum, and the fictional home of Louis, Lestat, and Claudia in both the book and tv show Interview with the Vampire.
Yarns: Atelier Franziska UHL in “Fischhaut” (“fish skin”) & Mothy & the Squid merino sock yarn in “Midnight Black”
Knitting loom: Knitting Board Original Sock Loom (fine gauge), set at 60 pegs due to the 20 peg repeat of the pattern.
I love how thick and cosy these ended up, and the intricate pattern means the floats are naturally quite tidy inside. I did get a bit sick of this stitch pattern by the time I finished the second sock though!
Previous vampire-related knitting: blood drip socks, VL bobble hat, VL socks 1, VL socks 2.
