Your panicked run across the town drew both attention and space, people not wanting to get in your way. You were thankful for that.
Hiccup has just put out a call for all dragon trainers to get into the sky and you were hurrying to where you had left Lightningwing, your dragon, when you spotted your girlfriend.
“Oh gods,” you faltered in your run towards the dragon pit. “Is that blood?”
Ruffnut, who you had just ran into, peered down at her shirt where there was indeed blood spotted across it.
“Yes but that doesn’t matter right now, what does matter is-” you cut her off.
“You are literally bleeding.”
“It’s a flesh wound! Now come on!”
Rolling your eyes, you followed Ruffnut. You had to love her or you’d have to kill her.
TW BUG MENTION:
----------------------------------------------
How to Train Your . . . Dragonfly?
Hiccup:
• Aww yeah go off his funky bug friend!!
• But seriously he finds it charming that you like bugs just as much as he like Dragons.
• It's a bit embarrassing but he never knew bugs to be half as interesting until he heard you geeking out about them.
• Yeah sure he chased around the occasional bug or two while growing up, but once he got older and his father started expecting him to act a certain way he put all that behind him.
• If it weren't for Toohless or any of the Dragons he probably would still be chasing down bugs instead.
• Given your extensive knowledge on bugs Hiccup is more than willing to lend you a journal to write down all your bug facts if you haven't been doing so already.
• If you aren't artistly skilled he can draw the bugs for you!
• As for handling them that's pretty much left all up to you.
• He isn't afraid per say he just trusts you more with dealing with them than he can, and he just wants to make sure he doesn't hurt them.
• It is a bit awkward between you and Toothless. He isn't too pleased that Hiccup has to be the one to stop him from "playing" (squishing) with all the bugs that come near him. Its like taking away a cats favorite toy.
Astrid:
• Oh Joy! Another friend who geeks out over something.
• At least it's something different!
• But she only teases in a loving way and is happy to see you happy over something.
• Even if that something comes in the form of creepy crawlies.
• She may not fully understand your fascination with bugs in comparison to dragons but you get her hooked on the "cooler" bugs that have interesting bite side effects or ones with pretty colors.
• When it comes to you wanting to observe bugs up close she does have her limits.
• Giant flaming reptiles are one thing but certain bugs do give her the creeps. Anything larger than the back of her hand and she's fine with just observing them from afar.
• It is sweet that she points out bugs she runs into when you guys go walking around the Edge and Berk.
• It's become a game between you two were she points out a bug and you go on a long explanation of all the bug facts you can share about said bug.
• Even if she only remembers a fraction of the facts you share to her, she's still feels honored that you want to share your love of bugs with her.
Ruffnut:
• COOL!!!
• You best believe she's going bug collecting with you!
• What's this one do? And this one? WHAT ABOUT THAT ONE??
• Doesn't even listen to you half the time when you ramble on and on about all your bug knowledge.
• She just thinks they look cool and that's good enough for her to get into bug collecting with you.
• She isn't afraid of bugs and is more than willing to hold each and every one that you present to her.
• The downside is that you have to keep an eye on her because she's so willing to pick up any bug that comes across her path.
• Sure it's sweet that she wants to impress you but this is the fourth time this month you've had to remove a poisonous bug from her palm before it bit her.
• Oh well at least she's not judging you or weirded out by your interests!
• You've got a bug friend in her and that's awesome!
Tuffnut:
• Much like his twin sister, Tuffnut also finds your interest in bugs to be cool.
• Though shockingly he is only slightly less enthusiasts about it compared to his sister.
• Don't get him wrong, do whatever makes you happy.
• But you do realize his chicken has probably eaten a bug you've befriended, right? There's not going to he any animosity between you and Chicken, right???
• Besides that he'll happily listen to you talk about the bugs you like and is actually a lot more intune to what you ramble on about than the others.
• It just shows that he cares about what you say. There have even been a few instances when he's recalled some of the bug facts you've shared with him to the others even if they don't know what he's talking about.
• What intrigues him the most are all the bugs that have cool "powers" as he so puts it. Like bugs that have interesting poisonous side effects.
• Let's just say he uses this knowledge to his advantage when he feels the need to enact in some good pranking around the Edge and Berk.
• Also like his sister he doesn't mind picking up bugs especially if it means scaring the others.
• Just don't be too upset with him when he needs to feed chicken and a few crickets become a part of his meal.
Snotlout:
• Ooooh . . .Great
• No no no it's cool definitely totally nothing wrong with that why would he have a problem with that, who told you he had a problem with that.
• Oh Gods why did it have to be bugs.
• He tries to act all cool about it he really does but . . . no.
• He almost shits bricks when he noticed a giant ass furry spider just casually climbing the wall of your hut and you didn't immediately set it on fire.
• Well at least you're the bug savior in this relationship because Odin be damned he is NOT going to touch the bugs no matter how safe they are.
• Admittedly he does think SOME of the bugs are cool . . . some.
• But please don't go into too much detail. it really makes his skin crawl the way you describe some of these bugs to him.
• He doesn't judge you specifically but he definitely side eyed you (you know thr loook) the first time whe saw you casually pick up a beatle just so you could draw it better.
• The others like to tease him so hard for it. "But you ride a flaming lizard?" Yeah so!!?? Bugs are way different and are way more creepier than they have any right to be!!
Fishlegs:
• EEEEEEEK!! Geek buddies!!!!
• He's got the dragon knowledge and you got the bugs how could the two of you not instantly click?
• Y'all trade facts like it's some sort of business exchange that even Hiccup gets a little concerned!
• But oh man do you two ever not talk? Y'all have had so many conversations that lasted throughout the night because neither of you wanted the conversation to end!
• Totally wants to make little cards for all the bugs you know just like his dragon cards!
• Tries to get Meatlug to be friends with the bugs you show him but it doesn't work out so well when she mistakes some of the bugs for food.
• Luckily he's willing to just try and be friends with the bugs himself for now for you.
• Doesn't mind holding bugs as long as they aren't of the poisonous variety.
• Anything with a stinger is a no go too, especially pollen collectors as they tend to mess with his allergies.
• Other than that all bugs are free to rest in his hands and he's really gentle with handling them as well. He understands that bugs are nowhere near as strong as dragons and would to hate to see any of them get hurt under his care.
----------------------------------------------
Fishlegs:
• Anything involving food was always going to be a lot easier when it involves Fishlegs. Man can cook and isn't afraid to try anything new you bring to the table.
• It was a gentle morning on Berk and not a cloud was in the sky nor was there a raid to keep you dragon riders busy. And so to seize this serenity you decided to start your day with a well deserved long morning snooze. Enjoying some much needed rest you stayed in bed long into the early morning, only rising when you felt the tremors of your stomach call to you. Unable to put the aching hunger to rest your tired steps eventually take you out of your bed and into your small dining area.
• Normally a place you avoided. Not by choice mind you. Being a dragon rider more often than not ment you rarely cooked for yourself. Or ate cooked food in general. Warm, quick, hearty meals are usually served daily in the Mead hall but are scarcely flavorful and are often simple stews made with leftover ingredients that lie around the kitchen. When not eating in the Mead Hall your normally off on some new adventure Hiccup has planned for all the riders, this means eating very little and only foods small enough to carey in bags mainly fruits and breads.
• With this gift of a morning you decided to put this kitchen of yours into good use and finally get some homemade cooking done.
• Digging through your kitchen was like searching for buried treasure. You didn't have much to cook with and of what you did have wasn't anything to ride home about.
• Fish was a given, some bread that had gone stale, and a fee vegetables that you went too sure were okay to eat given the funky smell they gave off.
• Though all was not lost as you were saving up the big star of the meal for a rain day. Some much needed spice in your bland diet.
• Those 4 hours you will never receive back from Johann were about to become worth it as you began to cook away a nice fish breakfast with the spices that you acquired from his ship.
• Slicing, chopping, and cutting away. These tiny movements were taking you back to a simpler time. One where you were not even tall enough to reach the chair in family home.
• You had lived in a place far beyond the Barbaric Archipelago's seas could reach. Living a simple life with your family on a farm that seemed to create it's own sea of yellow and gold wheat fields. The existence of Dragons had not even reached the minds of the people that you lived among and Vikings were nothing more than Barbaric northnern myths used to scare children into behaving. Your brother, the man of the house after your father had passed was the one who took care of you. A sad shell your mother became after your father passed. Although life was far from perfect what made you happy was the food your brother was able to provide for all of you, and was he ever a great cook. The same spices you cook with now are the same spices he would use way back when.
• These simple spices. Fennel, Cumin, Chili powder. Enough to bring a smile to your face and enough to make you cry.
• Raiders from your lands would push you and your brother to retreat towards the icy north and the icy north was enough to push your brother away. The lone survivor, yourself carrying the only memories you have of your family left. All almost lost to the chilling winds of your new home and life on Berk.
• Who knew that the simple smell of childhood could bring you back? And also burnt. Burnt food was enough to snap your brain out of its somber state as you almost turn your breakfast into a crisp.
• plating your meal you look at it with slight worry. Has it been too long? Will your body even enjoy the meal you've made or has your stomach assimalted to the blandness that plagues your pallet?
• As you slowly lift your fork to your mouth, before you can bite a loud knock can be heard at your door.
• *A voice calls out to you* H. . Helloooo? (Y/N)! Is . . is this too early? I know we wanted to talk about the new Dragons we ran into but I wasn't sure if you were up yet!
• It was Fishlegs. A little annoyed to be interrupted you can't blame him as your hit with the reality that you did promise to document the new Dragons with Fishlegs the moment you had a day off.
• (Y/N): Come in!!
• You happily call to him as you set down your fork to give him your undivided attention.
• Fishlegs: *entering your home* Oh good! You're awake. I was hoping we could start with . ...with the . . did I come at a bad time??
• Noticing the food that still sits full on the plate you try to reassure him that he wasn't interrupting anything major.
• (Y/N):. . Oh!! Oh no!! You're fine, it's just a little something for myself is all.
• You wince a little at sight of the half burnt fish.
• (Y/N): ... Yeah.
• Fishlegs doesn't even acknowledge the burnt food as he's more intrigued by the smell that has coated the room.
• Fishlegs: Smells good at least. . .and also strangely hot? Did you add anything to it?
• Your a little taken aback. Sure Fishlegs was observent but you didn't think he could smell out your spices even though all the burnt smell as well.
• (Y/N): Y . yeah?? How'd you. .
• Fishlegs: It's pretty strong if you know what to search for. *He starts walking around your kitchen a bit more only stopping once he notices the bags of spice on your counter.* Aha!! *He picks up the bag and pinces a small amount of Chili pepper onto his fingers and tastes it*
• (Y/N): *nearly leaping out of your seat to stop him* WAIT!! I don't think you know what your getting into!
• But instead of the normal reaction you got from Viking barfing, gagging or somesort of discomfort, Fishlegs was calmly trying to pinpoint his feelings towards the spice.
• Fishlegs: *Gently humming* . hmmm . . well it's definitely different. . . hmmm . . but I like it! Man (Y/N) you should have told me you cooked with this stuff too!
• (Y/N): *stunned* What?
• Fishlegs: *Holding up the bag of Chili powder* Well I've never cooked with this stuff specifically. But I recognize the fennel seeds they always pair well with a nice Yak cut!
• (Y/N): I . . well....I . .I didn't know?? I mean I know you cook but I didn't think that envoled. . .spice!
• Fishlegs only laughs lightly at your bewildered state. Setting down the bag of spice he seats himself next to you to observe the now cold, burnt food on your plate.
• Fishlegs: *playfully* . . Yikes.
• He still takes a bite of your food anyways and only lightly gags at your cooking.
• Fishlegs: Sorry! *he notices you glares* Haha I mean I could always teach you! *he happily remarks.*
• You only pout a little bit as a response but quickly join his gagging as you try a bit of your own cooking. Yep definitely as burnt as it looks, secondly waaaaaaay to much cumin. What were you trying to drown the damn thing?
• Turning to Fishlegs you can't help but laugh at the wildness of it all that you're friends with the one Viking in all of Berk who understands what spice is and actually likes it!
• (Y/N): *setting your fork down* . . Okay I admit. Not my best attempt but give me a break *you lightly punch his side* It's been a while mkay?
• Fishlegs: *He laughs lightly too*. Well I'm no expert either. You properly know more about spices than I do. Who's to say we can't learn a thing or two from each other.
• (Y/N): *you hum amused and nod along in agreement* Shall we learn a thing or two then? *You stand offering your hand to him*
• And that was how you spent the rest of your free day cooking and trying all sorts of new recipes with the best cook friend in all of Berk.
-----------------------------
Ruffnut:
• A nice gentle beeeze blows around you as you fly back to the edge with plenty of bags strapped to your side. In said bags contain a multitude of spices that you had to trade a heafty amount in order to acquire them. All worth it as it's been years since you've had some spices in your life. The often cold weather around the Archipelago makes it hard to grow spices of your own. As a result you've been subjected to nothing but bland and tastless food that your stomach curses you for every day.
• As you land back at the Edge you send your Dragon off to relax behind your hut.
• You don't eben realize how odly quite the base is. A spring in your step a sign of joy, you hum a quiet tune. All feels right for moment, you turn to open the door to your hut and are immediately drenched in water. That moment of joy now but a distant feeling as you hear a high pitched voice jump from the side of your home.
• Ruffnut: LOKIED!!!
• She laughs manically at your soaking form.
• (Y/N): RUFFNUT!!!
*Slosh slosh slosh*
• Wet footsteps stomp across your floor as you quickly try to change out of your soaking clothes into fresher ones. Ruffnut can still be heard laughing outside your bedroom door as she makes herself at home in your hut.
• This would explain the quietness that haunts the Edge. You'd had gotten up so early in the morning to fly on over to the market that you'd completely forget that today of all days was Loki day. Anyone caught on the Edge was sure to get a giant heaping of cheap laughs and tasteless pranks that the twins have set up all around the base. Including people's huts now apparently.
• You only sigh in annoyance as you move the bucket that was once filled with water, out of the way. You cautiously observe your home unsure if there were any more pranks that the twins have placed for you to discover.
• Ruffnut: Relaaax!
• She pipes up walking up to you and gently patting your back.
• Ruffnut: There aren't any more in here!
• You want to believe her but at the same time this is Ruffnut your dealing with. Any moment that gets your guard down is prime opportunity to be caught in a prank.
• (Y/N):. . .uh huh. *You respond hesitantly*
• Walking around your hut, you were starting to feel only a bit more relaxed. I guess she was right. You hadn't run into any more "traps" aa you circled around the room. With a sigh you make your way towards the kitchen to get some much needed food into your system.
• Everything seemed fine as you set the bags of spices down in your kitchen. Ruffnut was closely trailing behind. As you make your way over to open the cabinet. You almost immediately regretted the decision as you noticed an all to familiar smirk form on Ruffnuts face.
• (Y/N): RUFFNUT!!
• But it was too late. Like before, only this time with a lot more flour, you had just been Loki'd . . .again.
• Stating annoyed as you tried to wipe off all the flour you could only let out a frustrated sigh as you glared at your friend.
• Ruffnut: LOKI'D!!!!! and with the same set up too!!!
• (Y/N): >:/
• Ruffnut: What? I only said that there were no more pranks in the other room!
• (Y/N): Well I guess I'm cooking caked in flour! *You say with exasperation*
• Though you really were right in that you had no more extra clothes to change out of, less you want to be wet over being covered in flour.
• As you started to set up your ingredients ruffnut kept eyeing and observing all of you movements. She was especially fascinated with the "mysterious powder" you kept adding to your food.
• Without even asking she just grabs a bag for herself and starts messing with it.
• (Y/N): And what do you think you're doing?
• Ruffnut: Trying to figure out what this is duh!!!
• (Y/N): *You grab the bag from her hand* It's just some spice, and don't go touching it all willy nilly! This stuff is hard to come by you know?
• Ruffnut: Well what do you do with it?
• (Y/N): You cook with it. *An idea forms in your head.* buuuut if you really want to know guess you're just going to have to try it yourself!
• You offer her a small spoon to try the spice. She had grabbed something particularly hot and if this is how you get back at her then so be it!
• As she takes a big scoop more than you except she doesn't even hesitate to take a bite. You on the other hand are starting to feel a bit guilty. Maybe she should have been warned to not inhale so much all at once. But her coughing fit followed by gagging was enough for her to get the hint. You immediately offer to fetch her some water and she drinks it to try and wash as much down as she can.
• Ruffnut: . . .*pfft* *pfft* ... Ahhggh .... Why is it so .. ..hot?? .... . I like it!!!
• (Y/N): *Stunned* what??
• Ruffnut: *composing herself* Yeah? It's like painful but in a good way!!
• Looking at her you slowly shake your head. You should have known it would take a lot more to get back at the twins. Ever the resilient or maybe just down right stupid. Ruffnut takes the bag once more and is already heading out the door with it, laughing to herself in the process.
• (Y/N): *Trying to follow her* And where do you think you're going???
• Ruffnut: *Calling back to you* I'm going to make Snotlout snort this!!!
• (Y/N): *Frantically* NO!!!!
------------------------------
Tuffnut:
• Ahh Loki day. Everyone's worst nightmare and the Twins best dream! While the twins were out getting ready for a day of pranking. You were far away from the base as you could. You had gotten up bright and early in the hopes that you could dodge the twins's pranks. Because of this you had little time to enjoy some breakfast and thus you had to bring your kitchen to the outdoors with you! Well at least the portable parts
• Setting up camp as far into the woods as you could safely be in, you at least found comfort in enjoying the nice morning sun rise in the distance peaking through the trees in quiet solace.
• All seemed well as you were preparing a nice sausage and eggs breakfast. You had your Dragon to keep watch there was nothing that could distract you and leave you a vulnerable target right? . . RIGHT???
• *Some bushes start to rustle behind you*
• A bit annoyed you do your best to ignore it. There was no wind blowing so it couldn't possibly be that. So it must be the twins!
• (Y/N): Guys?!! *You yell to yourself!* If this is Ruffnut. . or Tuffnut. ...or both of you! The gigs up I can hear you so whatever you have planned drop it!
• Try to cook some more the noise doesn't stop and so you decide to investigate yourself.
• (Y/N): *Your eyes shift* I'm only warning you guys once! *You approach the bush* if I find you guys hiding in there I'm sending (Dragon's name after you)!!
• Standing just a few inches away from the bush you start to feel a bit uneasy. If they really did follow you out here just to prank you, only the Gods know what kinds of horrors they had in store for you, and you really didn't want to be on the receiving end of any of it.
• Your hand slowly reaches down at the bush. Upon feeling something move you yelp back in fear. However your shock is short lived when the figure in the bush is revealed to be nothing more than a fat little squirrel that quickly scampers back up a nearby tree.
• (Y/N): *You compose yourself and let out a shaky sigh*. . .whoooo. Okay! Wow I am paranoid. *the realization causes your cheecks to flush red with embarrassment*
• You make your way back towards your supplies where you begin to light a small fire and start cooking some breakfast.
• As you wait for your pan to heat up you look around at the supplies you brought. All seems in order except for the missing vital tool that you need to help not burn your hand. Your spoon, though you could have sworn you brought it along with you before you retreated into the woods?
• Not wanting to live out the scenario of potentially having to pick up cooked eggs and sausage with bare hands you search through our bag to find said spoon.
• As you were rumaging around, to no avail you couldn't find the spoon. Disappointed you start to wonder is this meal really all that worth it. Though heading back would mean having to face a minefield of pranks so I guess that just means its going to be burnt hands for breakfast!
• Turning back around to gather the remaining supplies, another item has seemed to just mysteriously disapear. Your plate is gone too!
• (Y/N): What the .... I could have sworn that I placed it right here?? *you say aloud to no one in particular*
• As you search around the realization dawns on you. The twins have struck haven't they?
• You walk around your little camp sight looking through every bush and past every tree and still no sight of them. But all signs pointed to them being behind your disappearing cookware.
• It only became that much more annoying when they stole your basket of eggs.
• (Y/N): Hey???!! My EGGS!! *You frustratingly yelled out to no where in particular*
• With no sight of them still your only saving grace was the sound of another bush rustiling behind you.
• (Y/N): Aha!!! *You launch at the bush* Not a squirrel this time!! *You say triumphantly*
• And you were right it wasn't a squirrel, but it wasn't who you were looking for either. In you hands rests a plump brown chicken looking at you puzzled.
• (Y/N): Chicken???? Wait . . .if you're here than where's . . . Oh thor no.
• Tuffnut: *From high up in the trees* Did someone say they needed some eggs??
• And before you had time to move a barrage of eggs rained from the sky coating your body in clear and yellow splots. Egg shells splattered all over the area as you stood there unable to process what was happening.
• Tuffnut managed to climb down from his spot as he shouted Loki'd! Barley able to contain himself he was a laughing mess upon looking at your egg covered form.
• (Y/N): Ackk Groooose!? TUFFNUT!!!
• You want to chase him but yet you stand unsure of how to approach him. Has he booby trapped this whole place? How'd he even get here without setting off your dragon? And where in Thors name is his sister?
• As if he could read your mind he saunters up to you to give you a playful pat on the back as egg goop splats all over after each pat.
• Tuffnut: Aww man you should have been there it was one hell of a prank! You know I there was going to be a part where you would have been covered in feathers but nooo you had to run off and ruin half the fun.
• (Y/N): Tuffnut *you grit your teeth*
• Tuffnut: Well I guess you got the lesser prank then. You should see Hiccup and Astrid faces! They'll probably be coming here any second now.. . .to try and find me, they've already have Ruffnut.
• You only raise your eyebrow at him in curious confusion.
• (Y/N): . I . . I don't even want to know.
• Welp now that breakfast was practically ruined you begin to dowse the fire and pack up your stuff seeing that your breakfast is now stuck to your body.
• Even still you felt the need to get back at Tuffnut ruining your morning. With what little you have left you have just one small bag of cayenne pepper. In small bout of confidence you take a handful of the spice and chuck it at Tuffnut.
• Although none of it hit is hace he was still blasyed by the orange powder and immediately hit with a waft of spice that was causing him a sneezing fit the likes of which he's never felt before.
• Tuffnut: . .OH SHIT!! *coughing* What is this?? My nose is tingly . . it feels like Barfs gas but why is it hot?? My eyes itch..
• (Y/N): *You stick your tounge at him* Yeah well that's what you get!
• Tuffnut: *Trying to wipe it off* Well whatever it is I want it, hand it over!!
• (Y/N): What???! NO! Its supposed to be used for cooking MY COOKING!
• Tuffnut: Well you're NOT cooking anymore, you're welcome! So I'll be taking it off your hands.
• He promptly snatches the bag and starts running back towards the base.
• (Y/N): Tuffnut! What do you plan on doing with it?? TUFFNUT!!!
• Tuffnut: >:] I'm going to convince Snotlout to rub it all over himself and tell him that people will do whatever he says if does so.
• (Y/N): NOOOO!
