I Can't Write For Toffee...But I'm Going To Write About This
The brain weasels are being particularly weasely this week, which has considerably cut down on my writerogical output. HOWEVER! I have been sifting through the Ruin Jam 2014 submissions, which have made me laugh, cry and generally come down with a case of "the feels." My favourite so far has got to be Quing's Quest VII: The Death of Videogames! by Deirdra "Squinky" Kiai. There are three very important reasons for this. One, I got to play (incredibly fabulous) dress-up because dressing up is AWESOME! (The appeal of dressing up in video games, where everything fits perfectly and you never have to worry about finding stuff in your size, to a 6'4" transwoman with huge feet cannot be overstated.) Squinky can be my personal shopper/stylist any time they like. I mean this. B, I got to select the name of my favourite non-fictional pirate of all time as the name of my partner in crime.
Finally, and probably the most objectively meritorious and not just appealing to my foibliest of foibles, the use of music is fantastic. I was going to add "for a TWINE game" on to the end of that last sentence, but I feel it's rather unnecessary. The use of music is fantastic, full stop.
Quing's Quest VII made me smile and laugh when I was feeling not great. If there is any greater achievement for a video game, I don't know what it is. Play it!
