ladies of Iron Man Comics: RUMIKO FUJIKAWA. part 1.

Rumiko is the 27 years old grandaughter of the CEO of Fujikawa Industries (which has recently bought SE becoming Fujikawa-Stark). She has been raised in a traditional family who has never let her in the family business. Rumiko might seem like a spoiled girl, often flauting about the fact that she is doing many things (like following around a notorious playboy) to make her parents angry, but she is very self-conscious, honest and kind hearted. One of her defining traits is rebellion, being the daughter of a very wealthy family and traditional parents, she feels like there are too many people trying to turn her into something she isn’t.

Rumiko Fujikawa and Tony Stark meet for the first time in Isla Suerte at a business event where Tony is presenting some of his new softwars and inventions for a new line in collaboration with Stark-Fujikawa. In particular, Tony accidentally stares at a grinning Rumiko while the woman is swimming in the pool.  Later, when they meet and Tony finds out Rumiko is the niece of the Stark-Fujkawa’s CEO, Tony sincerely apologizes, but Rumiko is mostly amused. She also saves Tony from the insisting offers of Sunset Brain, seeing how much Tony is uncomfortable. They walk along the beach where Rumiko reveals him that she is also doing this to piss her family off, as they are quite the traditionalists and don’t let her even work in the company. Of course, villain time. Firebrand attacks the island and Tony tells Rumiko to get to safety… only to find out that she goes to the police and then masterfully coordinates the medical unity and the people to safety. Tony is quite impressed by how behind her apparently superficial character, there’s actually a very competent person. Later, Rhodey, Rumiko and Tony go to eat together.

In v.3 #013 Tony is seriously injured and needs to take a break, so he spends some time at a health clinic (in California) and it’s there that Rumiko finds him. Wanting to see him again, she flew from Tokyowith the excuse that she needed a break from stress as well. They have the chance to spend some time together and Rumiko forces Tony to actually stop working, taking him to a sigh-seeing trip, visit some historical sites and then taking him out to dinner. During a pic-nic (where they also kiss!), Rumiko tells him in all honesty that she is helping him because she knows what earning money, submitting to the demands of others, always working do to people and she likes him too much for it. She also confised that she can’t be around someone who lets stress destroy them. Tony doesn’t completely agree, as for him, working has always mixed with pleasure, but he wants to try for her. Later, afraid she was too harsh with him, she tries to wake him up… finding out that she can’t. Of course, we all know the clinic is actually controlled by a villain (The Controller), but she doesn’t and so she starts investigating just to be taken prisoner by The Controller himself. While Iron Man is fighting, The Controller’s machine tries to subdue her, but she wants none of it and against all odds she frees herself from it and in anger she destroys  the machines. When it’s all done, the next day, Rumiko (who of course doesn’t know Tony is Iron Man) invites him to a vacation, just some break time, the two of them… Tony hesitates and Rumiko understands, leaving him.

In v.3 #018, Tony calls Rumiko, mostly driven by the anxiety of having to deal with Sunset Bain and she reminds him that if he ever wants to take a break, well, he knows where to find her.

In #023 we find out that Rumiko’s grandfather has finally decided to let her work in the family business. She invites Tony to see the new power source of Stark-Fujikawa: Ultimo. Tony tries to tell her it’s too dangerous, but Rumiko is mostly saddened and irritated that another nice day has turned into ‘another working day’. Still, it’s clear that she values his opinion and later, when the ship over Ultimo is attacked by two villains, she calls him. When Iron Man arrives and saves the day, Rumiko, disappointed by the fact that Tony has not tried to help her but has delegated. Once again, when Ultimo awakes, Rumiko is extremely disappointed to see that Tony is not there while she, Iron Man, Pepper and Hogan work to stop Ultimo.

Tony decides to apologize to Rumiko and he kisses her. They start seeing each others again and she also manages to drag him to a night club (which Tony usually avoids) and punch a man for him (when Tony managed to get hit by the guy he was trying to get off Rumiko). Things start to go very well until Tony starts go get jealous and... Rumiko has enough, especially because Tony has expressed no desire to be in a committed relationship with her. While scolding him, she screams that she loves him and then, horrified, walks away crying. This ruins their New Year Eve plans, and Rumiko has the worst night ever, feeling sad and alone at a party she would usually enjoy.

Rumiko, to clear her head, goes to dinner with her friend Solomon who gives her some advice and convinces her to talk about her feelings with Tony, without storming off. This is also the moment when Tony's armor becomes sentient so he has a lot on his plate and when Rumiko arrives Tony can't do anything but stay silent and ignore her, afraid that the armor would kill her. Once the sentient armor is destroyed, Tony goes to Rumiko with a ridiculous amount of roses, apologizes and finally tells her he is in love with her. She kisses him, surprising him, then tells him to get out and call tomorrow, to ask her out in a proper manner like a real gentleman.Things start going very well again! 

She also knows how to pick lockets.

But consider: a Macross Plus AU where Rumiko is the producer for an AI idol singer and Tony and Ty Stone are rival giant robot pilots.

Okay, but Tony still having that strip of photos of Rumiko and using it as a bookmark, and sometimes it makes him really sad to look at it, but he still can’t ever bring himself to throw it away, and he’s kind of holding onto it because he can’t bear the thought of maybe forgetting her.  And sometimes looking at it makes him smile when he remembers her, too.

(And writing down notes about her to himself just in case he erases his brain again and he goes back even further than that and forgets that time too this time because he is NOT going to forget her, too, not least because he can’t let himself forget what happened to her because of him, and he needs to make sure of it.)

Hi, I have a tentative headcanon for Rumiko & Tony's daughter. Say, when she's first brought home from the hospital and, of course, babies wake up about every two hours. And sometimes they don't even sleep at all if they're colicky. So what if Tony decides to take up baby-caring duties late, late into the nights because he's the one that suffers from insomnia anyway? I dunno, that breaks & warms the heart at the same time...

Omggggg.  THIS IS SO WONDERFUL AND KIND OF BITTERSWEET BUT IT’S SO SWEET AND I LOVE IT.

Oh, gossssh.

Tony being the one to stay up to take care of their little baby daughter so Ru can sleep . . . .

I’m melting.  This is giving me so many feelings.
