Use It or Lose It!
*Hello fellow runners, yogis & golfers! Or fellow folks who want to get after it, maybe lost a step and don’t know where to start? Or parents with young babies, trying to get back into the groove. 40+ guys who are looking for a simple low impact, minimal time consuming approach that will provide results.
Why me? Why this blog, “runasyouare?” Because all of the above applies to me personally. I am 46 years old and certified to teach both vinyasa yoga and yoga for golf. But don’t. I’ve ran five full 26.2 marathons, my last in 2011. Since then my wife and I had our first child, a little guy named Lucas. No doubt, the most joyous experience of my life. Like any parent after the birth of their first, my ability to find “exercise time” diminished tremendously. I gained over twenty pounds and fell into more of a sedentary lifestyle. I didn’t like the way I looked or felt. I was tired all the time, feeling generally disheveled and lost my way. Every time I “tried” to take a step in the right direction, I fell short and was back to square one. I read through a journal app on my phone where I continuously wrote the same thing over and over again. I’m proud to say that I finally gained a foothold and have lost the twenty pounds. I invite you to follow me as I train. I’ll be writing about how I finally lost the weight and much, much more.
Topics I will cover:
Run Training
Yoga. The importance and value
Intro to Yoga for men over 40 and why 40 and why men?
Diet
Using pictures of yourself to motivate and show progress
Basic non drastic cleansing
Simple 15 minute workouts you can do at home
The power of a positive attitude
Finding inspiration
Visualization
Five minute meditation
...AND MORE.
Mission Statement:
I begin training for the NYC 2015 Marathon on July 1, 2015. The marathon is November 1. The purpose of this blog is to find personal inspiration and learn through others while documenting training, nutrition, and yogic/meditative principles. I will also analyze the struggles of “daily” life address and how to stay “health” conscience without allowing ourselves to “burn out,” a common problem we all face. Good intentions do not equal a healthy life. It requires a devotion to not JUST awareness, but a true “acknowledgement” of this awareness on a regular basis. I hope through this honest writing process to gain valuable knowledge of not only what makes me tick, but to also learn from others.
Nothing good comes easy. So, it’s time to roll up the sleeves and hit the pavement. No matter what, I look forward to the journey ahead of me. One step at a time. Remember…RUN AS YOU ARE!
