where did you get a tangerine?
"well, at the farmer's market, of course!"
nĂłl does look a bit startled at his question-- the wide dark eyes of a dog hearing a firework-- but she sounds placid nonetheless. onto the table a fishnet bag: and within, her plunders.
"there were tangerines--" she hands one to him, tart and aromatic with the leaves still on the stem. "-- and apples, and blueberries, and cherry tomatoes... mm, and a chocolate challah loaf, but that's for after."
then, eyeing mark a bit critically: "you ought to eat more fruit. i think you need the vitamins."

How to cast your runes for a reading.
The first thing that is important is storage, typically people (like myself) store their runes in a cloth bag. Glass and wood prevent energy from flowing in and out of the runes. And a bag allows you to pull one rune out at a time, allowing you to keep easier track of them.Â
Once youâve figured out storage there are just a few things youâll need, but not all are necessary.Â
- a casting cloth. These are typically a white cloth that is large enough for you to cast your runes onto. Itâs especially helpful if you do castings outside so that you donât lose anything.Â
-rune stones or cards. this is all really your preference, you can make your own set with stones and paint, or out of cardstock, or you can purchase them online. I personally have three sets, one that I inherited, one that I made by hand, and a third set made from lapis lazuli that I purchased online.Â
-a notebook and pen (optional) to keep a record of which runes you pulled and in what position. I find it helpful because then I can also write out their meanings next to them and get an overall feel for the casting.Â
-rune reference guide (also optional) sometimes itâs helpful to have a reference for their meanings if you havenât gotten them memorized or if you want to double-check.Â
After youâve gathered your supplies youâre ready to begin. I find itâs helpful to have a calm atmosphere. Push all other thoughts from your mind other than the question you have for the runes.Â
Begin to âshuffleâ the runes while focusing on your questions. This is where itâs also more beneficial when using actual stones, to have a bag instead of a box. Â
When you feel as if youâre ready to begin pulling stones, stop shuffling and open your bag or box. Here you can either gently toss your runes onto your cloth or other surface and choose the ones that are face up. Or you can reach into the bag or box while obscuring your vision and pull out however many runes you need for the castings. Â
Place the runes in order of when you touched them according to whatever formation that you used. My personal favorite is the Bifrost spread.
Casting is complete, donât forget to reunite your runes and store them safely.Â

If you share a similar interest in pagan/Asatru values feel free to hit me up. Iâd love to create more casts like this one. A Brief Description of the Runes: Wyrd
Rune Name: Wyrd (pronounced âweirdâ)
Image:Â A blank rune.Â
Literal Translation / Meaning:Â
In Norse mythology, âWyrdâ was the word for the Norns, three sistersâUrdhr, Verthani, and Skuldâwho represented past, present, and future. They were considered to be masters of the art of Divination (Peschel, 30). The rune itself is a relatively recent addition to Futhark. In fact, some practitioners donât even include it in their castings. Â
Symbolic Meaning / What It Means in a Casting:Â
The concept of Wyrd basically ties into that of Fate. If drawn in a casting, it typically means that the question / problem stated is in the hands of higher powers. Some casters also interpret this rune as sort of a âblank slate,â or new beginning. It has neither positive nor negative connotations. Lisa Peschel, in her book A Practical Guide to the Runes: Their Uses in Divination and Magick, mentions that one should think of Wyrd as a âvoid.â Though most of us consider voids to be empty, in this case, it can represent everything as well as nothing.Â
