After five days of searching I eventually found the rare Primula scotica (Scottish primrose) just 100 metres from a car park on Mainland, Orkney. This plant, which has flowers smaller than a daisy (Bellis perennis), is found in Orkney and on the northern coast of the Scottish mainland and nowhere else in the world. It flowers twice, first in late April and May then for the second time in late June, you can see the older flower stalks in some of the photographs.

As an early riser, I am often up before the sun around this time of year. However, it does mean that when we take the dogs out for their morning walk, we are treated to some wonderful Misty mornings and sunrises - and sometimes both!! . This was from yesterday. Sarah was in a hurry to get to work but I was able to snatch this shot shortly before falling off the wall I was perched on! 😂. It would have been great to watch the most rise for a bit but that will have to wait.
