Alright so hear you go!
when I started shipping it if I did: about march or aprilmy thoughts: Even not as a ship these two crack me up. The other Elric brothers is one of my favorite episodes and Russell is one of my favorite character. He’s smart, snarky, funny, and a bit morally grey but still very complex and is a great equal to ed in everything but stature (figuratively and literally). I see it as a bit like the Edling of 03 and really wish there was more of Russed out there. The two are very well matched and I feel like Russell could end up being both Ed’s voice of reason at times and the driving force behind his insanity at other times. Mostly the driving force behind his insanity.
What makes me happy about them: They play off of each other so well. I love a ship with banter. If two characters can banter back and forth for hours, then they make for a good ship. The two are both cut from the same cloth and yet can argue like no tomorrow. Plus, even not as a ship, I appreciate them hanging out because Ed needs more teenagers to hang out with. He has like, three teenage friends in 03 and four in brotherhood, and half of them had to worm their way into his heart. He needs someone his own age who can relate to him.
What makes me sad about them: They barely interact. Plus, russell probably thinks Ed is dead as he never came back to tell him he was ok, and he specifically told him to do that.
things done in fanfic that annoys me: I actually haven’t read many fanfics about this ship yet. there isn’t much that I can find and I haven’t had time for fics in general….so nothing yet. I guess in general oocness bothers me. I enjoy ships because of how the character interact and mesh, so when they stray really far from their characters it does ruin it a bit for me. Unless it’s a crack fic or something that isn’t supposed to be taken seriously. Still I won’t get on anyone’s case if I didn’t enjoy their fic. They wrote it for themselves first and foremost and the point of fanfiction is to have fun.
things I look for in fanfic: Honestly, I would love to see more alternate world Russell stuff. Or maybe stuff with Russell in brotherhood seeing as the light novels technically make him and fletcher canon to the storyline. But content wise, I am a sucker for both fluff and light arguing in my ships, so I would love to see more domestic squabbles and cuddly moments between the two. Also, very specific, but I want to see them steal the marque letters off of the sign of a restaurant or something that angered them.
Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: Honestly, I could see either one of them ending up with Winry or Ling, possibly even Rose for Russell, though I like the idea of Russell just helping Rose to take care of her kid and rebuild Liore with her rather than have a romantic relationship with her.
My happily ever after for them: Russell goes back with Ed to the real world, the two go on to become an amazing duo of professors working in at a prestigious university, discover an element together they name Amestrium or Alchemium and earn three nobel prizes together. Kids eventually learn about them in history books one day and get a based on a true story movie made about them. who is the big spoon/little spoon:…Take a wild guess. Although I do think Ed would want to be the big spoon and Russell would let him every so often.
what is their favorite non-sexual activity: I think they would love going to see movies. I don’t think Amestris had them and I think they’d really enjoy the novelty in our world. Also, I think they would actually enjoy arguing with each other, but intellectually arguing…until it eventually devolves into petty insults about height.
