RUSSIAN!
My mother wants us to go to Russia when this coronavirus thing finally ends. But HOW THE HELL will I be capable of visiting the country without learning its language?!
Here’s my story:
Many years ago, when my interest in languages began, I tried to enrol in a Japanese language course. But the only language institute I have in my town didn’t have a Japanese teacher. Because I was so obsessed with languages, I decided that if I couldn’t attend a Japanese class, I’d choose another language. And so I chose Italian. But because it had to be a class of at least two students, I asked my mother if she wanted to join me and she promptly said no. So then she said “If it were a Russian course... I would join you“. “But I don’t even like the Russian language!“. I was wrong. So wrong. And desperate. And that was what made me realise how wrong I was, because in the middle of my language obsession, I accepted my mother’s suggestion and we both enrolled in the Russian course. It was one of the best decisions I ever made.
Meanwhile, seeing that learning two difficult languages at the same time could be too demanding, I decided to replace Russian with French, which is definitely easier for a Portuguese person.
Now, I’m learning Japanese, French AND German. Why German? Because it’s the language of the degree course I’ve chosen. (There wasn’t Russian nor Japanese, and French would be too easy to learn academically).
Some months ago, I decided that I want to be a translator. And the languages I want to translate are Japanese, German and Russian. So, taking into consideration that Russian is a language that I want to use professionally, and that I will probably visit the country soon... why not replace French with Russian?
I’d say...
LET THE FUN BEGIN!

That’s actually one of my biggest achievements . Definitely, the longest Duolingo streak I’ve ever had!
