cold winter | lizzie/cal | drabble
they have never experienced winter as cold as this. in all the years that lizzie has lived in leland, they’ve experienced cold, but nothing like this. she could barely step outside without her nose instantly turning red and her breath being rushed out of her.
it was something that lizzie didn’t really care for, but she could handle it. cal on the other hand... he had a smidgen more of an issue with it.
lizzie bit her bottom lip to stop herself from letting out the laugh that was bubbling up inside her at the sight of him. cocooned in an array of of blankets, cal was barely visible from his spot on the couch. she sat down next to him, her fingers reaching out to skim through the hair that was sticking out.
“want some hot chocolate?”
she watched his face peek out from over the blanket. “you know what i want? i want to be in california. it’s almost eighty there today, eighty.”
“then let’s go.” her voice was steady, the expression on her face showing the seriousness of her words. “really. the company is opening a place in l.a., i can go help with the set up.”
“... what about our family?”
“i’m sure they can live without us for a couple months.” she smirked, tugging the blanket farther away from him, giving up when a sound of protest murmured in his throat. “i’ll be helping with work, you’ll get thawed, and we’ll be back just in time for it to start warming up again.”
lizzie watched his face carefully, studying the thought process which didn’t really take long. her brow raised as he looked over at her, a smile growing on his lips.
“really?”
she nodded, her own excitement growing at the thought of going back to where she grew up. “let’s do it.”
she reached down to pull at the blanket again, tugging harder than she did before. “open up, blanket hog, i’m cold.”
